Abstract: .alpha.-cyano esters are prepared by reacting an acyl halide with an aldehyde in a homogeneous mixture of substantially water-miscible aprotic solvent and an aqueous solution of water-soluble cyanide salt.
Abstract: Lactones of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or a CX.sub.3 group, and each X is a chlorine or bromine atom, are converted to the known cis-3-(2,2-dihalovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acids or lower alkyl esters, from which pyrethroid insecticides are obtained.
Abstract: Insecticidal compositions containing N-aminosulfenyl derivatives of carbofuran are stabilized against spontaneous decomposition by incorporating an epoxide compound therein.
Abstract: Compositions comprising, in combination, the insecticides endosulfan and 2-dihalovinyl-3,3-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylates exhibit synergistic insecticidal activity. The novel compositions are exemplified and their use for controlling insects is demonstrated.
Abstract: Compositions comprising, in combination, the insecticides methomyl and 2-dihalovinyl-3,3-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylates exhibit synergistic insecticidal activity. The novel compositions are exemplified and their use for controlling insects is demonstrated.
Abstract: Certain alpha-cyano esters are prepared by reacting an acyl halide with an aldehyde in a substantially water-immiscible aprotic solvent and an aqueous solution of water-soluble cyanide salt in the presence of an amphoteric surfactant rate-promoting agent.
Abstract: Optically active 1-Trichloromethyl-3-methyl-2-butenyl acetoacetate is prepared by resolving the racemic ester via a crystalline enamine derivative.

Abstract: 3-Methyl-2-butenyl 3,3-dimethyl-4-pentenoate, by-product in the condensation between 3-methyl-2-butene-1-ol and a lower alkyl orthoacetate, can be recycled into the condensation by alkoxylating it with a lower alkyl alcohol or orthoacetate in the presence of a basic ester exchange catalyst.
Abstract: Substituted [1,1'-biphenyl]-3-ylmethyl 3-(2,2-dihaloethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylates, as well as processes, uses, and intermediates thereto, are disclosed. The substituted [1,1'-biphenyl]-3-ylmethyl 3-(2,2-dihaloethenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylates control a broad spectrum of insects as well as acarids.
Abstract: Treatment of 3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acids and esters with aluminum bromide, the reaction product of aluminum and a bromoalkane, or HBr and the product of the reaction of HBr with aluminum or an aluminum salt produces the 3-(2,2-dibromovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane analogs.
Abstract: The pyrethroid insecticide, 3-phenoxybenzyl 3-(.beta.,.beta.-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate, is a potent repellent for a variety of insect pests, including acarids. This pyrethroid provides long-lasting protection when incorporated as the active component in repellent compositions and applied to areas from which it is desired to exclude such insect pests. The repellency extends to a broad range of species, including cockroaches, true bugs, flies, mites, aphids, and beetles, as well as mature and immature moths and butterflies.
Abstract: New insecticides, organic esters wherein the alcohol moiety is .alpha.-trifluoromethyl-3-phenoxybenzyl alcohol and the acid moiety is a pyrethroid carboxylic acid, are described and shown to control a broad spectrum of insects, including acarids.
