Abstract: A flexible thermal insulation panel in the form of a block of consolidated particulate microporous insulation material enclosed in a porous envelope. The block is bonded to the envelope by compression of the envelope to cause penetration of particles of insulation material at the surface of the block into pores of the envelope. The envelope comprises a stretchable material, at least in part. The consolidated block and the stretchable material of the envelope bonded thereto can be conformed to a non-planar surface with the stretchable material of the envelope remaining bonded to the block.
Abstract: A one-piece brace includes a body portion and a pair of elongate leg portions. The leg portions are joined to the body portion at areas of relative flexibility, which provide joints about which the leg portions can turn for displacement. The brace can be packaged and shipped in a compact configuration, and the leg portions can be spread in such manner so as to minimize their distortion and to maximize the level of reinforcement imparted to the implement on which the brace is installed.
Abstract: The electrostatic fluidized bed coating apparatus and system employ a vertically extending gaseous vortex of charged particles. Effects of variations in particle distribution, size, and electrostatic charge strength are minimized by the vertical orientation, enabling the production of coatings of exceptional uniformity. The apparatus is especially suited for construction to simultaneously coat a number of strands of wire or the like.
Abstract: The recursive profile generator of a general purpose position control system relies only upon current state and target state information in generating the path of movement for the armature of the servomotor. The profile generator employs a convergent algorithm for calculating the acceleration necessary to reach each control point or target position. By ignoring previous state information, the profile generator makes the use of reduced computing power possible and readily accommodates changing target state conditions.

Abstract: A collet-operating mechanism utilizes an array of wedge members for the transmission of closing force to the pressure collar. The wedge members are of flatted barrel-shaped configuration to optimally cooperate, in line contact relationships, with bearing surfaces on the pressure collar and the supporting sleeve member.

Abstract: An electric heater for arranging beneath a translucent cooking plate includes at least one electrical heating means, such as a ribbon, coil or filament lamp, in a housing comprising a base and a peripheral wall. Light indicator means is supported peripherally on the heater and visible, in operation, through the cooking plate. The light indicator means comprises an elongate light-emitting device at least partially surrounding the heater and arranged to emit light towards the underside of the cooking plate. Mask means is provided overlying the device and integral with the heater, the mask means being of a material substantially opaque to light from the device. The mask means has one or more apertures, different in configuration to the configuration of the device, through which one or more apertures light from the device is visible, viewed through the cooking plate.
Abstract: A frame for pictures and the like is assembled from pieces that are routed to have divergent channels in mutual communication. The divergent paths produce increasing levels of force upon the parallel engagement portions of the fastening peg as it is inserted more deeply into the common recess, and thereby generate increasing levels of compressive force across the joint between the frame pieces.
Abstract: Thermal insulating gaseous blankets, generated by contact of a quench liquid with a hot metal workpiece, are displaced from downwardly directed surfaces by sequentially elevating the workpiece, at points about its periphery, so as to promote migration of the trapped gas across such surfaces. The improved heat transfer that results increases the levels of hardness and strength exhibited by the treated workpiece.
Abstract: The adhesive formulation minimizes corrosion of copper surfaces (e.g., of motor commutators) caused by volatile ingredients of conventional acrylate compositions, and cure speeds are significantly increased thereover.
Abstract: A Gingival cord-packing instrument has an elongate handle, and opposite end sections for engaging the gingival cord. At least one of the end sections of the instrument constitutes a blade that is so dimensioned and configured as to enable gentle displacement of the gingiva from the adjacent tooth, for effective insertion of the cord. The end sections of the instrument will generally extend in opposite direction and in mutually parallel planes, lying obliquely to the handle axis, with the blades being so oriented as to cause grooves formed in their tip elements to extend in mutually perpendicular planes.
Abstract: The polymerizable acrylate formulation, and method utilizing the same, employ a catalyst system that includes a tertiary aromatic amine compound and an air-curing polyether-ene polymer, in a specified ratio, in combination with an acid ingredient and a transition metal that together form a coordination compound. The formulation cures through bulk, as well as on the surface, in a highly effective manner.
Abstract: A V-nail fastener has a leading edge that is partially formed with asymmetric sharpening, limited substantially to the central sections. Flange elements extend generally perpendicularly to the panel elements of which the central (V-shaped) portion is constructed and cooperate therewith to give the fastener a W-shaped overall profile. The lateral sections of the leading edge, which extend along the flange elements, are substantially devoid of sharpening, or are otherwise so formed as to permit the directional influence of the asymmetric sharpening to occur substantially undiminished.
Abstract: An acrylate composition, especially useful for producing conformal coatings on circuit board assemblies, includes a photoinitiator and an air-curing system, the latter being comprised of a compound having multiple allyloxy groups in its molecule and a transition metal salt catalyst. The composition is highly stable against auto-induced reaction in the absence of oxygen and at room temperature; it contains no active oxygen catalyst and no nonreactive diluent, and is advantageously formulated as a one-part product.
Abstract: An electrical heating element for a radiant electric heater takes the form of an elongate electrically conductive strip for partial embedding edgewise in a base of thermal and electrical insulation material. The strip is composed of an elongate continuous portion and an elongate discontinuous portion integral with the continuous portion. The discontinuous portion is intended for embedding in the base and is provided with a plurality of discontinuities so that in operation of the heater current flow in the discontinuous portion is reduced or eliminated.
Abstract: An array of superconducting bolometers, assembled with a superposed interference layer of graduated thickness, provides a microelectronic detector assembly that discriminates radiation impinging thereon, as a function of wavelength, and that can be used for transform spectroscopy, color-imaging, and the like. The interference coating will preferably be of step-like form, with each plateau of the structure being of the same spatial extent as the bolometer with which it is associated.
Abstract: The apparatus, system and method utilize sequential sprays of wet, low-temperature steam, and dry, high-temperature steam to clean the exterior of laminated objects as well as to effect volatilization of liquid contaminates trapped between lamina thereof. Water is injected into the conduit through which the low-temperature steam is delivered, so as to produce a desirable concentration of droplets therein. A conveyor moves the laminated objects along a horizontal path through zones in which they are sprayed by the low temperature and high temperature steam, and then through a zone in which they are electrostatically coated with powder.
