  • Patent number: 6963603
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for minimizing frequency distortion in the transmit path of an XDSL modem implementing digital multi-tone (DMT) line code. The current invention provides a means for both determining and correcting for distortion in the frequency domain. The apparatus may be incorporated in an existing X-DSL architecture without additional circuitry. In an embodiment of the invention the apparatus may include a calibration phase which may be implemented using the existing analog-to-digital (ADC) conversion and demodulation capabilities on the receive path of the modem. This calibration phase takes place before the training phase associated with establishing communications with a remote site. During the calibration phase a calibration sequence with known spectral characteristics in the frequency domain is injected digitally at the beginning of the transmit path into each of the tone bins of the inverse Fourier Transform engine (IFFT).

  • Patent number: 6940807
Abstract: The current invention provides a DSP which accommodates multiple current X-DSL protocols and is further configurable to support future protocols. The DSP is implemented with shared and dedicated hardware components on both the transmit and receive paths. The DSP implements both the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) portions across a wide range of sample sizes and X-DSL protocols. Multiple channels, each with varying ones of the X-DSL protocols can be handled in the same session. The DSP offers the speed associated with hardware implementation of the transforms and the flexibility of a software only implementation. Traffic flow is regulated in the chip using a packet based schema in which each packet is associated with a specific channel of upstream and downstream data. Header and control information in each packet is used to govern the processing of each packet as it moves along either the transmit path or receive path.

  • Patent number: 6842429
Abstract: The current invention provides a digital signal processor which supports multiple X-DSL protocols and a multiplicity of channels on a single chip. Each channel is packetized and each packet includes control information for controlling the performance of the components/modules on the transmit and receive path. Further flexibility is derived from an architecture which incorporates discrete and shared modules on the transmit path and the receive path. The transmit path and receive path modules are collectively controlled by control information in selected ones of the packets and operate on each channel's packets at an appropriate rate, and protocol for the channel. A digital signal processor (DSP) is disclosed which incorporates these features. The DSP exhibits a favorable form factor, and flexibility as to protocols and line codes, and numbers of channels supported.

  • Patent number: 6813312
Abstract: A data storage and reduction method for digital images having a chronological order involves storing a first and chronologically new image or group of images at a first image quality requiring a first amount of storage space, and processing a second image or group of images, chronologically older than said first image or group of images, by reducing the image quality thereof to a second image quality requiring a second amount of storage space, which is less than said first amount of storage space. Advantageously, the method is used for a surveillance system, comprising a camera, a digital storage device and an image storage controller, wherein image quality is reduced for old or otherwise less important images or groups of images, thereby obtaining additional storage space for allowing more important images (such as images relating to an alarm event) to be stored at higher image quality, while retaining an extended total recording time span.

  • Patent number: 6760434
Abstract: A method and apparatus for coupling an xDSL transceiver with a subscriber line is disclosed. A hybrid circuit is disclosed which exhibits a different relative gain factor for transmitted signals and received signals. The difference in gain factors results in part from a combined balance circuit and transformer which exhibit a different coupling ratio between the primary and secondary coils on the receive path and the transmit path. The hybrid circuit may be used to isolate the receive signal from the transmit signal in the full duplex mode of operation. The gain from the transmit port to the receive port is minimum and most of the energy is transmitted to the subscriber line. In an embodiment of the invention a hybrid circuit for communicating a transmit signal and a receive signal across a subscriber line is disclosed. The hybrid circuit includes: a transformer and a balance circuit.

  • Patent number: 6731609
Abstract: A telephony system for conducting multimedia telephonic communications across a packet-based network is described between a caller system and an agent system through a software switch. The software switch receives from the caller system a packet representing a request to conduct a multimedia telephonic conference with an agent system. The switch exchanges packets with the caller system to establish a call with the caller system. The switch provides an application program interface to a telephony application program through which the telephony application program can control multimedia telephonic conferences between the caller and agent systems. The switch then processes the call according to the commands received through the application program interface from the telephony application program. In one embodiment, the application is an Automatic Call Distributor (ACD), which routes calls through the software switch.
