  • Patent number: 8245578
Abstract: The bands and corners of rectangular or other geometric shapes for binary code symbols are used to measure non-linear and non-uniform strain in a material with an anomaly such as a crack in the area of strain measurement. In particular, they can be used to evaluate differential strains in the regions of the bands and corners; and the external and internal boundaries can be used to measure differentials in strain between the external boundaries and internal boundaries.

  • Patent number: 8245667
Abstract: A liquid nectar hummingbird feeder has a reusable base with a feeding basin that receives a disposable cartridge containing a pre-filled volume of liquid nectar. The cartridge has a single bottleneck opening at a lower end which is initially sealed by a breakable seal in the form of a film layer of foil, coated paper stock, plastic or the like. The base includes a cartridge mounting and opening structure adapted to secure and open the cartridge bottleneck opening by rupturing the film layer seal to allow liquid nectar to flow from the cartridge into the feeding basin.

  • Patent number: 8241237
Abstract: A system and device for monitoring pressure in a blood line. In such device, a pressure transducer line branches off a blood line to enable the connection of a pressure transducer. To avoid any contamination of the pressure transducer, a first pressure transducer protector filter is used that divides the pressure transducer line into a blood line section between the blood line and the filter, and a pressure transducer section between the filter and the pressure transducer. A sensor is provided for detecting the presence of liquid in the pressure transducer section of the pressure transducer line so as to provide a system by which an unnoticed failure of the first pressure transducer protector filter in a pressure transducer line is avoided as well as a device that can easily be re-used.

  • Patent number: 8242789
Abstract: A plasma system (1) has a circuit including a DC source (6), a power supply line (9), an electrodes (2, 3), and a return line (18). A perturbation signal source (8) delivers a perturbation signal into the circuit in addition to DC voltage from the DC source (6). Acquisition (10) and analysis (11) systems measure response to the perturbation. The analysis system (11) measures variation in impedance of the circuit and phase between voltage and current in the circuit. It also uses a frequency domain reflectrometry technique to measure signal reflection modulus of a supply line of the circuit over a defined frequency range.

  • Patent number: 8241183
Abstract: A therapeutic training device includes a shallow housing of a specific shape with a quadratic top surface, a quadratic bottom surface and four thin rectangular side surfaces. The housing includes an upwardly open cavity in the top surface and a flexible and transparent cover which encloses the cavity at least partially. The flexible and transparent cover has a size in the range between the size of a human fist and the size of a human foot, and defines a central part. The housing further includes a force sensor placed inside the cavity communicating with the central part. The force sensor measures the force applied on the flexible and transparent cover and generates a response signal.

  • Patent number: 8238038
Abstract: Zoom lens for SLR digital cameras. The lens is at least 75 degrees wider in field angle at the wide-angle end, about 3 to 4 in f-stops at the wide-angle end and approximately 6 to 7 at the telephoto end, and about a 15:1 zoom range. Four groups of lens pieces exert positive, negative, positive, and positive refractivities from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end as a result of the 1st and 2nd lens groups being split more, the 2nd and 3rd lens groups coming closer to each other, and the 3rd and 4th lens groups also coming closer to each other. The 3rd lens group has the leading set of lens pieces closer to objects and the trailing set of lens pieces can be orthogonal to the optical axis to compensate for defocus in the imaging plane. The 2nd lens group is displaced closer to objects for focusing.

  • Patent number: 8233410
Abstract: A telephone system that allows multiplexing and demultiplexing plural group calls through simple operations is provided. The telephone system includes a conference trunk creating unit that creates a conference trunk as required and has a multiplexing/demultiplexing special number table prestoring a multiplexing special number and demultiplexing special number corresponding to plural group calls. After plural group calls start, if the multiplexing special number is input, a control unit causes the conference trunk creating unit to create a large-conference trunk, switches and connects the voices of plural group calls corresponding to the multiplexing special number to the large-conference trunk and starts the multiplexed group call.

  • Patent number: 8230641
Abstract: A cage type animal trap having an enclosure with an animal access opening into a vacant interior sized to receive an animal to be trapped. The access opening is closed by a door that is movable from a closed to an opened position by an actuating mechanism having a flexible actuating member with one end secured to the door and the other end releasably held by a latch mechanism. The latch mechanism is configured to move the door to the opened position by tensioning the actuating member and, in response to a trigger mechanism, to release the second end of the actuating member and allow the door to move from the opened position to the closed position thereby trapping the animal in the animal enclosure. A door lock in abutment with the outer surface of the door prevents the door from being opened by a trapped animal. A part of the actuating mechanism is in engagement with the door lock when the door is closed such that the door lock is automatically disengaged when the actuating member is tensioned.
