  • Patent number: 4508044
Abstract: An existing pillow which has a tick enclosing a stuffing that has deteriorated is inserted into an envelope. The envelope is made of a yielding foam material having a wall thickness sufficient to mask irregularities in the stuffing of the existing pillow. The entire pillow, including the tick and the enclosed stuffing is inserted into the envelope, and the envelope is then sewn shut. The envelope with the existing pillow is then placed into a second tick to form the rebuilt pillow.

  • Patent number: 4508130
Abstract: A method of repairing a leak, where there is a water network with a main shutoff valve. An isolation valve is inserted in the pipe a short distance upstream of the leak, and the leak is repaired by using the local isolation valve to keep water from the repair location. This enables the main shutoff valve to be opened and distribute water to the other areas of the network. The isolation valve is particularly arranged to become a permanent part of the water system after the leak is repaired.

  • Patent number: 4505259
Abstract: A building having window structures in exterior walls of the building. Each window structure has an exterior and an interior panel spaced from one another to define a plenum therebetween, with radiation absorbing blinds positioned in the plenum. The blinds absorb solar energy, and air from within the building is circulated through the plenum to absorb energy from the blinds. The heated air can be circulated through a heat exchange heat storage structure, and selectively discharged to the outside, circulated to another building portion, or recirculated into the same building portion. Control means are provided to combine outside air with the inside air being circulated to maintain proper temperature in the building within predetermined upper and lower temperature limits.

  • Patent number: 4502905
Abstract: A typing ribbon is carried by a carrier ring around a bundle of wires, while locating pins hold the ribbon spaced from the wires. A finger engages the ribbon and moves it laterally across one of the ribbon loops to form the tie. Then, an electrically heated weld bar engages the ribbon at the tie area to bond the ribbon portion to one another.

  • Patent number: 4497686
Abstract: A method for fabricating a precision die having a line-and-space array by chemical milling the working face of an etchable workpiece to form a plurality of raised die elements separated and bounded by a plurality of cavities, including separating cavities and background cavities, is comprised of the steps of forming an etchant-resistant surface pattern of pockets penetrating slightly into the working face of the workpiece and at least partially overlapping and substantially conforming to the spatial disposition of a desired configuration for the die elements to be produced, and then selectively etching the workpiece in etchant-active regions intermediate and outwardly bounded by the pockets to undercut the same and form at least the conformation of the separating/background cavities within the working face.

  • Patent number: 4496121
Abstract: A control surface lock (10) for flutter constraint of a control surface (14) of an aircraft in cooperative combination with an hydraulic actuator (12), wherein system pressure on the actuator maintains the lock in a dynamically bypassed configuration and loss of system pressure causes the lock to assume a constraint configuration providing a stiff link with the control surface, is comprised of a locking piston (82) secured to the control surface and disposed for reciprocable movement in a locking cylinder (90) upon actuation of the surface, first and second charged locking chambers (92, 94) within the cylinder disposed for series flow of fluid from one to the other upon movement of the locking piston through a bypass valve (100) biased to an open position and a flow splitter (74) having a parallel flow path from the actuator to serve for fluid exchange; wherein loss of system pressure interrupts the series flow and locks the piston in the constraint configuration for flutter protection of the control surface.

  • Patent number: 4491065
Abstract: An oven having a heating chamber in which a perforate food container is rotatably mounted about a center axis of rotation. The container has, relative to its longitudinal center axis, a symmetrical octagonal configuration so as to comprise two planar end walls and eight symmetrically arranged sidewalls. The container rotates at a slow rate, and hot air is directed upwardly and laterally through the food in the container to heat the same. Formed in the upper wall of the oven is an elongate planar condensation chamber, and exhaust fumes from the cooking oven pass upwardly and forwardly into this condensation chamber, in a manner to combine with ambient air so as to lower the temperature and enhance condensation.

  • Patent number: 4489905
Abstract: A below-wing engine nacelle mounted by a pylon forwardly of a wing having a rearward sweep. The pylon upper outboard edge that extends forwardly of the wing is formed with a relatively sharp radius of curvature. Thus, airflow which flows over the top of the pylon in an outboard direction separates over the sharp pylon edge to form a vortex which passes beneath the wing adjacent the outboard surface of the pylon. This vortex maintains attached flow at the outboard pylon surface immediately beneath the wing to reduce drag.
