  • Patent number: 4231026
Abstract: A circuit for detecting the discharge level of a long life battery, such as a lithium battery, in which the battery is periodically subjected to an increased load for short durations of time. The periodic increases in load allows the end of battery life to be predicted and detected prior to the time the battery is fully depleted. Forecasting the end of battery life ensures that the battery will have sufficient energy to reliably operate the discharge level detection circuitry before the battery is fully depleted.

  • Patent number: 4225768
Abstract: A coated electrode suitable for the welding of gray cast iron is provided comprising a core of iron or iron alloy with a coating thereon of a composition which on the dry weight basis contains 5% to 10% of a binder of an alkali metal silicate, 25% to 50% by weight of ferrovanadium containing 40% to 85% vanadium, 20% to 40% powdered iron, 15% to 20% BaCO.sub.3, 10% to 20% CaF.sub.2, and 1% to 3% ferrosilicon containing 30% to 80% silicon. It is preferred in welding a gray cast iron part to so arrange the electrode relative to the part so that the arc thereof is directed at an angle between 30.degree. and 60.degree. to the substrate surface so that the heat of the arc is not applied directly to the surface of the cast iron substrate but is absorbed substantially by the weld bead formed during welding.

  • Patent number: 4223498
Abstract: The invention contemplates an improved construction of the reinforced ends of flexible sheet-metal panels used in defining the basic generally cylindrical wall to be lined with flexible material in the erection of a prefabricated swimming pool. The end-reinforcement structure uses substantially thinner-gage material than heretofore, and yet a secured joint of two lapped panel ends has the hoop-tension resistance of the best of previous constructions without presenting any ambiguity regarding the sense (i.e., overlapped relation of parts) at the overlap.

  • Patent number: 4221545
Abstract: A noiseless supporting mechanism of a wobble plate in a compressor unit of the wobble plate type comprises a support member having a spherical convex surface at its end. The support member is elastically supported on the cylinder block and is disposed in a hollow portion of the wobble plate with the spherical convex surface being in contact with a spherical concave bottom surface of the hollow portion, to support the wobble plate. A plurality of equiangularly-spaced projections are supported around the central axis of the supporting member and are disposed in corresponding recesses formed in an inner surface at an opening edge of the hollow portion to prevent the wobble plate from rotating. The wobble plate thus nutates along the spherical convex surface by the rotation of the associated cam rotor.

  • Patent number: 4220894
Abstract: In a fluorescent display panel comprising a grid member comprising, in turn, a pair of grid leads extended integrally from a grid frame to which a grid is attached, each grid lead is fixed to a substrate of the panel. When driven in a time division fashion, the panel produces audible noises disagreeable to the ear. In order to reduce the noises, at least one of the grid lead pair is deformed perpendicularly of the grid at its portion between the grid frame and the portion at which the grid lead is fixed to the substrate. The deformation may be an indent directed either away or towards the substrate, with the thickness of the grid lead rendered at the position of the indent. The deformation may alternatively be a bend, with the thickness kept uniform. Also in the latter case, an indent is formed in the grid lead.

  • Patent number: 4218705
Abstract: Delay compensation apparatus for minimizing the delay differences between a video signal transmitted through a plurality of frame synchronizers, which delay the video signal, and a normally undelayed audio signal, the audio and video signal making up a complete television signal. Combinations of discreet delay intervals are imposed on the audio signal such that delay differences between the audio and video signal are minimized to the extent that the negligible remaining delay difference does not degrade the reproduced television picture.

  • Patent number: RE30384
Abstract: An improved solar cell designed for optimum efficiency is comprised of a plurality of series connected unit solar cells formed from a common substrate of semiconductor material. Each unit solar cell has spaced elongate sidewalls, and a "dead space" area between adjoining sidewalls of adjacent units is made substantially smaller than an active, light receiving area, extending between the opposite sidewalls of each individual unit. In addition, the width of the active area is concisely limited to ensure that radiation incident on the active area is incident at a point which is spaced from the p-n junction of each unit by no more than a predetermined optimum distance. Reducing the "dead space" area while concisely limiting the width of the active area provides improved solar cell performance without requiring focusing lenses.
