Abstract: Astringent dentifrice containing a water-soluble zinc salt and a hydrous silica gel polishing agent compatible and substantially non-reactive with the zinc salt.

Abstract: The improvement in a light duty detergent composition containing anionic sulfonated surfactants or mixtures of anionic sulfonate and nonionic surfactants is disclosed which comprises the inclusion therein of an effective amount of a low molecular weight organic diamine diacid salt selected from the range wherein the mole ratio of mono-anionic detergent to organic diamine diacid salt is from 0.8:1 to 9:1 and sufficient to improve soft water foaming and degreasing properties. These compositions are especially suitable for dishwashing.

Abstract: Liquid detergent compositions having good foaming and grease emulsification properties as well as reduced skin irritation effects which consist essentially of, by weight, 8% to 30% of a water-soluble C.sub.10 --C.sub.16 alkyl ether ethylenoxy sulfate salt containing an average of 5 to 12 moles of ethylene oxide in the molecule, a supplementary, water-soluble, non-soap, anionic detergent having in its molecular structure a C.sub.8 --C.sub.22 alkyl alkenyl or acyl group, and a sulfonate, sulfate or carboxylate group, the weight ratio of said alkyl ether sulfate to said supplementary detergent being in the range of 1:1 to 20:1; 1% to 8% of a zwitterionic detergent having the structural formula ##STR1## wherein R is a C.sub.8 --C.sub.18 alkyl or C.sub.8 --C.sub.18 alkanamido C.sub.2 --C.sub.3 alkyl group, R.sub.1 is a C.sub.1 --C.sub.3 alkyl, R.sub.2 is a C.sub.1 --C.sub.4 alkylene or hydroxyalkylene and X is S:O or C; 1% to 8% of an N--C.sub.8 --C.sub.18 alkonoic acid C.sub.2 --C.sub.

Abstract: An elastic detergent product which may also be used by children as a toy or plaything while taking a bath, includes a mixture of anionic and amphoteric synthetic organic detergents, gelatin and water. The products are substantially form-retaining and although they wear away during use, substantially retain their initial forms and elasticities for major proportions of their useful lives. They are easily manufactured and during the manufacturing process are moldable to finely figured and detailed shapes. Because of their elasticity they are resistant to breakage during shipping and use and because of their contents of both synthetic anionic and amphoteric organic detergents they exhibit less surface tackiness than other elastic detergent products or bars in which similar proportions of gelatin and water are present.

Abstract: Dentifrice formulations having improved stability against discoloration upon aging comprising an unsaturated aldehyde flavoring agent selected from the group consisting of cinnamic aldehyde and citral and an effective amount in excess of 5% and preferably about 10-45% of a color stabilizer selected from the group consisting of propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol and mixtures thereof, in a dental vehicle free of oxidizing agents such as peracids and salts thereof and maintained at a pH below 8.5 and preferably acid to slightly alkaline (about 5-7.5).

Abstract: A process for neutralizing an organic sulfuric or sulfonic detergent acid, e.g., lauryl sulfuric acid or mixture of such acids, in liquid state, with a liquid solution or slurry of neutralizing agent of a low moisture content is conducted in a wiped film neutralizing reactor wherein a film of the organic acid(s) and neutralizing agent(s) is formed on an internal wall of the reactor, which wall (with the film) is continuously wiped during the neutralization reaction by a wall scraper or a plurality of scrapers which also agitate the reactants, whereby there is produced a pumpable aqueous slurry, having a high concentration of the detergent salt solids which is above a gel region which prevents the concentration of such detergents made by other processes that produce lower detergent concentrations. During the reaction, which is usually preferably conducted under vacuum, the heat generated is removed, usually by evaporation of water, so as to maintain a desirable temperature for the neutralization.

Abstract: An apparatus for filling dispenser containers with a liquid or pasty product, having a filling station with a filling tube, which is inserted into the dispensing container by movement of the filling tube with respect to the dispensing container and a prechamber containing a filling product connected to the filling tube, characterized in that a telescopic tube coaxially reciprocatable with respect to the filling tube is provided in the latter, the upper end of tube being connected to the prechamber and being fixed to a piston which is sealingly guided with respect to filling tube, the lower end of which is movable through an opening in a bottom plate closing the lower end of the filling tube and that a restoring spring is provided between the piston and the bottom plate whose spring tension is less than the sum of the filling pressure of the filling product and frictional forces of telescopic tube.

