  • Patent number: 5415613
Abstract: A non-releasable mechanical join useful for permanent joins of plastics material cartons is formed by a row of a plurality of engagement tabs interlocked in a complementary row of slots. The engagement tabs have heads able to passthrough the slots in one direction but unable to return in the other direction. The tab heads may be formed as arrowheads, the barbs of which act against edges of the slots to disallow withdrawal. Suitably, the leading edges of the slots ar convexly arcuate towards the approaching arrowheads. This may help to provide secure engagement. The greater the number oftabs and slots, the greater may be be the permanence of the join.

  • Patent number: 5412619
Abstract: A system is provided for tracking the three-dimensional position of an object within a three-dimensional region by triangulation techniques to generate signals corresponding to such three-dimensional positions. The signals may be used to operate a variably operable system to create a virtual reality system. The triangulation means may comprise at least three ultrasound emitters cooperating with ultrasound receivers located on a body moving in the three-dimensional region. The signals are produced from multiplexed frequencies and/or intermediate signals may be projected using a triaxial accelometer.

  • Patent number: 5358762
Abstract: A sandwich board is made of sheet plastics material such as polyethylene. The panels are inhibited from warping by inturned flanges along the edges. Along the rising edges the flanges may be permanently inturned by means of a reverse bend. Along the upper edge the flange may be hinged through double coined lines. A lower flange may also be hinged inwardly through double coined lines for rigidity. Braces may be provided on back panel surfaces for rigidity especially on large sandwich boards. The panels may be slightly offset from one another so that the inturned flanges internest. The outer surfaces of the panels are coated over the whole surface with an adherent ink which allows for later printing of information using cheaper conventional inks or paints.

  • Patent number: 5320033
Abstract: Apparatus for top and tailing vegetables, for example carrots, comprises an endless flexible plastics material belt formed of inter-linked transverse links between which a drive wheel may rest. The belt is divided into compartments by interspaced modified links having upstanding molded walls over most of the width of the belt. The belt tilts from side to side on a wide support surface to tilt vegetables first one way and then the other. Knives operate in margins of the belt free of upstanding walls on vegetables which have been tilted towards them. Sidewalls for the belt which stop vegetables falling off it are absent in the region of the knives to allow detritus to fall easily away.

  • Patent number: 5228617
Abstract: A re-usable, recyclable, reversible carton is made from recyclable plastics material and is formed from a carton blank adapted for erection without the need for additional closure devices such as glue or staples. The plastics material may be polyethylene and printing on at least one surface may be by use of UV inks on a roughened surface with a view to maximum longevity of the printing. The carton is erected from a knock-down carton blank having releasable engagement tabs and slots to releasably maintain the carton in an erected condition. A two part lid is provided, each part of which may be folded down the side of the carton to allow for the possibility of using the carton for open storage.

  • Patent number: 5197776
Abstract: A seating/bed arrangement for a motor home utilizes freestanding seats which may be moved from place to place within a recreational vehicle. The seats securable to fixed members of the vehicle by latches in various configurations, for example as an L-shaped settee, two oppositely facing seats, two one-behind-the-other seats or as a bed. A single fixed member of the vehicle and a single latch per seat may allow for the majority of the desirable configurations but an additional latch may be provided, notably for the L-shaped settee configuration. When two seats are aligned, it is possible to form at least a full sized double bed by extending the seat fortioins forwards. A table may also be utilized in the bed configuration and the table may be provided with a dual purpose leg to support the table either as a table or as part of the bed.

  • Patent number: 5184772
Abstract: A reusable, recyclable carton is made from recyclable plastics material and has a closure which does not require glue, staples or other non-recyclable closing elements. The plastics material may be polyethylene. The carton is erected from a knock-down carton blank having releasable engagement tabs and slots to releasably maintain the carton in an erected condition. A two flap lid is provided, the flaps meeting on a line joining opposing walls of the carton. A flange rises from each of the opposing walls adjacent the joining line of the lid flaps. The flange is joined to its respective wall along only part of its length so that it has free ends. The flange may be bent over to overlie the lid flaps and its ends may be tucked into slots in the lid flaps for that purpose.

  • Patent number: 5165744
Abstract: A device for golfers to pick up golf balls and golf tees and to locate balls and tees is intended to reduce the need of a golfer to bend bown to the ground. The device includes an elongated tube having a golf ball holding cup at one end and a shallow tee holding socket and a tee retrieving device at the other end. A ball may be set in the cup to be secured against falling under its own weight and may be dislodged therefrom by movement of a coaxial rod to project into the cup. A tee lodged in the socket may be similarly dislodged by movement of the rod in the other direction. Lugs are provided in slots of the tube so that the user may move the rod appropriately. A two tined fork projects at one end of the device as a hook to retrieve a tee.

  • Patent number: 5123827
Abstract: The invention concerns extrusion dies for apparatus for producing seamless thermoplastic tubing. An elongate hollow core is provided extending through a bore in the extrusion head. The hollow core may carry service lines to downstream parts of the apparatus and may act as or may carry an inner mandrel extending coaxially in an extrusion nozzle. The invention provides hollow core, the diameter of which is not greater than the diameter of the bore of the extrusion head. Thus, it may be possible to withdraw the core in a downsteam direction for tool changes and the like without the necessity of dismantling the extrusion head.

  • Patent number: 5107746
Abstract: A system is provided for tracking the three-dimensional position of an object within a three-dimensional region by triangulation techniques to generate signals corresponding to such three-dimensional positions. The signals may be used to drive a music synthesizer. Triangulation may be by the use of at least three spaced apart ultrasound emitters cooperating with ultrasound receivers located on a body moving in the three-dimensional region. The position of each ultrasound receiver is calculable by triangulation from data from ultrasound pulses received by the receiver from the emitters. A sound map may be made of the region so that similar signals may drive the synthesizer differently for different sub-regions.

  • Patent number: 5072628
Abstract: The invention concerns a multi function steering mechanism having a non-rotatable display panel located within the rim of the steering wheel. Wires of a wiring truss to the display panel are continuous through a hollow non-rotatable support member for the display panel. A rotatably steering link is off set from the support shaft and geared to a cylindrical gear hub of the steering wheel which is rotatably supported on either the support column or onto an outer housing for the mechanism. The support member, steering link and wheel, with or without the actual display panel, may be provided as a replacement unit for a conventionally mounted steering wheel.
