Abstract: Dentifrice containing a liquid vehicle containing water, a gelling agent, a dual source of at least about 500 ppm of fluorine comprising sodium fluoride and sodium monofluorophosphate, a precipitated, amorphous silica gel having an average particle size of 1 to 30 microns and(a) a surface area of 1 to 600 m.sup.2 /g,(b) a pore volume of 0.05 to 0.5 cm.sup.3 /g,(c) a product of surface area (in m.sup.2 /g).times.pore volume (in cm.sup.3 /g) less than or equal to 240,(d) a calculated pore diameter of 1.5 to 2.5 nm, and(e) a water content of less than 25% by weight, a source of calcium corresponding to up to about 0.004% by weight (40 ppm) of calcium ion and about 0.25%-5% by weight of an alkali metal phytate. The alkali metal phytate improves retention of total soluble fluorine.

Abstract: A stable antiplaque dentifrice with improved foaming containing an antiplaque quaternary ammonium compound, a betaine surfactant to improve foaming without inactivating the antibacterial and antiplaque activity of the quaternary ammonium compound, a humectant selected from the group consisting of polyethylene glycol, sorbitol and mixtures thereof, and a nonionic gelling agent, preferably hydroxyethylcellulose, in an aqueous vehicle containing a dental abrasive. A fluorine-containing compound such as monofluorophosphate is an optionally preferred ingredient.

Abstract: A stable shaving cream gel having superior foaming and after-feel characteristics containing as the essential ingredient a water soluble gel which is the interpolymer reaction product of a quaternized cationic polymer selected from the group consisting of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride-co-acrylamide) and a quaternary ammonium cellulose ether polymer, with an anionic polymer selected from the group consisting of a polysulfonic acid and alginic acid.

Abstract: A fabric softening particulate synthetic organic detergent composition is made by mixing together a minor proportion of a finely divided bentonite powder and a major proportion of larger sized built synthetic organic detergent composition particles, spraying onto the surfaces of the moving mixture a dilute sodium silicate solution so that a small proportion of sodium silicate and a larger proportion of moisture are deposited on the mixing materials, and continuing mixing of the materials after cessation of the spraying of the silicate solution onto them.

Abstract: There is disclosed a dentifrice formulation which is stable in the sense of not producing gassing as evidenced by visually discernable distention over a period of 168 days at 43.degree. C. in an unlined aluminium tube.The formulation comprises an aqueous dentally acceptable oral vehicle at least 27.5% by weight of the dentifrice comprising water and dispersed in the said oral vehicle from 10 to 40% by weight of the dentifrice of a neutral siliceous polishing agent having a stirred slurry pH (as herein defined) in the range from 6.5 to 7.5, and a stabilizing amount of monofluorophosphate ion, the dentifrice having a stirred slurry pH in the range from 5.5 to 8.

Abstract: A novel stable anhydrous paste or cream composition having superior ultradry characteristics when applied to the skin comprising an antiperspirant or deodorant agent and an oil absorbent material homogeneously dispersed in a vehicle comprising about 25-55% of a volatile silicone and a clay suspending/thickening agent in the form of a gel, preferably a bentonite gel. Additionally preferable ingredients are stability agents to prevent syneresis (oil separation) such as the fatty acid metal salts, more specifically zinc, aluminum, calcium, magnesium, and lithium stearates. Additional thickeners, binders, suspending agents, emollients and nonionic emulsifiers may be added as desired to further enhance the aesthetics of the cream product. The resultant dry-feel cream products spread easily, are not wet, oily or sticky, and vanish almost immediately on rub-in when applied to the skin.

Abstract: A device for the selection, metering and delivery of treatment liquids for industrial laundry washers comprising a plurality of pumping units without positive displacement of pumping members. The pumping action is performed by a correlated combination of applications of pressure and vacuum on columns of the liquid that must be pumped. The delivery or pumping rate may be adjusted by setting on each pumping unit the quantity of the displaced material by sensing the displaced volume.

