  • Patent number: 4858176
Abstract: A distrbutor for the central execution pipeline unit of a central processor of a data processing system, which central processor has a plurality of execution units. The distributor serves as a communications center by which machine words, such as operands, are transmitted primarily from the cache unit of the central processor unit to execution units and the instruction fetch unit of the central processor unit. Some machine words are transmitted directly from the collector unit to selected units and others are transmitted after being stored in the data register of the distributor. Machine words stored in the data register can be realigned if required by an instruction by character or word alignment switches. The aligned words are then stored in the data register means prior to their being transmitted to units of the central processor.

  • Patent number: 4850724
Abstract: Control circuit for a dot matrix printing head of the permanent magnetic type or simple electromagnet type, wherein a printing element is subjected to a variable magnetic flux, owing to an energization current and/or to a movable armature movement, which causes an energization current to be established in the printing element for its actuation. The energization current is switched off for the deactivation of the printing element and which thereafter establishes a shorting path letting a current, induced in the printing element by mangetic flux changes due to the movable armature movement, to flow in the printing element, with a damping effect on the armature movement.

  • Patent number: 4831622
Abstract: In a data processing system, there is included a central processing unit (CPU) and a main memory for storing computer words, the CPU including a cache unit. In operation, the CPU requests that a computer word be fetched, the computer word to be fetched being identified by a real address location corresponding to a location where the predetermined computer word is stored in main memory. The CPU request to fetch the computer word is coupled through the cache unit such that the cache unit determines whether the computer word is stored within the cache unit. The cache unit comprises a cache for storing predetermined ones of the compter words. A directory is included for storing partial real address information to a corresponding computer word stored in the cache. A detecting element, operatively connected to the cache and to the directory, determines when a hit occurs without any errors.

  • Patent number: RE29356
Abstract: An ice chipper comprising a pair of cylindrical drums each mounted for counter-rotation about parallel, generally vertical axes. Each drum includes an outwardly rounded, disk shaped bottom surface and an auger flight spiraled helically about the outer cylindrical surface thereof. The auger flights each include a plurality of spaced, outwardly extending teeth to chip the ice abutting the front of the system. The chipper is mounted to the front of a tractor and each drum includes a hydraulic motor which is operated by a hydraulic pump also carried by the tractor. Rotation of the drums causes the auger teeth to chip the ice and tends to pull the drums forwardly while the auger flights carry the ice particles up and out away from the cleared area. Tilting the system forwardly and rearwardly upon the rounded drum bottom surfaces varies the depth of cutting in the vertical direction.
