Abstract: A machine for cutting a sheet material incorporates a system for clamping the sheet material against an underlying support surface, which system employs linear arrays of clamp units, each unit including a separate clamping member having a head portion with a flat top surface and a peripheral element constructed to engage an edge portion of the sheet material. The clamping members are disposed in spaced relationship along marginal portions of the support surface, an actuator is proveded for effecting movement of the clamping members between release and clamp positions. Because of the construction of the clamping members, the top surfaces thereof will be substantially flush with the surface of the clamped material being cut, thus enabling a cutting head having an associated glide plate to pass thereover, in contact therewith, without substantial interference or impediment.
Abstract: A radiation-curable formulation employs an electrically conductive primary filler, comprised of elements of elongate form and having surfaces that reflect the actinic radiation to which the photoinitiator employed is responsive, and a secondary filler that is electrically semiconducting and is substantially transparent to the actinic radiation; silver-coated cylindrical fibers or rods will typically constitute the primary conductive filler. Solid deposits cured from the formulation may function, for example, as sealing elements, gaskets, solder joints, and coatings.

Abstract: A flexible electric heater comprises a heat resistant support (4) of sheet or tape form having at least one electrical resistance heating element (1) secured thereto. The at least one heating element comprises a ribbon (2) of electrical resistance material provided with a plurality of integral tabs (3). The tabs have been pressed through the support to secure the heating element to the support. The support (4) is flexible and comprises a woven fabric material, such as woven glass fabric or woven ceramic fabric, or a non-fibrous material, such as flexible mica.
Abstract: An electric heater unit is manufactured so as to form a base in a supporting dish by compacting powdered microporous insulation into the base. At least one electrical resistance heating element is supported on or adjacent to the base and a peripheral wall is formed in the supporting dish and integral with the base by compacting further microporous insulation material into the dish to a controlled compaction density. The compaction density of the peripheral wall may be different from that of the base, for example higher.
Abstract: A plastics molding includes an elongate flexible strip 3 and a plurality of substantially flat wall sections 5 disposed in an end-to-end, mutually spaced relationship, lying substantially on a smooth curve which meets the strip at opposite ends. The wall sections 5 are connected to the flexible strip at their opposite ends by means of webs 8, 9 such as to form trapezoidal ventilation passages 10 between the wall sections and the flexible strip. The webs may contain ventilation apertures. In different embodiments the molding may be curved such that the flexible wall lies on the inside or the outside. The inside wall is covered with a porous sweat band 12 and contains apertures 7 so that air flowing through the ventilation passages 10 keeps the sweat band dry by a wick effect. The outside wall is provided with a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive for attaching the device to the inside of the headgear.
Abstract: A fault detection and classification system for wafer etching, tool cleaning, and other fabrication processes employs exhaust gas composition data from a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer in addition to machine-state and other process-state data. Process control may be initiated based upon the classification of a fault.

Abstract: A single or multi-hulled sailing craft has a stub mast 5 upstanding from the hull. A sail 10 has a luff edge 11 secured to a luff boom 20 and a foot edge 12 secured to a foot boom 21 which is connected to the lower end of the luff boom. Part way along the luff boom 20 a pivotal fitting 22 connects the luff boom to the stub mast 5, and a rigid swing boom 26 is pivotally connected between the foot boom 21 and the hull or the stub mast. The fitting 22 can be moved up and down the stub mast 5 by means of a tilt sheet. The swing boom can be connected to a carriage which moves transversely of the hull. The sail is self-tacking and its position is positively controlled to prevent collision of the sail with the stub mast.
Abstract: A radiant electric heater (1) includes a heating element (4) and at least one covering sheet (7) spaced from the heating element. The at least one covering sheet is in the form of a fabric comprising glass filaments, ceramic filaments or metal filaments. Metal filaments, such as of a high temperature withstanding alloy, may be woven in the form of a fabric. Glass filaments, or ceramic filaments such as of alumino-silicate material, alumino-boro-silicate material or zirconia, may be of woven, knitted or mat form in the fabric. An apertured member (10) may be provided in contact with, or adjacent, to the covering sheet (7) of the fabric material.

Abstract: A digital image is captured from an imprint left at the scene of a crime with a predetermined reproduction ratio. Suitable capture apparatus comprises a digital camera 1 supported in a stand 2 above the image 3. The captured image is displayed on a computer screen, cropped to a predetermined size, and the co-ordinates of any unique identification features in the image are recorded in computer memory, preferably together with information on the size and nature of such features. The sets of co-ordinates are stored in a database and compared to identify similar sets of co-ordinates likely to originate from the same article. The data can also be compared with a second database of co-ordinate data taken from the footwear of known offenders in order to link crimes with offenders.

The clamping members are disposed in spaced relationship along marginal portions of the support surface, and an actuating device is providing for effecting movement of the clamping members between release and clamp positions. The cutting head utilizes a blade magazine-mounting slide, the travel of which is positively limited and which has a unique pin arrangement for facilitating the interchange of separate magazines adapted for specific cutting modes.

Silver-coated cylindrical fibers or rods will typically constitute the conductive filler, and solid deposits cured from the formulation may function as, for example, sealing elements, gaskets, and solder-like joints. In certain preferred embodiments the formulation will include an active oxygen free radical-generating catalyst, the presence of which enhances curing even though the reaction conditions are such that normal thermal catalysis temperatures are not attained.
Abstract: An implementation of sensor-driven run-to-run process control for semiconductor wafer fabrication integrates a robust, automated Fourier transform infrared reflectometer onto a wafer fabrication cluster tool. Cell controller software integrates an adaptive run-to-run controller, process tool recipe upload and download through a SECS port, sensor control, data archiving, and a graphical user interface.
