  • Patent number: 5839464
Abstract: A cartridge valve 116 includes a fixed disk 80 and a movable disk 118 mounted in a housing 66. A lever 46 extends through a major opening 72 axially located at one end of the valve 116. The lever 46 is attached to a coupler 130 for facilitating movement of the movable disk 118 relative to the fixed disk 80 to control the flow and temperature of water passing through the valve 116. A flexible valve 144 is attached to the coupler 130 and, in normal use of the valve 116, prevents holes 136 formed therethrough from communicating with a passage formed through the movable disk 118. Air from the environment surrounding the valve 116 can enter the major opening 72, and upon the occurrence of a negative pressure in the water supply, will flex the valve 144 to allow air to enter the supply line to negate the undesirable effects thereof. In another cartridge valve 160, holes 166 are formed through the side wall of the housing 66 to provide further air communication through the holes 136 of the coupler 130.

  • Patent number: 5833409
Abstract: A power tool (e.g. a laminate trimmer 10) includes an adjustable support for setting the position of the motor unit (16). The support includes a first collar element (24) secured to the motor and a support upright (14). A stud (32) threadedly secured to the collar is slidable in a slot (28) and co-operates with the slot (28) to maintain confronting surfaces (14a and 26a) of the elements in face to face engagement. The elements are thus constrained to slide only in a direction parallel to the upright (14). A clamping screw (36) threadedly engaged in the stud can be tightened to lock the adjustable support at a desired position. The arrangement provides high stability to permit adjustment of the motor position even when the motor is operating.

  • Patent number: 5832952
Abstract: A valve assembly 20 includes a housing or bonnet 22 and a stem 24. The valve assembly 20 further includes a thrust washer 26, an O-ring 28, a reversible stop 30 and a retainer 32. A coupler 34, a rotatable ceramic disk 36, a fixed ceramic disk 38 and a bottom seal 40 complete the components of the valve assembly 20. The rotatable disk 36 is assembled by a tight fit with the coupler 34 which, in turn is assembled with a drive bar 90 of the stem 24 by a tight fit. The assembled stem 24, coupler 34 and rotatable disk 36 are assembled within a bore 52 of the housing 22 with a shank portion 74 of the stem 24 extending outward from an opening 56 of the housing 22. The fixed disk 38 is assembled fixedly within the bore 52 of the housing 22 in facing engagement with the rotatable disk 36. The seal 40 is assembled within an opening 54 of the housing and is placed in sealing and retaining engagement with the fixed disk 38.

  • Patent number: 5813433
Abstract: A faucet 10 includes a brass support 42 mounted in a precise location in a housing 12 of the faucet. A slot 60 is formed in the brass support and receives a tab 64 of a color code ring 36 as the ring is positioned on top of a tower 18 of the housing 12 to properly locate the ring relative to the housing and to preclude rotation relative thereto. A shroud cover 19 is secured to the brass support 42 above the ring 60 to capture the ring between the cover and the top of the tower 18 and thereby preclude axial movement of the ring. Exterior surfaces 38 and 40 of the fixed ring 36 are formed with contrasting colors, such as "red" and "blue," which are clearly visible on opposite sides of the faucet 10. A handle 20 of the faucet 10 is located above the shroud cover 19 and is mounted for movement relative to the housing 12, the color code ring 36 and the shroud cover.

  • Patent number: 5718464
Abstract: A hub connection assembly 20 includes a hub 22 having a spout 28 extending therefrom. The assembly 20 further includes a trim nut 30 which is assembled with the hub 22 and also includes a split snap ring 32 which retains the hub with the trim nut. A lower section 26 of the hub 22 is formed with a outward facing annular recess 36 which receives a circular wall 74 of the ring 32. The ring 32 is also formed with an outward extending circular rib 68 which is located in an annular groove 48 formed in an inner circular wall of the trim nut 30. The wall 74 and the rib 68 of the ring 32 extend in a direction between the hub 22 and the trim nut 30 to maintain separation between the hub and the nut.

  • Patent number: 5715868
Abstract: A single-piece tube 20 is formed to include a hub 30 at first end 26 of the tube with a spout 44 extending from the hub to a second 28 of the tube. A tapered transition surface 38 extends between the hub 30 and the spout 44. A bevel 34 is formed at the base of the hub 30 on an outer surface 22 thereof adjacent the end 26 of the tube 20. An annular bead 36 is formed on the outer surface 22 of the hub 30 at a location spaced from the bevel 34 to define a space 46 between the bevel and the bead. A pair of bends 40 and 42 are formed in spaced portions of the spout 44. In another embodiment, an annular groove 50 is formed in the outer surface 22 of the hub 30 instead of the bevel 34 and the bead 36. An O-ring 48 can be located in the space 46 or the groove 50. The single-piece tube 20 formed with the hub 30 and the spout 44 can be assembled with a water mixing facility 56.

  • Patent number: 5671776
Abstract: An end body 34 is formed with a chamber 45 having a bevelled surface 62 and a cylindrical wall 60 in a portion thereof. A sleeve 46 is formed with an outward flange 48 at one end thereof and an annular bead 50 near another end 54 thereof. The sleeve 46 is formed with a press fit section 56 between the end 54 and the bead 50 thereof. The sleeve 46 is inserted axially into the chamber 45 of the end body 34 and the section 56 thereof is press fit into the cylindrical wall 60 of the end body with the bead 50 locating on the bevelled surface 62 of the end body. A valve 44 is threadedly attached to an end 58 of the end body 34 whereby a seal 64 of the valve engages the flange 48 of the sleeve 46. Water enters the end body 34 at the bottom thereof and flows into an axial passage 49 of the sleeve 46. If valve 44 is closed, the water will not flow any further. If the valve 44 is open, water will flow through the sleeve 46, the valve, the chamber 45 and out of the end body 34 to other facilities.
