  • Patent number: 4126969
Abstract: Storage means receives a particulate material and conduit means are provided for receiving an inert pressurized fluid medium. The conduit means is connected with a conduit such as a pipeline to be cleaned and includes by-pass conduit means for communicating a portion of the inert pressurized fluid medium into the storage means to maintain the particulate material under predetermined pressure. Branch conduit means connected to the conduit means communicates with the storage means for receiving particulate material therefrom and discharging it along with the inert pressurized fluid medium from the inert pressurized fluid medium conduit into the pipeline to be cleaned. Moveable barrier means are mounted in the pipeline against which the inert pressurized fluid medium and the particulate material is propelled. The barrier means includes a deflector for impinging such particulate material against the interior of the conduit thereof.

  • Patent number: 4126113
Abstract: An air starter includes a housing having a rotatable shaft extending longitudinally thereof. A gear is connected in a longitudinally extending helical groove on the shaft so that when the gear is moved along the shaft it engages an engine flywheel whereby the flywheel may be rotated by an air motor connected to the shaft. Piston means surround the shaft and sealably and slidably engage within a cylinder formed in the housing and the housing is provided with inlet and exhaust air passages for conducting air to the cylinder and discharging air therefrom. First spring means abut the piston means and the housing to urge the piston means to a first position in the housing. Annular means extend into the helical groove on the shaft and is arranged to rotate with the gear, therebeing second spring means between the gear and said annular means to retain said annular means disengaged from the gear when the piston means is in the first position.

  • Patent number: 4116284
Abstract: An earth auger arrangement wherein a power source is mounted on wheels for moving the power source over the earth's surface with means connected to the power source for relaying power to a transmission with which an auger is connected. Handle means are connected to the transmission for manually positioning the auger in relation to the earth's surface to penetrate it at a desired angle with throttle means on the handle means to control the power source. Shaft means are pivotally connected to and extend between the power source and the handle means to reduce counter rotation or counter torque from being exerted on the operator when the auger is rotated to penetrate the earth.

  • Patent number: 4109736
Abstract: A double acting jar includes inner and outer telescopically arranged tubular parts movable longitudinally, but nonrotatable relative to each other. Cooperating means on the inner and outer telescopically arranged tubular parts deliver an upward jar to a stuck drill string upon relative longitudinal movement of the inner and outer telescopically arranged tubular parts in one direction and deliver a downward jar to a stuck drill string upon relative longitudinal movement of the inner and outer telescopically arranged tubular parts in the other direction. The cooperating means is constructed and arranged to be disengaged and maintained in an inoperative relationship when the drill string is in tension and compression during rotary drilling operations. When the jar is effected by a hydraulic jarring arrangement, fluid meter means incorporates a temperature responsive, compensating means to maintain substantially uniform flow rates through the metering means at varying temperature conditions.

  • Patent number: 4106565
Abstract: A tubular member is provided with seals thereon for sealing in a liner receptacle supported in a well string in a well bore. Expandable seal means are provided on the tubular member with actuating means for expanding the expandable members into engagement with the well string above the receptacle, and releasable retaining means engage the actuating means with the tubular member to retain the actuating means in a non activated position until the releasable retaining means are actuated. Additional means secure the actuating means on the tubular member to inhibit premature release of the releasable retaining means as the seal nipple packer is lowered through the well string to be positioned in the receptacle. Slip segments are releasably connected to an expander cone, with both being mounted on the tubular member in longitudinal spaced relation to the actuating means at the other end of the expandable seal means.

  • Patent number: 4098532
Abstract: A pipe lay down machine which incorporates a main cable adapted to be rigged from the rig floor to a winch overlying a pipe rack where the winch is bidirectionally operable to slack the main line. Wheeled carriages travel up and down the main line. The carriages support releasable pipe connective mechanisms which have a flexible cable extending around the pipe connected to a quick release mechanism. The quick release mechanism includes a transverse bar having protruding ears or tabs which interlock with a rolled lip, thereby anchoring the lever and the end of the cable. Pipe is picked up or laid down by placing slack in the main cable. The carriages traverse the main cable by means of separate winches which apply power to auxiliary lines rigged from winches which are bidirectionally operable to the carriages.Alternative quick release mechanisms are disclosed. In one form, a cable is looped about the pipe and beneath a spring load pin. The pin is pushed to close and cable tension holds it closed.
