    Abstract: A blade for a stator of a variable-geometry turbine, particularly for aircraft engines; the blade has an airfoil profile hinged to a structure of the stator to rotate about an axis, and having a pressure front wall and a suction rear wall; the blade also has two end walls, which are located at opposite ends of the airfoil profile, cooperate in sliding manner with the structure of the stator, and are cooled, in use, by air flowing through a number of holes; the outlets of the holes are located close to the outer edges between the end walls and the front wall to generate a tangential stream of cooling air by virtue of the pressure difference acting on the front and rear walls.

    Abstract: A family of low temperature brazing alloys wherein the alloy is utilized in the form of a filler metal or shim and consists of electroplated nickel on zinc shimstock, wherein the zinc shimstock includes zinc, aluminum and silicon, with or without a small amount of lead, tantalum or bismuth. The use of the brazing alloys for joining aluminum parts together or an aluminum part to a part of another metal, such as brass. Further, metallic coating could be thermally spray coated and powder metals could be utilized as the filler materials with equally acceptable brazing techniques. Using these techniques, the brazing could be accomplished at a temperature in the range of 750 to 1050° F.

A second flow path delivers fuel that is not deposited into the cell cavities to the fuel storage unit. A third flow path delivers unused and/or partially used fuel and/or reaction products and/or spent reaction solution from the cell cavities back to an optional reaction product storage unit and/or the fuel storage unit and/or to the second flow path. The system may further comprise an optional reaction product storage unit, an optional regeneration unit, an optional second reactant storage unit, an optional controller, and an optional power converter.

    Abstract: The present invention provides market participants the ability to infer the current internal state, i.e., the depth and activity of active buyers and sellers, in a variety of markets, such as double-auction markets. The invention does so by measuring certain averages and correlations of various indicators of market liquidity and producing useful market liquidity assessments and trader recommendations as a result. Various measures of market liquidity such as the bid-offer spread, the time to mid-market trade, spread fluctuations, deal rate, and bid and offer size are correlated, and monitored to assess a market's current internal state. From that information, the relationship between fluctuations in the bid price and the average number of buyers can be calculated to determine whether, for example, there is an excess of buyers or sellers in the market. Accordingly, based upon such calculations, accurate trader recommendations may be produced.

    Abstract: A matrix driven electrophoretic display with a multi-layer back plane is disclosed. The display comprises a top electrode layer, a display cell layer, and a multi-layer back plane. In one embodiment, the multi-layer back plane comprises an electrode formed on the top surface of the top substrate of the multi-layer back plane, a conductive via structure through the substrate, and a conductive trace connected electrically to the via structure at the bottom surface of the first substrate, whereby an electrical connection may be made from the electrode to a structure or component not located immediately beneath the electrode in the multi-layer back plane. In other embodiments, the multi-layer back plane may comprise additional layers and via holes, as needed to connect the electrode with the appropriate switching elements and/or driver elements, as applicable. Such switching and driver elements, integrated with multi-layer back plane.

A novel roll-to-roll process and apparatus of the invention permits the display manufacture to be carried out continuously by a synchronized photo-lithographic process.

    Abstract: An optical fiber splice protection apparatus that allows optical fiber to be spliced and placed in position on a mandrel in cases of assembling a module or repairing optical fiber that has been broken. The present invention comprises a splice protector affixed to a mandrel and a rotation sleeve for winding excess fiber onto the mandrel. The rotation sleeve is located between the splice protector and an adjacent mandrel. The rotation sleeve facilitates winding excess fiber onto the mandrel, and has a longitudinal axis aligned with the longitudinal axis of the hydrophone assembly with a groove to receive the fiber and maintain the fiber's minimum bend radius. The splice protector and the rotation sleeve are substantially semi-circular in cross-section. A method is also provided for protecting spliced optical fibers using a splice protector and rotation sleeve.

    Abstract: A strain gage apparatus for measuring the load applied to a derrick leg mechanically multiplies the deflection or distortion of a strain gage. The apparatus attaches to the derrick leg at two points that are spaced about five feet apart. Accumulated strain along the five-foot section moves one end of an elongate member a significant distance. The distance is much greater than any localized movement or minute strain in the derrick leg. The movement of the elongate member stresses a reaction member upon which the strain gage is mounted.

The ethylenically unsaturated derivatives of fatty acids and/or oils are blended with other monomers and polymerized in a second stage of the polymerization reaction. A suitable surfactant is added to the polymerization mixture to facilitate formation of the emulsion. In a preferred embodiment, the surfactant is a hybrid surfactant, i.e., one having both anionic and non-ionic characteristics.

    Abstract: Novel latex or emulsion compositions containing internally plasticizing and crosslinkable long-chain alkenol ester monomers are disclosed and claimed. Preferred embodiments include latex formed from acrylate or methacrylate esters of long-chain alkenols. A process for the synthesis of the latex composition is also disclosed, which involves (a) esterification of a long-chain alkenol with an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid; (b) polymerization of the ethylenically unsaturated ester in an aqueous phase with at least one other copolymerizable monomer; and (b) blending of so formed polymer with at least one drier and a surfactant to form the novel latex or emulsion compositions. These compositions form films at low minimum film forming temperatures (MFT) ranging from ?5 to 10° C. and cure to above ambient glass transition (Tg) polymers without the use of traditional organic cosolvents which contribute to environmental pollution via volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emissions.
