  • Patent number: 4210895
Abstract: Pressure sensitive resistor elements are provided which serve as an on-off switching device and comprise an anisotropically electroconductive sheet which is formed of an insulating rubbery elastomer as a matrix within which many electroconductive fibers are dispersed and oriented in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of the sheet, an electrode provided on each surface of the sheet, and an insulating layer interposed between at least one of the electrodes and the sheet. The resistor elements can remain insulating in the absence of a compressive force between the electrodes and contribute to electric conduction in the presence of the compressive force.

  • Patent number: 4209708
Abstract: The feeding of a plurality of material webs to a machine for simultaneous processing of the webs, is controlled by web-feed control apparatus arranged to synchronize feeding of the webs relative to each other. This synchronization is effected by using optical sensors to detect spacing marks along each web and then controlling the rate of advance of each web such that the spacing marks pass the optical sensors simultaneously for all the webs. The rate of web advance may be controlled by selective activation of braking devices or by varying the drive to the advancing means of each web.

  • Patent number: 4208101
Abstract: The invention contemplates a multiple-element microscope objective assembly which is removably mountable to a microscope body and which includes a front element adapted for immersion contact with a liquid medium through which a microscopic object is to be observed. The invention features an externally accessible control adjustment for selectively axially positioning one of the optical elements of the objective with respect to the rest of the assembly such that a corrective optical adjustment is made for such change in refractive index as may characterize the use of one vs. another liquid-immersion substance, thereby enabling the microscope to preserve its normal focusing action consistently for use of the objective with a plurality of different immersion substances having different refractive indices.

  • Patent number: 4205340
Abstract: In order to make a cathode-ray tube display a television picture for providing a copy thereof, as in a computer output device, a circuit produces dot-superposed signals for those portions of a television signal which provide half-tone areas of the picture. For a color television signal, the dot-superposed signals are derivable by storing the television signal for one field of frame and repeatedly reading the stored signal. The read-out signals are preferably emphasized at the subcarrier frequency. For a monochrome television signal, a signal is generated and inversed. For a generated signal of an even multiple of the horizontal scanning frequency, a phase-adjusted signal is produced by selecting either the generated signal in every other line period of the respective frames and the inversed signal in the remaining line periods or the generated and inversed signals in every other field and the remaining fields, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4205322
Abstract: The invention contemplates electrostatic recording apparatus in which a toner image consisting of toner particles of at least two different kinds and of different polarities is efficiently and reliably transferred to a recording medium, such as an ordinary sheet of paper. The toner particles having different polarities are all converted into those having one polarity, and after such conversion the toner image (with its two kinds of particles) is electrostatically transferred to the recording medium, the transfer involving both kinds of particles at the same time. Various embodiments are described.

  • Patent number: 4204209
Abstract: It is a recent trend in a fluorescent display device comprising a plurality of anode units, each composed of segmented anodes arranged in a preselected configuration, that grids aligned in one-to-one correspondence to the anode units are rendered narrower in the direction of alignment. The device comprises a first and a second group of anode connections for every other one of the anode units and the remaining anode units, respectively, with each of all anode connections connected to a prescribed one of the segmented anodes of each anode unit. For making the device display at least one digit, a grid driver energizes all grids, preferably cyclically, a particular one at a time slot together with at least one nearest grid. An anode driver selectively energizes the anode connections of one of the two groups that includes the anode unit to which the particular grid is in one-to-one correspondence.

  • Patent number: 4203088
Abstract: A pressure sensitive multiple resistor element is proposed whereby two or more variations of resistance can be obtained simultaneously by applying a single compressive force. It comprises an anisotropically electroconductive composite sheet exhibiting varied resistance between its opposite surface as a result of the compressive force applied thereto, a set of electrodes provided on one surface of the composite sheet, another set of electrodes provided on the other surface, and a means for applying the compressive force to the composite sheet through the electrodes. The anisotropically electroconductive composite sheet is formed of an electrically insulating rubbery elastomer as the matrix within which many electroconductive fibers are dispersed and oriented in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4198117
Abstract: An optical multiplexer-demultiplexer consisting essentially of a light-focusing transmission body having a radially graded refractive index distribution and a reflection or transmission type diffraction grating. The transmission body is given an axial length approximately equal to an integral multiple of one quarter of the pitch of undulation of an off-axis input light beam as travelling through the transmission body while the diffraction grating is arranged on the axis of the transmission body at a distance approximately equal to an odd multiple of one quarter of the pitch of beam undulation from one end face of the transmission body which is normal to the axis. A composite light beam directed into the transmission body is dispersed by the diffraction grating into wavelength components, which are separately focused to be extracted as through respective optical fibers.

  • Patent number: 4196638
Abstract: The invention contemplates an improved traction-drive transmission of the variety in which plural planet wheels are radially displaceable in orbital motion about an axially opposed pair of axially shiftable sun wheels and within an axially opposed pair of rotationally fixed reaction rings, said planet wheels having constant angular-contact with the wheels and rings of both pairs. An axially fixed pivotal reference between the sun wheels is used for linked connection of the sun wheels such that displacement of the respective sun wheels is always equal in magnitude but in opposite axial directions with respect to the axially fixed reference, thus assuring that the instantaneous radius of planet-wheel orbit between the sun wheel and reaction ring on one axial side of the fixed reference will at all times match the instantaneous radius of planet-wheel orbit between the sun wheel and reaction ring on the other axial side of the fixed reference.
