  • Patent number: 4127842
Abstract: To compensate the Doppler flow measurement for the angle of the ultrasonic beam relative to the flowing medium, the ultrasonic applicator includes a mechanical electrical angular position sensor for generating a signal as the applicator is shifted from a perpendicular relationship to the flow axis to a desired oblique angular relationship. As a particularly preferred embodiment, a rotary member is held relative to the flow axis as the applicator axis is rotated, placing a strain gauge under a proportional tension to unbalance a bridge circuit. A further development provides a sensor output as a function of the cosine of the angle of interest so that the bridge output is in the form required to compensate the flow measurement signal without a prior trigonometric operation thereon.

  • Patent number: 4127115
Abstract: Respiratory flow rate is measured independent of gas type by establishing a supplementary flow component of the respiratory medium via a supplementary sensor modeled according to flow rate ratio after the primary respiratory flow sensor such that the sensors are subject to respective corresponding errors in dependence on the same parameter of any of the respective respiratory media. The respiratory flow signal is continuously corrected in dependency on the currently existent composition of the respiratory medium by forming the quotient of the respiratory flow signal and the supplementary signal from the supplementary sensor. In a second disclosed embodiment, the supplementary flow component is coupled to the primary respiratory flow sensor so that similitude is automatically provided. Either embodiment may be utilized to provide an inverse of the supplementary signal as a measure of a composition-dependent parameter such as viscosity, density or temperature coefficient of the respiratory gases.

  • Patent number: 4126881
Abstract: A semiconductor memory has storage cells composed of MOS selector transistors operated by a drive line and storage capacitors connected to selector transistors. The selector transistors are constructed in accordance with the V-MOS technique. A semiconductor substrate is highly doped with atoms of one conductivity type and carries a buried layer highly doped with atoms of the opposite conductivity type. An epitaxial layer, weakly doped with atoms of the one conductivity type is carried over the buried layer and the semiconductor substrate. A second layer, highly doped with atoms of the opposite conductivity type, is carried over the epitaxial layer above the buried layer. A V-shaped groove divides the second layer into two sub-portions in the region of the storage cells and extends into the buried layer and a conductor path is disposed in the groove.

  • Patent number: 4126784
Abstract: In the illustrated embodiments the primary voltage of the high voltage transformer is supplied via a voltage divider so that the secondary voltage does not exceed a desired value during heating of the X-ray tube filament. As the secondary load increases with a consequent tendency to reduce secondary voltage, an element or elements of the voltage divider are switched so as to increase the voltage supplied to the primary winding of the high voltage transformer. In a monopulse circuit, diode means are associated with the voltage divider which are poled such that the voltage divider controls the positive polarity secondary half wave voltage. In one embodiment, a single switch may simultaneously bypass the series resistance of the voltage divider and remove a parallel resistance with respect to one polarity of primary current.

  • Patent number: 4125233
Abstract: A non-rigid aerodynamic balloon having integral stabilizing tail fins is provided. The balloon is most useful in tethered applications, such as for advertising. The balloon is formed from a plurality of flexible skin-like gores which are joined together with a plurality of longitudinal seams running lengthwise of a main body of the balloon. Each gore is a continuous piece of flexible skin-like material which forms a portion of the body and a side wall of one of the stabilizing fins. The longitudinal seams join adjacent gores along outer edges of the stabilizing fins so that seams are not required to join the stabilizing fins to the main body of the balloon.
