Abstract: A longitudinally extending body is provided with a longitudinally extending slot or opening. A hollow tubular member is secured adjacent one end of the body and is provided with a slot across its end which coincides with the slot in the body. Reed means are secured at one end to the body and extend longitudinally of the slot in the body and the tubular member, with the reed means having a portion extending laterally therefrom adjacent the hollow tubular member for manual vibration of said reed means relative to said body and member. The other end of the hollow tubular member is open to be positioned adjacent the mouth of the user for providing desired notes and tonal effects when the reed is manually vibrated. Clamp means on the body are movable longitudinally therealong for engagement with the reed at a predetermined or selected position to vary the length of the reed and thereby the pitch of the notes created by the vibration of the reed means.

  • Patent number: 3998443
Abstract: A housing with a mandrel therein is adapted to be connected in a rotary drill string. The housing and mandrel are constructed and arranged to support the work load of the rotary drill string as well as dissipate both longitudinal and radial impact or shock loads that the drill string may encounter. The construction also includes means whereby radial impacts applied to the drilling assembly are connected or translated into longitudinal components of force so that various combinations of longitudinal and/or radial impact or shock loading of the drill string may be dissipated in a manner to inhibit damage to the drill string and its components.

  • Patent number: 3993128
Abstract: A tubular mandrel is provided with outer housing means slidable thereon. Slip segments are formed on the outer housing means and a cone shaped enlargement is formed on the mandrel. Segmented cone means is slidably mounted on the mandrel between the mandrel and outer housing means. Cooperating latch means including a J-shaped slot in the outer housing means receive lug means positioned on the mandrel. Bow spring means on the housing means engage the well bore casing as the tool is lowered into the well bore to position the lug in the J-slot so as to inhibit relative longitudinal and rotational movement between the mandrel and outer housing means. When the mandrel is moved in the other direction in the well bore casing and rotated, the outer housing is restrained by the bow spring means engagement with the well bore casing.
