  • Patent number: 8305256
Abstract: A radar system achieves unambiguous target range at a given PRI, in conjunction with unambiguous Doppler, by transmitting CW-LFM pulses and then separating the return signal into subpulses, without requiring any modifications to the transmit waveform. The CW-LFM pulses may be contiguous. The return signals are bandpass-filtered to generate the subpulses, and downconverted to a common frequency such as baseband. Each downconverted subpulse is matched-filtered to the FM slope, and the resulting matched-filtered subpulses are time-aligned. The time-aligned subpulses are Doppler-filtered to determine target velocity.

  • Patent number: 8286521
Abstract: An actuator assembly for remote actuation of control panel components in an environment that restricts human access is contemplated. The actuator assembly includes one or more remotely controllable linear drive mechanisms for imparting a rotation motion on one or more cams to remotely press a control panel component such as a button or switch. While disengaged, the cams are rotated to a position where they minimally obstruct an operator's view. The actuator assembly also allows the force and throw of actuation to be accurately controlled.

  • Patent number: 8289857
Abstract: The invention concerns the technical field of a so-called Path MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) Discovery process between two computing nodes over packet switched networks. On the path between two hosts (H1, H2, H3) in the network may exist various hops, e.g. routers (R1, R2), a packet needs to pass. Each link between two hops has its own MTU which may differ on each link. Some path MTU discovery algorithms are based on sending probe packets with the DF (don't fragment) bit set in the IP header. However, security devices, e.g. firewalls, often block ICMP messages, including the ICMP error messages that are needed for these path MTU discovery algorithms to work. In order to deal with connections, on which ICMP messages are blocked within the network nodes, the invention relies on acknowledgements of probe packets with MTU sizes of common network technology based MTU values sent back by the destination host.

  • Patent number: 8269648
Abstract: The invention provides for electromagnetic transmission and reception used in detecting relative changes associated with nano devices existing within an oil reservoir. The system enables monitoring of the relative movement of the nano devices in the oil and/or water over a given area based on the incremental or relative changes of the intensity of the reflections over time. In one embodiment, a source of electromagnetic energy from an array of antennae transmitting immediately in the far field recharges a power source embedded in the nano devices. In another embodiment, the return signals from the nano devices maps the morphology of ensembles of nano devices. In yet another embodiment the transmission controls the movement of the nano devices and controls the function preformed by the nano devices relative to effecting changes in the well to improve production of oil.

  • Patent number: 8269665
Abstract: Modern tactical radars frequently use phase shifters to electronically specify or steer the spatial position of the antenna beam without requiring mechanical motion of the antenna. These phase shifters can only be set correctly for a specific frequency. If a waveform is transmitted through the antenna which consists of multiple segments which differ in frequency or modulation from that frequency used to steer the position of the beam, errors are introduced into the monopulse measurement. These monopulse errors are reduced or eliminated by correction factors. The monopulse errors are corrected by pre-computed factors or terms which result from the differences in frequency and modulation used in the waveform from the frequency used to steer or position the beam. Correction is also provided for radar altitude. These correction factors are easily pre-computed and applied only when needed to minimize the computational requirements.

  • Patent number: 8264685
Abstract: A device for measuring two components of an electromagnetic field in an analysis zone includes a light source for sending a polarized light beam into a polarization-maintaining optical fiber. The beam is directed along one axis of the fiber. An isotropic electrooptic material is placed in the zone for receiving the beam from the optical fiber via a substantially quarter-wave plate, which has its axes oriented at an angle of substantially 45° to the axes of the optical fiber and for sending a beam into the fiber. The plate is slightly detuned in regard to its characteristics or its orientation. The device further includes a phase-shifter for phase-shifting the beam sent into the fiber, wherein the phase-shifter is set so as to impose a phase shift equal and opposite to that imposed by the fiber and mechanism for analyzing the orientation and ellipticity of the wave exiting the phase-shifter.

  • Patent number: 8264126
Abstract: An impedance conversion layer useful for medical imaging ultrasonic transducers comprises a low impedance polymer layer and a high impedance metal layer. These layers are combined with corresponding thicknesses adapted to provide a function of converting from a specific high impedance to specific low impedance, wherein the polymer layer is at the high impedance side and the metal layer is at the low impedance side. The effective acoustic impedance of the polymer and metal layer combination may be adapted to configure an impedance converter in the same way as a quarter wavelength impedance converter, converting from low impedance to high impedance (metal to polymer) or from a high impedance to low impedance (polymer to metal). This structure may be used for front matching with the propagation medium and back matching with an absorber for ultrasonic transducers.

  • Patent number: 8253621
Abstract: A radar volume in a cued direction is searched with sequential pencil beams. The cued direction is subject to uncertainty in the form of covariance. The covariance defines an ellipse rotated relative to the azimuth axis. Before determining the extent of the acquisition face, the ellipse is projected onto a viewplane normal to the radar range axis, and rotated so the principal axes are parallel with the traverse and elevation directions. The acquisition face is then found. The number of beams required to scan the search volume is determined. In one embodiment, the search volume is sent to the radar, and the radar rotates the beams to their correct positions. The beams are then scheduled.

  • Patent number: 8232911
Abstract: A method and system provide for confirmation of friendly aircraft as a backup to conventional IFF (identification, friend or foe) telecommunication systems and methods. An IFF secondary radar signal is generated and directed to an aircraft. When no confirming response is received within a pre-determined time period, the invention provides for generating and transmitting a pre-arranged modulated signal to the aircraft. In response to receiving the pre-arranged modulated signal, the aircraft notifies the aircrew to execute a pre-arranged kinematic maneuver that is detected by the systems using radar means to confirm that the aircraft is a friendly aircraft.
