Patent number: 7315571Abstract: A transceiver for communicating a multi-tone modulated communication channel on a subscriber line. The transceiver includes: a digital signal processor (DSP) with a Fourier transform module and an analog front end (AFE). The DSP determines an available range of frequencies on the subscriber line and expands or contracts the tone spacing of each of a fixed number āNā of tones accordingly by decreasing or increasing the processing interval associated with the Fourier transform of each tone set. The AFE performs digital-to-analog conversion of the multi-tone modulated communication channel at rates compatible with the processing interval of the Fourier transform module; whereby the range of frequencies spanned by the modulated tones on the subscriber line conforms to the available of frequencies on the subscriber line.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2001Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Assignee: Ikanos Communication IncInventors: Sam Heidari, Behrooz Rezvani, Raminder S. Patent number: 7188147Abstract: The present invention provides a network enabled multi-user configurable optical storage server. The device is easy to install and does not require client or server software. The server can be configured across a network through a series of HTML based web pages, or graphical user interfaces (GUI) provided by the server. The server can be accessed across a network by one or more users, terminals, or other network attached devices for substantially concurrent read/write access to one or more optical storage media. The server supports a comprehensive set of networking protocols and operating systems simultaneously. The server may support from one to hundreds of CD/DVD-ROMS. In an embodiment of the invention the server includes two stages of writing prior to committing to a write to the physical medium. This speeds both read and write access to the disk, allows concurrent user access to the disk, and greatly simplifies the mapping and file structures on the disk.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2000Date of Patent: March 6, 2007Assignee: Axis ABInventors: Pontus Soderstrom, Per Sten, Thu Le Chi

Patent number: 7092412Abstract: A method and apparatus for extending existing fiber and local area networks across digital subscriber lines, at matching data rates is disclosed. A DSL transceiver system is disclosed with one or more gateways coupled to at least one digital signal processor (DSP). The DSP in turn couples to a plurality of analog-front-ends (AFE's). Each AFE is coupled via associated hybrid front ends (HFE's) to corresponding subscriber lines. The transceiver or a controller coupled thereto maintains a table of bandwidth requirements and frame types for a variety of sessions. Individual sessions include bandwidth requirements beyond existing XDSL capabilities. The system determines frametype, e.g. 802 and bandwidth requirements, e.g. 100 Mbps for each session and allocates more than one subscriber line accordingly. For each session the divergent bandwidth availability of each of the subscriber lines to which the DSP may be coupled is determined and all or a portion of that bandwidth is allocated to the selected session.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2001Date of Patent: August 15, 2006Assignee: Ikanos Communications, Inc.Inventors: Behrooz Rezvani, Rouben Toumani, Sushil Agrawal

Patent number: 7076002Abstract: The apparatus for symbol boundary synchronization in one embodiment includes on the receive path of a multi-tone modem a window synchronizer, a converter and a symbol boundary component. The window synchronizer obtains windowed portions of the received datastream which includes symbols each expressed with a corresponding set of tones in a time domain. The windowed portions obtained in the training phase exhibit varying degrees of misalignment with the corresponding symbol boundaries. The window synchronizer is responsive to an alignment signal to obtain succeeding windowed portions of the incoming datastream aligned with the corresponding symbol boundaries therein. The converter couples to the window synchronizer to convert the set of tones from each windowed portion from the time domain to a frequency domain.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2002Date of Patent: July 11, 2006Assignee: Ikanos Communication, Inc.Inventors: Fernando Ramirez-Mireles, Robert Ayrapetian, Dale Smith, Max Chien, Sam Heidari

Patent number: 7076010Abstract: The current invention provides a method and apparatus for time domain equalization in an XDSL modem. A received communication channel is analyzed to determine the highest frequency component thereof. Typically, there is an inverse relationship between the length of a subscriber line and the highest frequency component over which communications can be supported. In response to the frequency determination, the sampling rate for the channel is reduced to the lowest sample rate consistent with maintaining signal integrity on the highest frequency component of the channel. The sampling rate reduction may accomplished in the analog portion of the receive path, e.g. the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) or in a digital decimator coupled thereto. Concurrently the demodulator complexity is also scaled back. Where the XDSL protocol is digital multi-tone (DMT) the input sample size to the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) engine is reduced accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2001Date of Patent: July 11, 2006Assignee: Ikanos Communication, Inc.Inventors: Sam Heidari, Raminder S. Bajwa, Behrooz Rezvani, Dale Smith, Prem Ramaswamy

Patent number: 7035326Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for demodulating data received over a communication medium carrying a transmission having multiple pilot tones with pilot data modulated thereon and message tones with message data modulated thereon and with the pilot tones and message tones frequency division multiplexed with respect to one another. In an embodiment of the invention the communication protocol utilized for modulation and demodulation is discrete multi tone (DMT). The invention allows message processing and equalizer training to proceed in parallel before equalizer training tables have been completed thus reducing the time associated with modem initialization. The apparatus in one embodiment of the invention includes on the receive path of a DMT or other multi-tone modem, a fast Fourier transform engine (FFT), a message processor, and a decoder. The FFT converts the received data from a time domain to a frequency domain.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2002Date of Patent: April 25, 2006Assignee: Ikanos Communication, Inc.Inventors: Sam Heidari, Mazen M. Patent number: 7028102Abstract: A presentation of a selected document, stored at a node of a network, is accomplished by means of a system essentially comprising a handheld device, a communication device for a presentation unit and a device that handles presentation requests. By operating the handheld device, a user is able to get a presentation unit specification from said communication device. This specification is then sent, together with an address to a selected document, to a device handling presentation requests. In this device the selected document is then converted to a format suitable for the presentation unit of said communication device, where the converted document is presented. The system could be using WAP-technology for sending information from the handheld device to the device that handles presentation requests and for accessing information on the Internet. Further the system could, for example, be using Bluetooth or IrDA for the communication between the handheld device and said communication device.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2000Date of Patent: April 11, 2006Assignee: Axis, ABInventors: Olof Larsson, Lennart Fagerberg
