Abstract: A system and method is provided for distracting opposite surfaces from the interior of a bone, such as a vertebral body. A working channel cannula provides a working channel through which an inserter and an injection cannula can simultaneously pass. The inserter transports a plurality of wafers into the interior of the bone to form a load-bearing stack bearing against the opposite surfaces. The injection cannula is used to inject a fluent material into and/or around the stack. In certain embodiments, the fluent material is a load-bearing or hardenable material, such as bone cement. In other embodiments, the fluent material can be a BMP, HAP, or other osteo-inductive, osteo-conductive, or pharmaceutical compositions. A syringe containing the fluent material is engaged to the injection cannula and is operable to inject the fluent material into the vertebral body under controlled pressure.

An agitation station is located along the conveyor belt, and includes an agitator secured to one end of an arm, the arm being pivotally secured to the frame supporting the conveyor belt.
Abstract: The present invention provides a complete virtual multi-vendor EMS based network that behaves identical to the network elements of the EMS clients. A virtual network simulator is built that has the ability to faithfully simulate the behavior of any vendor's EMS to represent the data objects required by the TMF 814 specification. This allows automatic provisioning and maintenance of the Operation Support Systems to fully test new functionality against complete EMS based network without depending upon the availability of any physical equipment, thereby providing much quicker, low cost, extremely life-like testing environment.

Abstract: The present invention is aimed at providing an image reading device that suppresses generation of a so-called edge shadow while suppressing uneven intensity of light emitted onto an original. A color copy machine 1 includes an illumination portion 347a that irradiates an original G with light. The illumination portion 347a includes a plurality of LEDs 501 disposed at predetermined intervals in a main scanning direction, an elliptical diffuser plate 507 that is disposed between the plurality of LEDs 501 and the original G and causes the light emitted by the plurality of LEDs 501 to diffuse, and a second reflection mirror 541B that reflects light, which is a portion of the light diffused by the elliptical diffuser plate 507 and not directly irradiated onto the original G, so as to irradiate the light onto the original G.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include a container holder for a bicycle that has a mounting member and a mating member. The mounting member facilitates mounting the container holder to a portion of the bicycle. The mating member is operatively coupled to the mounting member and is interdependently configured to inter-engage a corresponding reciprocal mating member of a container upon receipt of the container by the container holder to facilitate retention of the container by the container holder.
Abstract: A swipe card and a method and system of monitoring usage of a swipe card. The swipe card includes a substrate forming a body of the card, a magnetic strip for storing accessible account information and a swipe counter. The swipe counter detecting and accessibly storing a count of the number of times the magnetic strip is swiped. The swipe counter can include a piezo-electric element. The swipe counter can include a capacitive element for storing pulses of energy generated when the magnetic strip is swiped. The swipe counter can include a micro-electromechanical system for recording select physical movement of the card. The swipe card can further include a swipe analyzer for detecting and accessibly storing descriptive information associated with at least one transaction associated with each swipe, wherein the swipe analyzer is operatively coupled to the magnetic strip.
Abstract: Described is a process for the production of a multi-layer body having a volume hologram with at least two different items of image information, wherein a photosensitive layer (46) of the multi-layer body is directly or with the interposition of a transparent optical medium (44s, 45) brought into contact with the front side of a master (44), in which interlaced regions with different asymmetrical surface structures or kinoform structures are shaped, which embody the at least two different items of image information. The photosensitive layer (46) and the master are exposed with a coherent light beam (47) whereby a volume hologram is formed in the photosensitive layer (46). Also described are a master for the production of the multi-layer body and a security element having said multi-layer body.

Abstract: A method for producing an image with an increased resolution from a plurality of aliased ophthalmic images having an original resolution is described. The method comprises the steps of—providing an imaging system capable of acquiring said aliased ophthalmic images,—acquiring said aliased ophthalmic images by the imaging system, thereby generating non-integer pixel displacements between said images by using voluntary or involuntary eye movements,—determining the displacements between said images, and—producing an image with an increased resolution in an overlapping area of said aliased ophthalmic images compared to the original resolution of said images, based on said images and said displacements, using a super-resolution algorithm.
