Abstract: A periodontal scaler or currette having a shaft offset from the handle at an angle of 28.degree. to 32.degree. and a shank, which is offset back toward the central axis of the handle at an angle of 32.degree. to 34.degree. and a length equal to or 2.5 times greater than the shaft, ending in a curved blade in a plane orthogonal to the plane of the handle, shaft and shank.

Abstract: A mutant species of Lipomyces starkeyi ATCC No. 12659 capable of hyperproducing dextranase and an improved method of culturing to achieve such at low pH to provide biologically contaminant free supernatant liquid containing dextranase. The further improved method of culturing the mutant species on a non-dextran, assimilable carbon source with optimal dextran induction is also disclosed.

Abstract: A magnetically driven generator/motor for producing singly or simultaneously mechanical and electrical energy outputs, having a housing including circular frame members with electromagnet drivers about corresponding driven magnets attached to at least one rotating stage fixed to a drive shaft and also carrying field coils, at least one counter rotating stage, bearing mounted to the drive shaft with peripheral driven magnets and armatures which produce electricity when rotated past the field coils.

Abstract: This invention relates to a secondary battery comprised of a polymer film, and first and second collector plates. The polymer film comprises a polymer, a plasticizer for the polymer, an epoxidized vegetable oil, graphite and a salt disassociatingly solubilized by the plasticizer. The salt has the formula MX.sub.a, wherein X is chloride, bromide or iodide, M is a metal ion having a reduction-oxidation potential greater than that of X and a is the oxidation number of M.

Abstract: An improved one-piece metal jacket for insulated pipe elbows, bends and/or turns having a central metal spine spaced apart along which a plurality of opposed pairs of metal fingers extend sufficiently to overlap, longitudinally and traversely forming a weatherproof covering and fasteners to hold the fingers in place.

Abstract: A street sign adaptor unit and a street sign assembly for allowing use of standard V-notch perforate or cylindrical metal fence or highway sign posts to be used with standard sign panels for intersecting streets in which the adaptor unit has a varied cross-section to accommodate attachment and fixation with standard fasteners and without expensive conversion apparatus to both types of post and to sign panels.

Abstract: A double mechanical split seal for easy repair or replacement and with low leakage in hard duty slurry service including two pairs of seal ring assemblies - one stationary and the other rotating - urged together about a shaft by a biasing spring, a drive for the rotating pair, a housing assembly for the seal ring assemblies having fluid pressurizing apparatus so that the tapered seal ring inserts are urged into sealing relation.

Abstract: A process for preparing 5-aroylpyrrole compounds and recovering them from crude solutions by extracting with a mixed organic extractant such as an aromatic hydrocarbon-alkanol mixture followed by aqueous extraction with a base, decolorizing, and recovering the 5-aroylpyrrole compound for final purification.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of alkyl 1,4-dimethyl-3-ethoxycarbonylpyrrole-2-acetate compounds by reacting in a solvent in diloweralkyl acetone dicarboxylate, a chloromethyl lower alkyl ketone and an aqueous loweralkylamine in the presence of solids formation inhibiting amount of a lower alkanol having from 1 to about 6 carbon atoms.

Abstract: Pyrryl-2-acetonitriles corresponding to the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 stands for hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms prepared from dialkyl-(pyrryl-2-methyl)-amine corresponding to the formula ##STR2## in which R.sub.1 is defined as above and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 stand for alkyl groups having 1-4 carbon atoms, are alkylated with alkyl halides such as methyl chloride or methyl bromide to form the corresponding trialkyl-(pyrryl-2-methyl)-ammonium chloride quaternary salts and then reacted with an aqueous solution of alkali cyanide in the presence of a water-immiscible solvent under conditions which provide more economical utilization of reactants and process equipment.

Abstract: A water pump system having a float and underwater intake with discharge into an increasingly sized series of consecutive pipes, open to the water body, for entraining additional water with that expelled from the discharge to provide a high volume, low rate and pressure water mover and a method of aquaculture employing the system.