Abstract: A fabric softening and fluffing particulate detergent composition comprises a detersive proportion of an anionic synthetic organic detergent, such as sodium linear higher alkylbenzene sulfonate, a building proportion of a builder for the detergent, such as sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium carbonate and/or sodium silicate, a fabric softening proportion of bentonite, and a softening and fluffing proportion of a magnesium salt, which is at least slightly water soluble, such as magnesium sulfate. The basic detergent composition, containing the detergent and builder, sometimes with inert filler and preferably with desirable adjuvants, is preferably in the form of spray dried beads, and the bentonite and magnesium salt are preferably agglomerated together to particles of about the same size as the spray dried beads, and are mixed with the spray dried beads.The invention also relates to the mentioned agglomerate and to processes for making the detergent composition and the agglomerate.

Abstract: An activated peroxy compound bleaching composition includes a peroxy bleaching compound, such as sodium perborate, and an activator for such bleaching compound, which improves the bleaching effect thereof, which activator is a sulfonyl halide, such as an alkoxybenzenesulfonyl halide, preferably an ortho- or para-substituted methoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride, such as p-methoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride. Preferably, the peroxy bleaching compound and activator are included in a synthetic organic detergent composition such as one based on anionic and/or nonionic normally solid detergent(s), preferably also with builder salt(s) present, and bleaching is effected during the washing of fabrics or articles made thereof, in wash waters of various temperatures, even in water which is only warm. The bleaching compound and activator may also be included in pre-soak compositions.

Abstract: A deodorant body cleansing composition in the form of a liquid or solid opaque bar, comprising a detergent and a specific carbohydrate capable of reducing the odor-causing bacterial population on the body (skin and/or hair), without the use of antimicrobials. The essential deodorant agent which is a group of carbohydrates specifically effective against the odor-causing bacteria on the skin and/or hair, are mannose, glucose, and oligomers thereof, i.e. dimers, trimers, and tetramers.

Abstract: A visually clear pigmented dentifrice in which a color-intensive conjugated pigment, such as a phthalocyanine is dispersed homogeneously throughout the clear dentifrice. The dentifrice is characterized as retaining color without substantial fading and with retention of clarity.

Abstract: An oral composition for treating gingivitis and periodontitis comprising an oral vehicle and an effective amount of the water insoluble antigingivitis agent, imidazolyl-1-1-(p-chlorophenoxy) 3-3-dimethyl 2-butanone solubilized in a nonionic compound containing a mixture of hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups of sufficient length to effect solubilization in an aqueous vehicle, in the weight ratio of 1:1 to 25:1 and preferably 3:1 to 25:1 solubilizer:imidazoyl compound, said agent being selectively effective against the gram negative anaerobic micro-organisms associated with periodontitis.

Abstract: A process is described for retarding or preventing the setting of a miscible and pumpable crutcher slurry intended to be spray dried to base beads for subsequent conversion to a built synthetic organic nonionic detergent composition. The slurry, which contains described proportions of water softening zeolite, water soluble salt(s), including sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate, and a swelling bentonite, sometimes sets up in the crutcher in which it is being prepared. Often such solidification is spontaneous after the bentonite has been added to the crutcher, and sometimes occurs only minutes after such addition. When 0.5 to 5% of magnesium sulfate is incorporated in the crutcher mix such undesirable setting of the mix is delayed or prevented entirely, and crutching times of at least one hour (and sometimes appreciably longer) are attained, after which the crutcher slurry is still miscible, and is pumpable to a spray drying tower.

Abstract: A disposable adult diaper comprising a waterproof backing sheet, an absorbent pad assembly, and a non-woven hydrophobic top sheet. The top sheet overlies the absorbent pad assembly and is folded about the backing sheet with end margins overlapping. On the overlapped portion of the top sheet there is provided pressure-sensitive adhesive for removably attaching the diaper to an undergarment of the wearer. The diaper is folded into a box-pleated configuration for better fluid tightness and fluid capacity. The absorbent pad assembly may be made with or without top or bottom wadding sheets and the most preferable embodiment utilizes a bottom wadding sheet integrated to the wood fluff of the absorbent pad by a water spray.

Abstract: Dish-washing composition containing alkali polyphosphates and silicates, surfactants, peroxized oxygerating agents, enzymes and sufficient alkali for providing a washing bath of pH 11.5.
