  • Patent number: 7544962
Abstract: In a method for reading out information stored in a phosphor layer whereby the phosphor layer is stimulated into emitting emission light by stimulation light produced from a light source, the emission light emitted from one or several areas of the phosphor layer is collected by a detector moved relative to the phosphor layer, and then converted into corresponding emission light signals. In order to improve the signal/noise ratio, the light source is momentarily switched off at least once during the movement of the detector relative to the phosphor layer. When the light source is switched off, a background, which is caused by the ambient light and/or dark currents in the detector, is collected by the detector and converted into a corresponding background signal. The background signal is then used for correcting the emission light signals.

  • Patent number: 7539530
Abstract: A method for improving the treatment and/or examination of vessel walls through fluid, such as blood, functions by identifying the points in time when the catheter is closest to the vessel wall or farthest from the vessel wall. Identification of this relative location enables improved spectral readings in larger vessels. In short, instead of trying to overcome motion (e.g., by centering the catheter), this approach takes advantage of motion by identify times when the catheter is closer to the vessel wall, in order to gather more useful spectral information or improve the efficacy of the treatment of the vessel walls. In the specific example, the invention is used for near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. In some embodiments, the catheter head is designed to induce relative movement between the head and the vessel walls.

  • Patent number: 7535935
Abstract: A laser system for a spectroscopic catheter system uses multiple semiconductor gain media having gain peaks at different wavelengths. The output from the gain media is preferably coupled into single-mode fiber using conventional opto-electronic packaging techniques. As a result, the laser oscillator source has a spectral output that is wider than the gain bandwidth of a single medium to enable it to access the entire spectrum of interest, which is presently in the near infrared. Moreover, the semiconductor gain media can be packaged in a stable and controlled environment for long-term performance.

  • Patent number: 7521663
Abstract: The present invention discloses an optoelectronic detector for light sensing. The optoelectronic detector has a photosensitive element that converts light into electrons. Efficient collection of these electrons at readout nodes, embedded in the photosensitive element, is required to make correct measurements of light characteristics such as, phase shift and intensity. This collection of electrons is achieved by applying a voltage gradient across an electrode within the optoelectronic detector. The optoelectronic detector can have multiple readout nodes. Further, the present invention discloses methods for detecting intensity and phase shift of impinging light and for suppression of background illumination while detecting the characteristics of light.

  • Patent number: 7516627
Abstract: A krypton-xenon concentrate is first divided into krypton and xenon fractions in a preliminary rectifying column. Semi-volatile impurities are removed from each fraction, and production krypton and xenon are obtained from the refined fractions in krypton and xenon production columns. A recovered krypton flow is produced in a krypton recovery rectifying column. Reflux is formed in condensers-evaporators of rectification columns of the device in such a way that the formation of a solid phase is excluded. The operation of the rectification columns is initiated by supplying krypton to a contacting space.

  • Patent number: 7504995
Abstract: A system and method for compensating for changes in relative antenna attitude in a single-receiver position detection system, such as a differential carrier phase GPS system, utilizes sensor input to detect changes in the relative attitude of at least two antennas or an antenna positioner, such as an motorized actuator or operator, that orients or re-orients the antennas to a predetermined orientation. The changes in the detected relative carrier phase due to the right hand circular polarized nature of the carrier signals are thus corrected. In this way, the high positional accuracy associated with kinematic GPS systems, for example, can be achieved even when the system's antennas are not constrained by a common rigid body, for example.

  • Patent number: 7499521
Abstract: An imaging technology for fuel cells is based on x-ray microscopy. A metrology system images the electro-chemical interaction areas of solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFC) in-situ. This system takes advantage of both the penetrating power and elemental absorption contrast of hard x-ray radiation to image the internal interaction areas in a SOFC. The technology can further take advantage of the strong dependence of the x-ray absorption on material type and energy to distinguish the four major material types: cathode, electrolyte, air, and low-Z contaminants such as sulfur.
