  • Patent number: 4973171
Abstract: A plastic bag, such as a trash bag or the like, of linear low density polyethylene or a blend of low density polyethylene and low density polyethylene has a closure portion along its open end. The closure portion is of a plastic having dead fold properties, such as oriented high density polyethylene or polystyrene. The bag can be closed by twisting the closure portion. The dead fold property of the closure portion will maintain the twisted condition of the closure portion to maintain the bag closed.

  • Patent number: 4966546
Abstract: A thermoforming oven for the convection heating of a continuous web of a thermoplastic foam or film material which is being advanced through the oven towards a thermoformer. Moreover, there is disclosed to a method for the improved and more uniform convective heating of a thermoplastic foam or film material which is advanced through a thermoforming oven. A countercurrent flow of a gaseous heating medium is regulated and directed so as to impart the greatest degree of uniformity of temperature thereto during heating and blow-up to the thermoplastic material being advanced in an intermittent manner through the convective oven.

  • Patent number: 4961684
Abstract: Method of sequentially removing articles from a stack of nested articles and for controlling their movement to a location remote from the stack. The method is particularly suited for denesting and feeding large multiple cell cartons such as eighteen cell cartons to a conveyor for subsequent printing. The cartons are placed in a vertical stack and the stack of nested cartons is supported by a set of rotary brushes on opposite sides at the bottom of the stack. The cartons are preseparated and sequentially fed by a second set of rotary brushes from the bottom of the stack to a denesting station. The height of the stack of cartons at the denesting station is sensed by a photoelectric eye for controlling the rotation of the sets of brushes and the feed of cartons to the denesting station. A pair of counter-rotating feed screws having multiple operating sections denest the cartons at the denesting station and sequentially feed them to a conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4927574
Abstract: An apparatus for the production of a tubular thermoplastic film, and more particularly, a water bath film cooling apparatus for the rapid quenching of an extruded tubular thermoplastic film so as to enhance the speed of cooling thereof, and increase the strength of the film material. Also disclosed is a method of rapidly cooling a thermoplastic film material through the intermediary of a water bath, utilizing the inventive cooling apparatus. A predetermined internal pressure is maintained within the tube by a gaseous medium, such as air, which is slightly higher than the external pressure imparted to the film tube by the water bath, so as to enhance the speed of cooling of the film materials and increase the strength of the film by minimizing the premature crystallinity thereof upon extrusion of the film and passage through the cooling apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4909721
Abstract: A male and female mold parts combination for forming a latch opening in a container molded from a softened sheet of plastic having a female mold key member arranged on the female mold part; a male mold key member arranged on the male mold part; a cutting edge adjacent to a planar face of one key and a vertical surface having a bevelled edge surface on the other key. The keys being normally registered so that on closure of the mold parts, initial contact will involve the cutting edge, the bevelled edge surface and the plastic therebetween. One of the keys is fixed in one of the mold parts and the other of the keys being located in the other of the mold parts and free to move independently of its mold part so that on closure of the mold parts the cutting edge will ride off the bevelled edge surface and slide across the vertical surface piercing and enlarging a latch opening in the plastic.
