  • Patent number: 8175223
Abstract: A problem detection and repair system receives a trouble indication indicating a problem with a network. The trouble indication may be the result of automated monitoring of the network, or a user of communication services contacting an operator of the network to report trouble. Communication services may include telephone service, television service, Internet service, and other services delivered via a network. The trouble indication may be paired with the user's account, and one or more status determinations may be made prior to handing the user to a support person. Based on the results of the status determinations, problems may be detected, and repairs automatically attempted. If needed, the user may be forwarded to a support person along with the results of the status determinations and any attempted repairs.

  • Patent number: 8172182
Abstract: Apparatus and methods described herein provide for a spillover tank to extend the fuel capacity of the main wing tank of an aircraft. The spillover tank is located in the wing of the aircraft adjacent to the main wing tank. At least one aperture exists through the shared barrier between the main wing tank and the spillover tank that allows fuel to flow passively between the tanks. A scavenge pump mechanism driven by motive flow from the main fuel pumps continuously pumps fuel from the spillover tank into the main wing tank.

  • Patent number: 8171031
Abstract: Technologies are described herein for providing a more efficient approach to ranking search results. An illustrative technology reduces an amount of ranking data analyzed at query time. In the technology, a term is selected, at index time, from a master index. The term corresponds to a number of documents greater than a threshold. A set of documents that includes the term is selected based on the master index. A rank is determined for each document in the set of documents that contains the term. Each document in the set of documents that contains the term is assigned to a top document list or a bottom document list based on the rank. Predefined values of at least part of the rank are stored in the top document list for documents in the top document list and are not stored in the bottom document list for documents in the bottom document list.

  • Patent number: 8166200
Abstract: A router module receives a client request. In response to receiving the request, the router module obtains the network address of a server module to fulfill the request. The router module then determines whether it is executing on the same physical computer as the server module. If the router module determines that the server module is not executing on the same physical computer, the router module forwards the client request to the server module utilizing a standard network transport. If the router module determines that the server module is executing on the same computer, the router module forwards the client request to the server module using an optimized transport, such as an optimized local-machine-only transport.

  • Patent number: 8166351
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for filtering redundant fault events from an event stream generated by devices on a network based on a statistical correlation between fault events are provided. Event history data is collected from the fault events generated by devices on the network over a period of time. Statistical correlations are computed between each distinct pair of fault events in the event history data. Based on the statistical correlations, a list of redundant fault events and associated significant events is identified. The list of redundant events and associated significant events is utilized to filter the redundant fault events from the event stream generated by the devices on the network.

  • Patent number: 8165226
Abstract: Techniques for detecting faults in a digital video stream include frame freeze detection that can alert an operator of frame freeze in a digital video stream. According to various embodiments, a counter or other code generator is used to place a code into each frame of a video stream. The code counts sequentially, or otherwise changes in a predetermined manner, from one frame to the next and is embedded into one or more pixels of each frame. Verification at the destination, or display, of the changing code within the frames of the video stream can confirm that the video stream is not in a frame freeze fault condition prior to display. If a fault condition is detected by the code verification process, an operator can be made aware of the fault.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies described herein provide for securing a connector shell to a circuit board using a separate connector hat with elongated mounting posts. According to one aspect of the disclosure provided herein, a connector hat includes a one-piece body with a top surface and a pair of mounting posts. The mounting posts extend downwards from opposing side edges of the top surface. The posts are of sufficient length to extend beyond a bottom surface of a connector shell to which the connector hat is configured to attach, and through a bottom surface of an associated circuit board. The two-piece connector assembly design utilizing the connector hat with mounting posts allows the mounting posts to be manufactured at any desirable length to facilitate installation of the connector assembly to a circuit board.

  • Patent number: 8145750
Abstract: According to one method for detecting a hidden shared dependency through covert channels, a pattern of bursts is transmitted to a first application hosted by a first server. The pattern of bursts may be designed to stress a potential hidden dependency shared by the first application and a second application hosted by a second server. Each of the bursts may include one or more concurrent requests. Probe requests are transmitted to the second application. Responses corresponding to the probe requests are received from the second application. Response times are determined by computing a difference between times that the probe requests are transmitted and times that the corresponding responses are received. A determination is made whether the potential hidden dependency exists based on the response times.

  • Patent number: 8146017
Abstract: Methods, systems, apparatus, and computer-readable media are provided herein for declarative data binding and data type propagation in a remote workflow schedule authoring system. According to one method, a user interface is provided for binding a parameter in a workflow action rule to a data value provided by a data source. The user interface may include a control for specifying a data source and a data field to which the parameter should be bound. The parameter is bound to the data source and data field selected using the user interface. If the data type of the selected data source is identical to the data type of the parameter, an internal lookup may be performed to retrieve the data value. Otherwise, the data type of the parameter may be propagated to the data source during lookup of the data value.
