Abstract: A process for the resolution of racemic acyl-D,L-alkyl substituted alkanoic acids with an organoamine resolving agent, such as "Amine D," in a suitable solvent such as an alcohol or aqueous alcohol and recovery of the desired acylated D-alkyl substituted alkanoic acid.
Abstract: Production of optically pure N-acyl-D-phenylalanine ester by reacting a racemic mixture of N-acyl-D,L-phenylalanine ester with a proteolytic enzyme and separating the resulting N-acyl-D-phenylalanine ester from the solution with subsequent removal of the N-acyl and ester groups to provide D-phenylalanine.
Abstract: Production of optically pure D-leucine and L-leucine ester by treating a racemic mixture of N-acyl-D,L-leucine ester with a proteolytic enzyme and separating the resulting N-acyl-L-leucine and N-acyl-D-leucine ester from the solution with subsequent removal of the N-acyl and ester groups to provide L-leucine and D-leucine, respectively.
Abstract: A process for purification of dialkyl phosphorochloridothioate by contacting a crude material containing oxygenated phosphorus compound impurities with an alcohol and separating the product dialkyl phosphorochloridothioate from the reaction product, for example, by distillation.

Abstract: An improved apparatus for insulating outside water faucets during cold weather including a rigid eliptical plastic shell, an end seal and a fastening means which is a two-piece pawl and ratchet type fastener having the pawl in a separate retainer and the ratchet on a strap with a loop in one end so that the end seal is fixed over the pipe extending from a wall, the strap is placed through a slot in the shell and through the retainer and the looped end hooked over the faucet, then the strap is held in one hand and the retainer and shell are pushed tight to the wall placing the strap under tension, the shell and end seal in sealing relationship with each other and the wall until released by depressing the pawl.
Abstract: A process for selective bromination of alkyl heterocyclic compounds, such as alkyl thiophenes, by reacting with a brominating agent in a solvent using infrared light as an initiator.
Abstract: A two-piece coping for a swimming pool comprising an edge piece and a cover piece. The edge piece includes a base plate for fastening to the top of a pool wall, an opening for receiving a pool liner, an opening for pivotally engaging the cover piece, and means on the base plate for engaging fastening means on the cover piece. The cover piece includes means for pivotally engaging the edge piece and means for fastening the cover piece to the fastening means on the base plate of the edge piece.
Abstract: A method for preparing 4-(hydroxymethyl)-imidazoles from crude solutions containing bis-imidazole ethers by hydrolyzing in dilute solution at elevated temperatures.
Abstract: An alignment indicator clamp apparatus for aligning the working shafts of a motor and a piece of equipment in order to couple them together having shaft engaging members connected by a cable passing through the shaft engaging members and through a cable tightening mechanism and having at least one indicator mounting post.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for instructing baseball players in the proper manner of catching a ground ball. The player wears on his hand a rigid flat plate having the general outline of a baseball fielder's glove. When a ground ball strikes the plate, the fielder must use the proper two-handed fielding technique of trapping the ball with the throwing hand against the plate.
Abstract: Preparation of high cyclic phosphonitrilic halide, preferably chloride, oligomer mixtures by reaction of phosphorus trichloride, chlorine and ammonia at temperatures from 65.degree. to 180.degree. C. in which the reactants are simultaneously fed to an agitated inert solvent at a rate such that the phosphorus trichloride concentration is at most stoichiometric relative to the chlorine and ammonia concentration and such that petroleum ether insoluble phosphonitrilic chloride formation is suppressed, and recovering the cyclic phosphonitrilic halide oligomer mixture without extracting petroleum ether insoluble materials since these are not produced.
Abstract: A process for acylating pyrrole compounds comprising reacting an aroyl halide with the pyrrole compound in the presence of an alkyl aluminum halide. Such acylated pyrrole derivatives are useful as intermediates for the preparation of anti-inflammatory agents and as synthetic intermediates.

Abstract: Thioalkyl aniline compounds, useful as chemical intermediates, for example in the preparation of anthelmintic, antibacterial and fungicidal benzimidazole compounds, are prepared by reaction of thiocyano aniline compounds with an alcohol in the presence of an alkali metal cyanide and alternatively an alkyl halide together with a dipolar aprotic solvent; an alkyl halide together with a water-immiscible solvent, a phase transfer catalyst, and the use of aqueous alkali metal cyanide; or an alkyl halide, a water-immiscible solvent and a polymer bound phase transfer catalyst.
Abstract: A process for producing citric acid by fermentation employing the species Candida lipolytica and using a mixed carbon source as the nutrient medium in which a carbohydrate is used as a fermentation initiator and an organic acid or salt thereof is used as the primary nutrient medium so that a high ratio of citric to isocitric acid is produced and maximum productivity maintained.
Abstract: A flame resistant substrate composed of cotton and flame retardant polyester fibers having a flame retardant affixed thereto and a method for increasing the flame resistance of a substrate composed of cotton and polyester fibers.
Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of O,O-dialkyl phosphorochloridothioates in which distillation to recover substantially pure product is carried out in presence of a solubilizing or suspending agent, for example, liquid hydrocarbons, particularly aromatics having at least 10 carbon atoms which have good sulfur solubility, higher boiling point than the product and are inexpensive; specifically, naphthalenes are useful.
