  • Patent number: 5520049
Abstract: An acceleration responsive device 30 includes a support 34 which supports a rod 46 between two spaced portions of the support. A weighted disc 48 is mounted for movement on the rod and is held by a spring 128 at one end of the rod 46. An indicator 50 is also mounted for movement on the rod 46 adjacent disc 48. A tube 62 is coupled to support 34 to facilitate swinging movement of the device 30 where, due to the acceleration thereof, disc 48 is moved along rod 46 and pushes indicator 50 along the rod. When the swinging movement ceases, disc 48 is returned to the one end of rod 46 and indicator 50 remains at the position to which it was moved. A scale reading of a decal 89 adjacent the moved indicator 50 provides a indication of the acceleration attained during the swinging of device 30. This reading can be applied to a graph to assist the user of device 30 in the selection of golf clubs having a shaft stiffness most appropriate for the user.

  • Patent number: 5515615
Abstract: A device 22 for measuring the curvature of an object, such as a tapered shaft 24, includes a support plate 26 and a clamping mechanism 32 for supporting the shaft at one end 34 thereof a holding mechanism 60 retains an opposite end 78 of shaft 24 in a position such that the shaft is in a curved state. The curved state of shaft 24 can be attained by physically moving holding mechanism 60 or by placing a weight 80 on the mechanism. A first transducer 82 includes a slide 88 which is movable along a guide bar 86. A second transducer 98 includes slide 102 which is movable along a guide bar 100. Guide bar 100 is connected to slide 88 for movement therewith. A locator mechanism 114 is mounted on slide 102 for movement therewith and includes a pair of spaced pulleys 144 and 146 biasingly urged against opposite sides of shaft 24 and toward the axis thereof.

  • Patent number: 5509454
Abstract: A workpiece trimmer power tool (eg. a laminate trimmer 10) has a waste collector attachment (26) for collecting dust and other waste material generated by the trimmer in use. The attachment can be fitted in a first position (FIG. 2) adjacent to an edge of the trimmer base (12) adapted for trimming a workpiece face, or in a second position (FIG. 5) adjacent to the underside of the trimmer base (12) adapted for trimming an edge surface of a workpiece. The attachment (26) provides a handle surface, also a guard surface and a fence surface for controlling edge trimming. Skis can be attached to the trimmer base (12) for face trimming.

  • Patent number: 5505225
Abstract: A valve assembly 30 includes a pressure balancer 38 and a water mixing control element 150. Hot and cold water flow through pressure balancer 38 and a throttle plate 200 and into a mixing chamber 144 where selected amounts of the hot and cold water are mixed to a temperature level selected by a user. If the pressure of the cold water changes, the pressure balancer 38 responds and adjusts the amount of hot water flowing to the mixing chamber 144 to maintain the temperature of the mixed water as initially selected. If the cold water pressure fails, pressure balancer 38 responds and turns off the hot water to prevent scalding the user. Pressure balancer 38 responds in similar fashion to changes or failure in the pressure of the hot water.

  • Patent number: 5497932
Abstract: An impact stapler (100) includes an actuator mechanism (110) comprising a firing lever (180) pivotally mounted on a stapler housing (102) and operable by an operating lever (160) for raising a striker (112) against the bias of an actuator spring (240). The firing lever (180) has a front tip (190) which is positioned to engage a tab (272) on the striker (112) when the operating lever (160) is actuated to raise the striker (112) and which is shifted laterally to disengage the front tip (190) from the tab (272) to release the striker (112) for actuation by the actuator spring (240) after the striker (112) is raised. The impact stapler (100) includes a resilient finger (292) for shifting the firing lever (180) laterally to a rest position with the front tip (190) underneath the tab (272) on the striker (112).

  • Patent number: 5472010
Abstract: A fluid diverter controls water flow through a faucet assembly which includes a spout and a handspray. The diverter includes a housing and a shaft mounted therein for reciprocal movement, with a piston and a cup valve mounted on opposite ends of the shaft. When water is supplied to the faucet assembly and the handspray is turned off, water pressure builds up within a first compartment of the diverter between the piston and the cup valve such that the cup valve is moved off its seat to establish water flow through a first outlet passageway to the spout. When the handspray is operated, water from the interior of the diverter flows through a second outlet passageway leading to the handspray, and also into a second compartment on the opposite side of the piston. A differential pressure is achieved between the two compartments by providing a notch of a selected size in an annular rim portion of the housing at the second outlet passageway.
