  • Patent number: 8018919
Abstract: Surveillance of IP telephony may be performed through the use of conventional telephone equipment, according to principles of the invention while preventing giving indication to the monitored phone by alerting the user of the monitoring phone to such surveillance use prior to pick up by an agent for engagement of the monitoring phone in response to the alert. Such alerts may assume many forms such as ringing, visual indicators, data readouts, activating ancillary equipment, various flags, etc. This alert prior to surveillance is distinct from alerts used for normal non-surveillance calls, which the monitoring phone is capable of receiving.

  • Patent number: 8015281
Abstract: Technologies are described herein for providing dynamic flow control of requests to a server in a hybrid peer-to-peer network. The server collects a number of metrics related to its current stability and the throughput of requests from peer-to-peer devices. These metrics, along with associated trend data, are used by the server to calculate a current stability rating and a current throughput rating. The server then imposes flow control on a proportional number of the peer-to-peer devices based upon the current ratings. This operation is run periodically, with ratings re-calculated from current metrics, and new flow control measures imposed in each cycle.

  • Patent number: 8010250
Abstract: A system and methods for life optimal power management of a distributed or centralized battery network system for use in aircraft functions and subsystems are disclosed. The method determines power priority of the subsystems, and selectively distributes power from the battery network system to the subsystems based on the power priority. Concurrently with distributing power, the method manages the energy in the battery network system. To determine whether the battery power is sufficient for aircraft functions, the method also computes and indicates the actual available energy left in the battery network systems. With this approach, the system and methods can provide a persistent power supply in the event an unexpected battery failure occurs, thereby enabling the aircraft to safely maintain flight operability despite a battery failure.

  • Patent number: 8010487
Abstract: Tools and techniques are described for synchronization and collaboration within peer-to-peer and client/server environments. These tools may provide methods that include establishing peer-to-peer relationships between two or more client systems. These relationships enable the client systems to create respective local instances of workspaces, shared between the client systems to allow them to collaborate with one another. The client systems may participate in peer-to-peer synchronization flows with one another, with the synchronization flows representing updates made local to the shared workspaces of the client systems. The methods may also establish establishing a client/server relationship between one of the client systems and a server system. Through this client/server relationship, the client and server systems may participate in client/server synchronization flows, with these flows representing updates made to the local shared workspace at the client system.

  • Patent number: 8008826
Abstract: Apparatus and methods provide for a high specific power electro-dynamo device that utilizes high-temperature superconductors, a dysprosium core, and superconducting coils to provide power. According to various embodiments, a rotor includes a number of rotor arms with a high-temperature superconductor attached to each arm. A stator includes a number of stator arms with stator coils wrapped around each arm. The stator coils may include superconducting wires for providing a charge to the high-temperature superconductors and non-superconducting wires for inducing a voltage from the trapped flux provided by the superconductors during operation in generator mode. The dysprosium core maximizes the magnetic flux saturated by the core while providing additional safety measures during operation. A backup power wheel or permanent magnets positioned in series with the high-temperature superconductors may provide emergency power at non-cryogenic temperatures.

  • Patent number: 8009560
Abstract: Technologies are described herein for detecting and managing congestion on a shared network link. A determination is made whether the shared network link is congested based on loss rate and round-trip time (RTT) between a computer and a receiver operatively coupled by the shared network link. Upon determining that the shared network link is congested, a back-off operation is performed on the computer. The back-off operation may reduce an allocated bandwidth of the computer on the shared network link by transforming a higher allocated bandwidth into a lower allocated bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 8000682
Abstract: An apparatus and method for restricting access to data are provided. According to one aspect, an interface device for providing communications between a communications network and a device comprises an input, logic, and an output. The input receives data in a first format from the communications network. The logic receives a request from the device to access the data and determines whether the interface device is authorized to access the data. If the interface device is authorized to access the data, then the logic receives the data from the communications network. The logic then identifies a second format compatible with the device, translates the data to the second format, and transmits the translated data to the device.

  • Patent number: 7996570
Abstract: A hot key register request is created in an extensible firmware interface application, the hot key register request has a key number and a pointer to a hot key function for the new hot key. The hot key register request is sent to a keyboard driver in the extensible firmware interface. A hot key table is created in working storage from the hot key table in the keyboard driver, and a hot key entry is inserted into the hot key table in working storage. The entry includes the key number and pointer from the hot key register request to add the new hot key as a registered hot key. • Patent number: 7996499
Abstract: A Web service request is received that is constructed according to a first Web service technology and that targets an activation file constructed according to the first Web service technology. When the Web service request is received, it is modified to target an activation file constructed according to a second Web service technology. Binding properties associated with the Web service request and binding properties supported by a targeted Web service may also be identified. Binding properties for use in forwarding the Web service request to the Web service are then selected based upon the binding properties associated with the Web service request and the binding properties supported by the Web service. The Web service request is then forwarded to the Web service using a binding having the selected binding properties.

  • Patent number: 7996595
Abstract: Technologies are generally described herein for handling interrupts within a multiprocessor computing system. Upon receiving an interrupt at the multiprocessor computing system, a priority level associated with an interrupt handler for the interrupt can be determined. Current task priority levels can be queried from one or more processors of the multiprocessor computing system. One of the processors can be assigned to execute the interrupt handler in response to the processor having a lowest current task priority level. Interrupt arbitration can schedule and communicate interrupt responses among processor cores in a multiprocessor computing system. Arbitration can query information about current task or thread priorities from a set of processor cores upon receiving an interrupt. The processor core that is currently idle or running the lowest priority task may be selected to service the interrupt.

  • Patent number: 7991916
Abstract: Architecture that allows users in an application sharing environment to separately view portions of data that are not part of the current shared view. An enhanced application sharing component is provided that facilitates rendering the application data multiple times for a correspondingly similar number of simultaneous users, and sending the additional renderings to the other users for interaction. Each user client includes an application sharing viewer that composites the per-user renderings onto the base shared image of the user client to create a per-user view of the shared document. The enhanced sharing component renders the portion of the data that is requested by the remote user as a bitmap and passes the bitmap along with coordinate information to the client rendering program presentation with the shared data view. The coordinate information indicates where on the shared screen of the remote client the bitmap is overlayed to produce a seamless experience.
