  • Patent number: 4840610
Abstract: A method for forming a thermoplastic film handled bag comprising: forming a continuous collapsed thermoplastic tube having heat seal lines across the width of said tube at bag length intervals, longitudinally folding opposite sides of the heat sealed tube equally towards each other until they meet at a common center line, folding the structure once again in the same direction along said center line and removing eight film layers in one of the corner regions defined by a heat seal line and the spine of the common center line fold, the film removal yielding a bag mouth opening and single loop handles at near the opposite ends of said bag mouth opening. Interconnected bags can be formed into a roll pack or individually severed bags can be unitized into a bag pack.

  • Patent number: 4619638
Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming one or more pleats in a continuously advancing sheet of indeterminate length are provided. The apparatus includes a first roll, over which the sheet passes while a streak of adhesive is laid upon a selected strip of the sheet, and a composite roll, to which the sheet passes as a reach under selectively varied tension. The composite roll includes a parallel roll and an inclined roll which is inclined at a pleat angle to the parallel roll and is driven by rolling contact with the parallel roll while passing through a pinch zone at the apex of the pleat angle which is 0.25.degree. to 5.degree., preferably about 1.5.degree.. The periphery of the inclined roll may vary from a right circular cylinder to a right circular cone with its peripheral surface at a bevel angle to the circular side thereof. The bevel angle is preferably one half of the pleat angle.

  • Patent number: 4611350
Abstract: A sack of a thermoplastic film comprising an open mouth region, a body region and a closed bottom region, said body region having at least one cold-stretched, circumferential band of reduced diameter therein. The method of forming such a sack comprising providing a sack of thermoplastic film; folding said bag at least once longitudinally so that the fold line is at least generally at right angles to the bag mouth opening; and at ambient temperature, applying a stretching force within at least one comparatively narrow band region across the folded bag, said stretching force being sufficient to neck-down the plastic film to a reduced diameter in relation to the original diameter of said bag.
