Abstract: A smoker's pipe of the dry bowl type is disclosed which has a ceramic inner bowl secured at its lower end to the lower end of an outer plastic bowl in a manner to space the bowls radially apart for the establishment of a cooling air space between the bowls. The pipe has a stem provided with an auxiliary fresh air inlet that is in communication with one end of a horizontal longitudinally extending passageway located in the bottom of the inner bowl below the combustion chamber and in communication therewith. The other end of the passageway is in communication with a cooling chamber to communicate smoke from the inner bowl to a mouthpiece fitted in the outer end of the stem. The mouthpiece has an insert cluster containing a smoke passage tube and a liquid contaminant tube, the latter of which is received within the open end of a liquid absorber mounted on a plug that is frictionally fitted in a bore formed in the front end of the stem below the bowl assembly.

Abstract: A thermoscopic unit such as for use in a thermostat of a fluid mixing valve comprising a hollow body in which a cylindrical convoluted bellows unit is located and sealed to the body to define an expansion chamber in which a thermally responsive material, such as wax, is contained. Temperature changes resulting in a change of volume of the material in the expansion chamber apply an external pressure to change the axial length of the bellows unit, and this may be operably connected to an actuator for a valve assembly. Preferably, there is a reservoir of the material constituted by a tubular coil encircling the hollow body, or a hollow cone extending therefrom. Such reservoir is filled with the material and is in communication with the expansion chamber and provides additional heat transfer surfaces to give fast response to temperature changes.

Abstract: An improved presensitized printing plate comprises at least one metal working surface, a cobalt layer electroplated on the outer working surface of said at least one metal working surface, and a coating of light sensitive material directly deposited on said cobalt layer.A method is also described which makes use of metallic cobalt for the preparation of presensitized printing plates in order to provide layers that are in themselves adherent to light sensitive materials without the need of using adhesives, and are useful for directly depositing light sensitive coatings thereon.

Abstract: The present invention is a dog lavatory that is installable in a basement, apartment bathroom, or a separate area of a residential home or building. The lavatory comprises a hollow, box-shaped platform having a shield mounted around the top thereof. An endless belt extends across the top of the platform and is moveably mounted for receiving animal wastes and transferring them upon movement to the internal portions of the platform. The internal portions of the platform include a drain and built-in trap area. Piping connectable to the residential plumbing conducts liquid therefrom into a perforated service pipe mounted along the top and bottom portions of the shield.

Abstract: Electronic watch comprising electronic circuits provided for the measurement and the display of the time which are also partly used in order to provide a sequence of different states of the indication of an additional display circuit, an additional control circuit being controlled by a player in such a way as to interrupt the sequence of different states as a function of the instantaneous state of the additional display and of the adroitness of the player.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine including a coolant jacketed body surrounding a combustion cylinder with a tubular wall extending through the coolant jacket and surrounding an ignition device exposed through a firing deck area to said cylinder, has a circular recess axially of said ignition device and encompassing said firing deck area with an axially disposed, internally threaded bore extending from said recess into said tubular wall, and a circular plate insert having an axially disposed, externally threaded boss threadable into said bore to axially secure said insert within said recess, the diameter of said insert being less than the diameter of said recess to enable expansion by heat absorption of said insert independently of and without transmitting stress and strain to said engine body.

Abstract: A system for placing items, preferably for parking motor vehicles in a garage, comprises shiftable carrying plates, which carry the items and occupy a plurality of respective carrying plate positions arranged thoughout the available area in rows, which are transverse to each other and preferably at right angles to each other and may be disposed in a plurality of stories, if desired. The carrying plates occupy all but at least one of said carrying plate positions. Shifting means are provided for shifting each carrying plate between each carrying plate position and an adjacent one forwardly and rearwardly in the directions of said rows.

Abstract: An angled cutter for cutting stacks of paper or the like comprises two blade assemblies, each of which is formed with a cutting edge portion which is tapered only on one side. Each blade assembly has a solid inside surface. The blade assemblies are self-supporting and detachably connected. At the joint between the two blade assemblies, each of the tapered surfaces is ground off slightly more toward the joint-defining edges and the cutting edge than along the remaining portion of the cutting edge so that a rake is formed at the corner.
