  • Patent number: 4469497
Abstract: A separator for separating particles carried in a fluid carrying medium is disclosed. The separator includes an elongated duct and associated openings incorporated in a solid body. The duct is axisymmetrical relative to its longitudinal axis, and includes a curved wall portion having a curved cross-section taken along the longitudinal axis. An axisymmetrical opening located downstream of the curved wall portion leads from the duct into an axisymmetrical channel which is substantially radially disposed relative to the longitudinal axis. Continuation of the duct downstream of the opening is a discharge portion which is substantially colinear with the longitudinal axis. In operation, a substantial majority of the fluid carrying medium leaves the duct radially through the opening and channel in a state substantially free of particles.

  • Patent number: 4464309
Abstract: A mass of energy transfer device is disclosed which is adapted for intermixing a liquid and a gas phase for the purpose of mass, heat or kinetic energy transfer between the phases. The transfer device includes a plurality of individual substantially tubular mixing elements each of which receives a high velocity spray of the liquid phase for substantially longitudinal travel therein and draws the gas phase into a throat and diffuser through a substantially axisymmetrical opening. The mixing elements are mounted into an enveloping vessel the interior of which is in fluid communication with a source of the gas phase. Efficiency of the device is disclosed to depend exponentially on the ratio of the momentum range of the liquid spray to the throat diameter which is related to the ratio of the slip velocity of the liquid and gas to the velocity of the gas.

  • Patent number: 4461484
Abstract: An entrapment assembly for use in a flying disc golf game. The entrapment assembly in one of its embodiments comprises an upright post mounted in the ground. An upwardly opening basket is mounted on the post and a plurality of outside chains are mounted on the post so that the lower ends thereof extend into the basket. The outside chains serve to absorb kinetic energy from a disc thrown against the assembly and thereby reduces its forward velocity. A disc deflection surface, such as a group of inside chains, extend outwardly and upwardly from a location adjacent the top of the basket to deflect the disc toward the basket after it has impacted the outside chains to ensure that the disc is caught in the basket.

  • Patent number: RE31656
Abstract: An internal combustion engine performance analyzing system is disclosed for displaying a number of operating characteristics, such as engine ignition and cylinder power, which exists under selectively controlled operating conditions. Simple connections to the engine provide the necessary signals to the solid-state electronic analyzer. Various pattern display modes may be selected. An anticipatory cylinder fire signal, which is related to crankshaft rotational degrees, permits a given cylinder to be shorted for the desired interval, regardless of the engine speed. This anticipatory cylinder fire signal is obtained from a servoed ramp waveform generator. Individual cylinder waveform patterns are synchronously and simultaneously displayed on an oscilloscope.