Abstract: A detergent laundry bar, based on sodium higher fatty alcohol sulfate, which is resistant to breakage on handling, includes sodium higher fatty alcohol sulfate in which the higher fatty alcohol is of about 10 to 18 carbon atoms, water soluble builder salt for the sodium higher fatty alcohol sulfate, water insoluble particulate material which may also possess building properties, water and a higher fatty acid of 10 to 18 carbon atoms, with the proportion of higher fatty acid being such as to aid in overcoming the tendency of such laundry bars to crack, chip and break on handling. The water soluble builder salt will normally include an inorganic phosphate builder salt, such as sodium tripolyphosphate, and the water insoluble particulate material will normally include calcium carbonate and/or bentonite, and/or talc, usually being constituted of two or three of such materials. Preferably a higher fatty acid alkanolamide and a higher fatty alcohol will also be present.

Abstract: A particulate laundry detergent composition is provided comprising:(a) from about 0.1 to about 50%, by weight, of a perfume-containing carrier comprising (i) discrete particles containing at least 75%, by weight, of a clay mineral other than talc and/or a zeolite, and less than about 5%, by weight, of surface active detergent compounds; and (ii) a perfume, said perfume being adsorbed and/or absorbed on said particles; and(b) from about 2 to about 50%, by weight, additional to any detergent compound in said particles, of one or more surface active detergent compounds selected from the group consisting of anionic, nonionic, cationic, ampholytic and zwitterionic detergent compounds. The balance of the composition is comprised of water and optionally builder and filler salts.

Abstract: An aqueous oral preparation is provided which contains a peroxygen compound and a flavor which is stable in such system. The peroxygen compound is preferably hydrogen peroxide. The preparation may be in the form of a mouthrinse, a paste or a gel. Many optional ingredients may be included such as ethanol, polyhydric alcohols, non-ionic surfactants, fluorides, color, preservative, sweetener, and the like. A preferred rinse includes ethanol, sorbitol, a Pluronic surfactant, a Tween surfactant, sodium saccharin, and color. A typically preferred gel is similar to the rinse but contains about 20 wt. % of a thickener.

Abstract: A fabric softening composition is provided for use in admixture with a particulate detergent composition or as a softening additive to the wash solution separate from the detergent composition, such softening composition comprising: (i) discrete softening particles containing at least about 75%, by weight, of a smectite-type clay, and less than about 5%, by weight, of detergent surface active agents selected from the group consisting of anionic, nonionic, ampholytic and zwitterionic detergents; and (ii) a cationic compound selected from the group consisting of primary, secondary and tertiary amines and their water-soluble salts, diamine and diammonium salts, and quaternary ammonium, phosphonium and sulfonium compounds, substantially all of said cationic compound being adsorbed upon the surface of said particles.

Abstract: A novel stable pituitous bicarbonate suspension in an aqueous/alcoholic medium having a high alcohol content and a low water content, with substantially no bicarbonate in solution, containing hydroxyethyl cellulose as the essential suspending agent, said alcohol content exceeding the upper solubility of hydroxyethyl cellulose in said alcohol and the water content being sufficient to prevent precipitation of said suspending agent and at least 5% by weight; having utility in deodorant products such as roll-ons, pumps and on substrates such as deodorant pads. The concentration of sodium or potassium bicarbonate is preferably high, about 10%, however 1-20% may be used. The alcohol utilized herein is monohydric such as ethanol, methyl or isopropyl alcohol, however, a polyhydric alcohol such as propylene glycol, glycerine and/or polypropylene glycols may be partially substituted for the monohydric alcohol.

Abstract: A stabilized enzyme-containing liquid detergent composition is provided comprising a surfactant, calcium ion, and an enzyme which is stabilized with one or more salts of specified dicarboxylic acids. Soap is a preferred component of the detergent composition.

Abstract: Oral composition having a mellow flavor characteristic due to the presence of a .Iadd.sialagogue of a .Iaddend.flavoring oil and a 5'-ribonucleotide as a flavor modifying agent.Iadd., further containing a sweetening agent characterized by early appearance of sweetness and early extinction of sweetness. Sucrose, lactose, maltose, glycerine, sorbitol, perillartine, xylitol, sodium cyclamate and sodium saccharine are examples of such sweetening agents.Iaddend.. Early high or flash foaming is also promoted. Typical agents are disodium 5'-guanylate and disodium 5'-inosinate.
