  • Patent number: 7406041
Abstract: A system and method for late-dropping packets in a network switch. A network switch may include multiple input ports, multiple output ports, and a shared random access memory coupled to the input ports and output ports by data transport logic. Packets entering the switch may be subject to input thresholding, and may be assigned to a flow within a group. A portion of a packet subject to input thresholding may be accepted into the switch and assigned to a group and flow even if, at the time of arrival of the portion, there are not enough resources available to receive the remainder of the packet. This partial receipt of the packet is allowed because of the possibility of additional resources becoming available between the time of receipt of and resource allocation for the portion of the packet and receipt of subsequent portions of the packet.

  • Patent number: 7388946
Abstract: Methods and systems are described for verifying communications paths on a network. A test signal is forwarded between network nodes to evaluate quality of service in an IP telephony system. A test call is generated by a call initiator, communicated to one or more network devices, and forwarded from the one or more network devices to a call recipient according to address information associated with the test call. During the test call, a test signal is communicated between the call initiator, the call recipient, and the one or more network devices. The quality of service of the IP telephony network is evaluated according to characteristics associated with the test signal.

  • Patent number: 7384433
Abstract: A compressible and deformable layer is densified and laminated to a layer of a material that is relatively resistant to stretching. The densification and bonding take place in a single step. As used in fabrication of electrodes, for example, electrodes for double layer capacitors, a deformable and compressible active electrode film is manufactured from activated carbon, conductive carbon, and a polymer. The electrode film may be bonded directly to a collector. Alternatively, a collector may be coated with a wet adhesive layer. The adhesive layer is subsequently dried onto the foil. The dried adhesive and foil combination may be manufactured as a product for later sale or use, and may be stored as such on a storage roll or other storage device. The active electrode film is overlayed on the metal foil, and processed in a laminating device, such as a calender. Lamination both densifies the active electrode film and bonds the film to the metal foil.

  • Patent number: 7382736
Abstract: A method for selective transmission of through a switch according to a quality of service level includes providing one or more switches in a fibre channel fabric, particularly one or more fibre channel switches. The method includes assigning an initial score to the content of the one or more frames of data. The initial score may be adjusted by one or more alternative score components to determine one or more adjusted scores. The adjusted scores are compared. The method also provides for selecting frames having the highest adjusted scores and transmitting through the switches the frames having the highest adjusted scores.

  • Patent number: 7382776
Abstract: Routing a data packet includes receiving at a switch a data packet from a storage client. The data packet is associated with a destination identifier identifying a virtual target, where the virtual target is accessible by the storage client. A storage resource identifier corresponding to the destination identifier is determined according to a forwarding table at the switch. The data packet is routed according to the storage resource identifier.

  • Patent number: 7367759
Abstract: A surface relief grating (SRG) image machining process and/or product. For the SRG image machining process a material and a cutting tool are provided. The material is contacted by the cutting tool to a predetermined depth. The cutting tool is rotated to cut the material at a predetermined rotational speed. The cutting tool is moved to cut the material at a predetermined travel speed. A SRG image effect is produced in the material through the contacting, rotating, and moving steps. A product with a SRG image effect has a surface with rotational cuts effected therein to create the SRG image effect. The SRG image has an effect based on a rotational speed of a cutting tool effecting the cuts, a travel speed of a cutting tool effecting the cuts, and a depth of the cuts. A light source can be used to emit light on the surface of the product.

  • Patent number: 7345454
Abstract: An energy storage system is described for use in, for example, electronics systems such as a bank of computers. The disclosed energy storage systems allows the use of an efficient energy source, such as ultracapacitors, while providing a desired voltage level for an extended period of time. One embodiment of the energy storage system provides power to a load. The system includes a power module including at least one ultracapacitor adapted to store and discharge energy. The power module provides an output voltage as the ultracapacitor discharges energy. The system also includes a voltage regulator for boosting the output voltage of the power module. The voltage regulator may include a voltage converter. The voltage converter may be adapted to boost the output voltage when the output voltage falls below a predetermined threshold. The voltage converter may include a plurality of interleaving inductor circuits, each of the circuits including a switch and an inductor.

  • Patent number: 7342236
Abstract: An ion source is cooled using a cooling plate that is separate and independent of the anode. The cooling plate forms a coolant cavity through which a fluid coolant (e.g., liquid or gas) can flow to cool the anode. In such configurations, the magnet may be thermally protected by the cooling plate. A thermally conductive material in a thermal transfer interface component can enhance the cooling capacity of the cooling plate. Furthermore, the separation of the cooling plate and the anode allows the cooling plate and cooling lines to be electrically isolated from the high voltage of the anode (e.g., using a thermally conductive, electrically insulating material). Combining these structures into an anode subassembly and magnet subassembly can also facilitate assembly and maintenance of the ion source, particularly as the anode is free of coolant lines, which can present some difficulty during maintenance.

  • Patent number: 7339934
Abstract: A method for performing alternate and therefore least cost routing in distributed H.323 Voice over IP (VoIP) networks is provided. With this method, the VoIP network consists of a hierarchy of gatekeeper (GK) functions to provide alternate routing, network element redundancy, and scalability. The alternate routing function is performed by a directory gatekeeper with route selection advancing from a first route to a second route by either of two conditions: (1) there are no resources available to terminate the call in the first zone; and (2) a lack of response to the directory GK request for such resources.
