Abstract: A non-intrusive and quantitative method and apparatus for diagnosing sleep apnea and detecting apnea events by monitoring during sleep abdominal effort and thoracic effort, determining the phase of each effort, determining the difference in phase between each type of effort, and then determining the rate of phase angle change and standard deviation over time. Also provided may be treatment when apnea events are detected to trigger therapy apparatus such as airway positive pressure apparatus.

Abstract: Improved mechanical structure for increased efficiency in the transfer of the peddling force applied to a pedal crank assembly to the rear wheel of a bicycle is disclosed. This structure increases efficiency by decreasing the loss of exerted energy when peddling at dead spots, which dead spots are the common terminology used to refer to when the legs are either at down-stroke and up-stroke positions.
Abstract: Pulse width modulated (“Class D”) amplifiers and controllers switching in the 50 khz to 2 MHz range generate harmonics that interfere with AM radio reception. This interference has precluded wide spread acceptance of class D amplifiers in products that include an AM radio. The amplifier described here uses a a harmonic avoidance modulator when operating with an AM radio to avoid generating harmonics at the receiver selected frequency or the intermediate (IF) frequency thereof.

Abstract: An ion beam deposition target source consisting of a removable, centrally located inner insert surrounded by an outer region. The insert can be removed and replaced when eroded, while the outer region of the target source not eroded by the ion beam remains in place attached to a backing plate. The inner insert and the outer region are joined to each other by an interface comprising an interlocking lip or grove structure located on opposing mating surfaces on the inner insert and outer region, thereby forming the deposition target source when these components are united. The deposition target source can be attached by a bonding layer to a backing plate which is installed into an ion beam deposition machine.

Abstract: A fire-resistant container for use as a safe, formed of steel and lined on its inner surface with a composition comprising insulative and intumescent materials, preferably mineral wool insulation and hydrated sodium silicate fiberboard, respectively. Preferably, an air space is also provided between the fire-resistant materials and the wall. A hinged door of the container is fitted with fire-resistant materials in similar fashion to the container walls, and the door's jamb is gasketed in intumescent material. Within the container, an inner wall is formed of a fire-resistant material such as gypsum board. The aforementioned fire-resistant container meets Underwriters Laboratories Standard 72 and is suitable for storage of paper documents, firearms, and other valuables.
