Patent number: 7467326Abstract: The fault-tolerant or self-correcting computer system is disclosed. The computer system that is provided with various sets of protections against failures that may be caused by space radiation, for example. Improved reliability of the system is achieved by scrubbing of the components on a regular schedule, rather than waiting for an error to be detected. Thus, errors that may go undetected for an extended period are not allowed to propagate and further damage the system. Three or more processors are provided to operate in parallel, and a controller is provided to receive signals from the processors and, using a voting logic, determines a majority signal value. In this manner, the controller can detect an error when a signal from one of the processors differs from the majority signal. The system is also provided with a scrubbing module for resynchronizing the processors after a predetermined milestone has been reached.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2003Date of Patent: December 16, 2008Assignee: Maxwell Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Robert Allen Hillman, Mark Steven Conrad

Patent number: 7431701Abstract: The invention disclosed herein provides a system and method for diagnosing lower urinary system conditions by receiving urodynamic data and subjective symptomatic impressions concerning a patient. The system and method then assigns weighted point values to the urodynamic data, for example, urethal pressure profiles due to sphincter contraction conditions such as urgency (2) and stress incontinence (4), and the subjective symptomatic impressions, quantifies norms for lower urinary system function, as a whole or in part, and quantifies recognized pathologies of lower urinary system conditions as degrees of departure from the norms. The system and method then determines a lower urinary system condition diagnosis of the patient, as a function of the degrees of departure from the norms, by invoking a set of rules to compare the weighted point values assigned and the quantified norms.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2001Date of Patent: October 7, 2008Inventor: Richard A. Patent number: 7425709Abstract: A modular ion source design relies on relatively short modular core ALS components, which can be coupled together to form a longer ALS while maintaining an acceptable tolerance of the anode-cathode gap. Many of the modular components may be designed to have common characteristics so as to allow use of these components in ion sources of varying sizes. A flexible anode can adapt to inconsistencies in the ion source body and module joints to hold a uniform anode-cathode gap along the length of the ALS. A clamp configuration fixes the cooling tube to the ion source body, thereby avoiding heat-introduced warping to the source body during manufacturing.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2004Date of Patent: September 16, 2008Assignee: Veeco Instruments, Inc.Inventors: Daniel E.
