  • Patent number: 6389107
Abstract: A system is provided for measuring the polarity and intensity of extreme ultraviolet, soft x-ray, and x-ray radiation. The system comprises a reflective surface, a capillary array, and a detector. The reflective surface is adapted to reflect radiation from a source on to a receiving end of the capillary array. The reflective surface may have a variety of shapes, such as a curved, parabolic shape or a flat shape, for reflecting the radiation in a desired manner. The capillary array may also have a variety of shapes for directing the radiation to the detector, such as a curved shape or a conical shape. The capillaries in the capillary arrays may have an inner diameter that decreases from the receiving end of the array to the emitting end of the array. This increases the flux density of the radiation emitted by the capillary array and helps the detector measure weak radiation.

  • Patent number: 6368214
Abstract: A method of playing a keno wagering game that is based upon a multi-step game is disclosed. The method utilizes an underlying keno game that allows the player to perform predefined chargeable actions while the player is playing the underlying game. The player is charged for each chargeable action the player performs. The player is awarded a prize if a predefined prize event or condition occurs during the game. The method of the present invention may be applied to solitaire, poker, blackjack, slot machines, and many other kinds of games.

  • Patent number: 6338678
Abstract: A ball selector and display device comprising a plurality of prize balls, a ball holder adapted to hold the balls in an individually controlled manner, a controller adapted to select a prize ball, a display mechanism adapted to display the selected prize ball to the player; and a positioning mechanism in communication with the controller adapted to position the selected prize ball relative to the display mechanism. The ball selector and display device may be combined with a jumbled ball display wherein the balls displayed by the ball selector and display device appear to originate from the jumbled ball display. The ball selector and display device may also be combined with a game apparatus that is adapted to allow players to play a game. In this embodiment, the ball selector and display device may provide a bonus award for the player. Several games are also provided that may be used with the ball selector and display device.

  • Patent number: 6335782
Abstract: A switch device and method is disclosed that is capable of switching wavelength division multiplexed optical signals. The device comprises a switch element, which may include a detector, an emitter array, and a switch controller. The detector is adapted to detect optical signals and is positioned to receive light from a source. The emitter array is positioned to transmit light to a plurality of targets. The emitter comprises at least one emitter and a modulator array. The modulator array selectively allows light to pass through the modulator array. The switch controller is in communication with the detector and the emitter array. The switch controller is adapted to cause the emitter array to generate the detected signal. The switch elements are grouped in an array and dichroic beam splitters may be used to reflect predetermined ranges of wavelengths to the individual switch elements.

  • Patent number: 6313936
Abstract: A switch device and method is disclosed that is capable of switching wavelength division multiplexed optical signals. The device comprises a switch element that may include a beam splitter, a plurality of wave plates, and a plurality of micro-electromechanical mirrors. The beam splitter is adapted to transmit light in one polarization and reflect light another polarization. The wave plates are adapted to change the polarization of the light so that the beam splitter either reflects or transmits the light. The micro-electromechanical mirrors are adapted to position the beam of light so that it is directed to a selected target.

  • Patent number: 6241608
Abstract: A linked progressive gaming system and method of operation is disclosed that is capable of accepting wagers in different currencies and different denominations of the same currency and allowing players in diverse locations to play for common progressive prizes. The system periodically computes each current prize value using the data acquired from each gaming device, and displays the values at each location where participating gaming devices are located, in the currency used at each particular location. Multiple prizes may be supported simultaneously. Each gaming device may be linked to one or more prizes. Progressive prize award events may be triggered by random events associated with play based on wagers made on gaming devices or by the central system based on prize criteria exceeding a boundary limit. A Free Play apparatus is disclosed that allows non-progressive gaming devices, as well as other traditional games, to participate in progressive play.

  • Patent number: 6224492
Abstract: An optical reference marker system comprising at least one optical reference marker and a storage member, wherein the storage member is adapted to hold the optical reference marker. The optical reference marker typically comprises a thin film material such as vinyl, and is adapted to be removably attached to a lens on a pair of glasses on a golfer's head. Thus, a golfer may select the appropriate optical reference marker for the ensuing shot, and thereafter return it to the storage member, which may comprise a laminated card.
