  • Patent number: 4696144
Abstract: A container capper is provided which includes a container clamping mechanism for clamping previously-filled containers at a capping station that is positioned at a point along a container conveying means. The capper also includes an adjustable speed rotary motor which drives a capper head having a plurality of radially movable, cap-grasper jaws supported therein for grasping caps and rotating them relative to the containers. Motor speed adjustability and torque sensing are provided to give precise control of the amount of torque with which caps are applied to containers. The capper head is vertically movable from an upper, cycle start, position to an intermediate position, at which the jaws thereof may be loaded with a cap, and to a lower position, at which the loaded cap is placed onto the top of a clamped container and is rotated thereon until a predetermined torque is reached. The capper head is moved between its upper, intermediate and lower positions by means of a camming mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4632665
Abstract: A toothed, positive drive, power transmission belt of the type having an endless substantially inextensible tensile member to which are secured belt teeth having a curvilinear cross-section and covered by an outer non-stretch fabric cover. In the body of each tooth is a layer of fabric reinforcement separated from the outer cover fabric of the belt tooth and of the land region between belt teeth by a cushion layer of elastomeric material of varying thickness so that the outer tooth portions are free to flex while the inner portion of the tooth is reinforced against shear. The resulting construction provide belts having substantially longer belt life than conventional belts at relatively high horsepower application.

  • Patent number: 4613087
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting scrap tires and other waste products is disclosed. The apparatus includes a frame having a cylindrical anvil roll rotatably mounted therein. A pair of blade rolls are also mounted in the frame for rotation about corresponding axes which are parallel to the rotational axis of the anvil roll, the blade rolls being angularly spaced from one another relative to the axis of the anvil roll and being positioned about the periphery of the anvil roll. The blade rolls are each provided with a plurality of blades of predetermined diameter fixed thereto and rotatable therewith, the blades of one blade roll being at a low angle to the axis of that roll and the blades of the other blade roll being at a high angle to the axis of that roll, so that a tire passing between both blade rolls and the anvil roll will be cut into rhomboidal pieces that are nearly rectangular in shape during a single pass through the apparatus.

A blade roll is also mounted in the frame for rotation about an axis parallel to the rotational axis of the anvil roll, and a plurality of axially spaced roller blades of predetermined diameter are fixed to the blade roll and rotatable therewith. The blade roll is also provided with a pair of axially spaced thrust wheels, with the thrust wheels being positioned outboard of the blades and being equal to or slightly greater in diameter than the predetermined diameter of the blades. Driving means are provided in the apparatus for rotating the anvil roll and the blade roll in opposite directions in such a manner that scrap tires fed to the rolls will be drawn inwardly into the nip formed between the rolls and will be cut between the blades and the anvil.

  • Patent number: 4545735
Abstract: The pump has a pumping chamber with a deflectable diaphragm member and fluid inlet and outlet passages. A deflectable valve flap is disposed across the fluid inlet passage and another flexible valve flap is disposed across the fluid outlet passage. Movement of the flexible valve flaps is responsive to movement of the flexible diaphragm member, reciprocation of which establishes alternate sequential suction and discharge conditions. An air chamber provided in the pump receives outside air through an air vent opening and also communicates with the pump discharge passage through a bleed hole when the outlet passage is closed by the outlet valve flap. The outlet valve flap is also deflectable to a position where it closes the bleed hole. Under this arrangement, continuous siphoning of fluid through the pump after the pump has been shut down is obviated.

  • Patent number: 4515577
Abstract: A flexible power transmission belt having a plurality of teeth each of which has a pair of arcuate convex flank portions which in longitudinal cross-section closely approximate to an arc of a circle. Each tooth exhibits a height to width relationship within a predetermined range, and the arcuate flanks each have a pressure angle within a predetermined range. The belt is preferably used in combination with a toothed pulley whose teeth are substantially conjugate to the belt teeth and whose cavities between the teeth have a height to width relationship within another predetermined range and have concave flanks exhibiting a pressure angle in still another predetermined range, said belt tooth width being approximately 0.98 of the pulley cavity width so as to provide a high torque positive drive power transmission system having minimum backlash.
