  • Patent number: 4364640
Abstract: A device for capturing, guiding and concentrating light for coupling out of an outlet window comprising at least one flexible foil of synthetic material containing a fluorescent substance for converting ambient light into fluorescent light and means for forming an outlet for the fluorescent light. The device can include a second and/or a third flexible foil so that light going to the outlet windows passes through the second and third foils. In one embodiment, a pair of foils are arranged behind a liquid crystal display and each foil contains fluorescent material having a polarization plane extending at right angles to each other, an optical active layer is placed between the two foils which will rotate the direction of polarization and the means for forming an outlet is disposed on the outer surface of the one foil opposite from the liquid crystal cell so that a viewer sees the light modulated by the cell.

  • Patent number: 4364270
Abstract: A device for pneumatically scanning the level of liquid in a container, such as small housings for electronic components which are to be filled with casting resin, has a pneumatic scanning nozzle disposed above the component housing for directing an extremely low pressure air stream at the liquid surface in the housing. The nozzle has a branch conduit leading to a piston movable to actuate a proximity switch for providing a signal to cease the supply of liquid to the container. When a pre-determined liquid level is attained in the container, the back pressure through the conduit moves the piston against a spring bias to actuate the proximity switch. The liquid level is thus determined in a contact-free manner so that the measuring system remains untouched by the casting resin.

  • Patent number: 4364616
Abstract: A building directory display system is disclosed having a light source positioned within a housing and a darkened glass door on the front of the housing. Directly behind the glass door, a plurality of panels are provided on which name strips are positioned. The panel also has a diffuser panel which diffuses light from the light source which then passes through the name strips having a black coating selectively etched to permit light passage therethrough. In order to prevent light from shining through cracks between the panels, each panel has side frames which overlap with one another and which, in combination with a panel retaining frame, permit simple removal of the panels for servicing.

  • Patent number: 4363324
Abstract: In the case of current stimulation apparatus, in particular, protection installations are necessary which, in every instance, disconnect the patient from the operating voltage of the apparatus when maximally permissible patient currents are exceeded. For this purpose, for example, safety fuses or also electromagnetic disconnection devices (relays) are known. In accordance with the disclosure, a safety circuit for disconnecting the patient output from the operating voltage is employed as the protection installation which also responds when the patient current deviates from a preselected desired value adjusted on an intensity adjustment member. For this purpose, an output stage as current waveform generator for constant-current stimulation current is connected with the safety circuit.

  • Patent number: 4363739
Abstract: The invention provides a novel aluminum hydroxide-based spray-on insulating material which is workable by blowing to form a layer on the ceiling or wall of a building effective for heat and sound insulation. The inventive material is prepared by first blending an organic fibrous material, e.g. reclaimed pulp from scrapped papers, with a gel-like amorphous aluminum hydroxide sludge, available in large quantities as a waste in the anodization treatment of aluminum articles, with adjustment of the pH of the mixture to weakly acidic whereby the organic fibers are entrammeled by the coagulated aluminum hydroxide and then a powdery aluminum hydroxide, which is prepared by drying and pulverizing the gel-like aluminum hydroxide sludge, is admixed with the mixture followed by drying and disintegrating the blend into fluffs. The spray-on insulating material is worked by blowing as such or may be blown together with an adhesive so as to increase the mechanical stability of the insulating layer.

  • Patent number: 4362933
Abstract: In an examplary embodiment wherein the x-ray image, converted into an electron image, is intensified through acceleration in the electrical field, in at least two stages which are inter-coupled via an intermediate screen, such screen contains, as significant elements, a cathodoluminescent layer and a photocathode layer which is optically in contact with the latter. Of these, the one is disposed on the one side and the other is disposed on the opposite side of a satisfactorily stable carrier plate which allows the light of the cathodoluminescent layer to pass through. In the case of this intermediate screen it is difficult to keep the surface sufficiently clean for the purpose of applying the photocathode layer. To this end, the disclosure provides that the surface of the carrier plate be coated with a coating which is resistant to the photocathode layer, which coating, for a photocathode layer of cesium antimony, can be comprised of cesium iodide and be 5 and 10 .mu.m thick.

  • Patent number: 4363046
Abstract: A transducer head assembly for a video tape machine capable of supporting the magnetic head so that it can be moved transversely to the tape so that the head will be aligned with the magnetic signal track for different speeds and direction of movement of the tape as well as for situations when the tape is stopped. A pair of flexible supporting means are generally triangular shaped and have their rear edges attached to opposite sides of a supporting block and have their free ends connected to a connecting bar upon which the magnetic head is mounted. A coil is attached to the connecting bar and moves between one or more magnets such that when electrical signals are applied to the coil the connecting bar is moved to align the magnetic head. The spacing between the two flexible members is substantial so that a pantograph is formed which assures that the magnetic head moves substantially parallel to the surface of the tape and does not move in an arc.
