  • Patent number: 6817190
Abstract: A gas turbine engine rotor has a body and blades, which are attached to the rotor by a root portion, for receiving a hot fluid flow and a compressed fluid from a compressor. Each blade has a base portion, an external airfoil surface, a blade flow portion of the airfoil, and a passage system communicating with the compressor and with the blade flow portion to create a thermal insulating boundary between the heated fluid and the external airfoil surface. The rotor has a substantially planar platform member, extending substantially transversally to the body of the blade and having an upstream portion protruding in the direction toward the combustion zone. The platform member has at least a pair of openings on either side of the airfoil, the openings being positioned in series along the blade flow portion. One opening of the pair defines an inclined passage in the platform member, and the other opening is separated by a partition from the first opening.

  • Patent number: 6782636
Abstract: The present invention comprises a hot air generator having hand fastening means; projecting therefrom there is a rigid tube with a lower outlet, tilted so as to face the hair, and a rotatably mounted flexible hose, attached in the same manner at its other end and having a handgrip provided with an internal tube; the distal end of said internal tube can be alternately attached either to a brush intended for brushing purposes, having aeration holes in its body, or to a flat surface ironing accessory, said accessory being complemented by a similar and opposed accessory connected to the rigid tube, so that any of the two operations may be conducted with only one hand; the first operation by directing the air flow from the rigid tube towards the hair external layers while carrying out the styling and drying operations of the hair internal layers by means of the cylindrical brush, and the second operation, by contacting the flat area of the rigid tube ironing accessory, heated by the latter, with the external layer

  • Patent number: 6693082
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of 1-deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin (desmopressin), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a pharmaceutical composition containing any of them, in the preparation of a medication which minimizes metastatic dissemination during cancer surgery. Additionally, the invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the same and to a method of treating a mammal in order to inhibit metastatic spread during surgical extirpation of a cancer mass.

  • Patent number: 6684108
Abstract: An apparatus and method for diagnosing, treating, monitoring and modifying the treatment of cancer and other illnesses in humans and animals is described. A radioscope is used to test a biological sample from a subject, and the results of that test are compared to a tabulation of prior test results in order to diagnose the illness of the subject. The illness is then treated using a therapeutic apparatus involving the low-power, pulsed application of radio frequency tuned with precision of at least one half part per million. A radioscope is then used to monitor the results of the treatment, and the results of the later tests are again compared to a tabulation of prior test results in order to adjust the treatment if necessary.

  • Patent number: 6557337
Abstract: A gas turbine engine a turbine, a compressor turbine mounted downstream the turbine for rotation in a direction opposite to the rotation direction of the turbine that is mounted downstream the compressor. Exhaust fluid from the compressor turbine is cooled in a heat exchanger with a compressed fluid downstream the compressor and is then cooled with air in separate heat exchanger before being admitted to the compressor. A part of the compressed fluid heated in the heat exchanger is fed to cool the turbine blades, and the rest of the fluid is fed to a heated fluid source for the turbine. To control the gas turbine engine, a part of fluid is boosted by a booster compressor and is discharged from the engine. The booster compressor is driven by an expanding turbine that rotated under the effect of combustion air that is expanded in the expanding turbine and flows through the expanding turbine under the action of reduced pressure in the heated fluid source.

  • Patent number: 6511176
Abstract: An improved eyeglass retainer is disclosed, having annular closure attaching to the eyeglass frames. In an alternate embodiment, the closure comprises an elastic band that is only partially attached to the front portion of retainer, meaning that the retainer need not be tubular at the attachment point with elastic band. The invention is designed to present an aesthetically pleasing appearance and to maintain a close fit of the retainer material with the eyeglass frames, even in the presence of winds and inertial forces. In alternate embodiments, the closure in combination with protuberances located on the eyeglass temple pieces secures the retainer to the temple pieces. The protuberances may be integral with the eyeglass frames, or may be separately attached.
