  • Patent number: 4946213
Abstract: The disclosure relates to double ended tube coupling (10) having a coupling body (11) with the throughway (12) through which a tube can pass. Collets (16) are located in the open ends of the throughway having resilient arms to engage the tube and tapered internal cam surface (15) are formed adjacent the open ends of the throughway to engage the arms of the collets to cause the collet to lock tubes extending into the ends of the coupling body in the body. Midway along the throughway in the coupling body there are four resilient arms (25) moulded integrally with the wall of the coupling body and inclined towards one end of the coupling body to provide end stops (26) to limit the insertion of a tube into the coupling body from that one end but to permit a tube to pass through the coupling body when inserted from the other.

  • Patent number: 4944876
Abstract: A fuel monitor assembly for use in testing the contamination level of a fuel sample is disclosed, including a housing having a fuel inlet and a fuel outlet, and a fuel filter capsule disposed within the housing. The filter capsule includes an inlet half and an outlet half, wherein the halves interfit to retain a membrane filter therebetween. The inlet half of the filter capsule is integrally formed with an inlet dispersion structure that radially disperses an incoming stream of fuel so as to equalize the pressure across the face of the membrane filter, thereby resulting in even distribution of contaminant particulates deposited on the membrane filter. The outlet half of the filter capsule is integrally formed with a recessed, radially symmetric grid configuration that channels fuel passing through the membrane filter to the fuel outlet, and also encourages equal pressure distribution across the face of the membrane filter.

  • Patent number: 4944377
Abstract: According to the invention, a safety coupling, the torque transmission of which takes place as a result of the radial tension of a clamping sleeve which is under high pressure, has a release valve. During a rotation of the shaft relative to the hub, caused by overloading, the release valve is opened, so that the torque transmission is interrupted as a result of a reduction of the pressure in the clamping sleeve. After rotation, the tappet of the release valve is drawn into the release valve, so that the safety coupling can be put into operation again as a result of a pressure buildup, without any destruction or wear occurring.

  • Patent number: 4942613
Abstract: The present invention is a diagnosis and testing system for a temperature control system which includes a communication bus, a control processor, and a service thermostat. The communication bus is coupled to substantially all of the components of the system. The control processor initiates communication between components by sending a bus address over the bus. The control processor includes an address decoder for recognizing various bus address signals, including a normal thermostat bus address and a service thermostat bus address. The service thermostat has a switch, a processor, and a bus interface unit. The switch selects the operating mode of the service thermostat, e.g. either normal or service modes. The bus interface unit communicates over the bus for the service thermostat processor. The service thermostat processor operates the service thermostat and is adapted to communicate over the bus using a bus address according to the operating mode which is determined by the switch.

  • Patent number: 4941478
Abstract: A pillow provided with a power unit for rotating its top surface about a horizontal center line of rotation into a new angular position whenever a snoring noise is detected. The angular position of the head of the sleeping person is thereby changed gradually enough not to wake him up but since his larynx is changed into a new state every time the top surface of the pillow is rotated into a new angular position the snoring noise is eventually controlled. Reliable detection of snoring noise is made possible by taking advantage of the periodic nature of the snoring noise.

  • Patent number: 4940422
Abstract: This invention pertains to a lamp socket assembly for use in automotive applications and the like. The assembly includes a housing, a contact insert, and a body. The contact insert is captured in the cavity of the housing by the body. The body is welded to the housing. Lugs on the body secure the assembly to a panel. A seal is placed between a flange on the housing and the panel to seal the assembly to the panel. Contacts are retained in the contact insert by engagement of U-shaped portions in slots of the contact inserts. Blade terminals are inserted through windows in the housing, contact insert, and contacts to interlock the terminals with the contacts and to keep the contacts secured in their positions. A socket connector is sealingly secured to the housing and prevents moisture from entering the housing. In an alternative embodiment, no socket connector is provided but the blade terminals are crimped to wires for connecting the socket assembly to a source of electric power.

  • Patent number: 4938522
Abstract: A protective cover snugly fits over an automobile having a cleaned polished surface and protects same while the automobile is in the open. The cover includes flared side panels, a bumper panel, hood panel, windshield panel, roof panel, rear window panel and tail panel all connected together by seams and closely fitting the corresponding surfaces of the automobile. In particular the seams are non-coincident with corners of the automobile so that stress on the seams is avoided. Also, the cover has a flap in one side panel, especially on the driver's side which can be opened to permit access to the automobile, in such case windows are included in the cover so that the automobile can be operated with the cover fitted thereon. The cover particularly has a water-proof outer layer and an air permeable, polishing inner layer.

  • Patent number: 4934905
Abstract: A hermetic compressor assembly is disclosed including a motor-compressor unit disposed within a hermetically sealed housing, wherein the housing has an oil sump in the bottom thereof from which oil is drawn to lubricate the compressor mechanism. An electric drive motor includes a vertical rotor having a lower axial end adjacent the oil sump. An arc-shaped counterbalance weight and an annular plate member having a smooth bottom surface adjacent the oil sump are connected to the lower axial end of the rotor, whereby upon rotation of the rotor turbulence and resulting agitation of the oil in the oil sump are prevented. In one embodiment, the counterbalance weight and plate member are integrally formed. In other embodiments, the weight is disposed intermediate the rotor and a flat or dish-shaped plate member, which presents a smooth bottom surface adjacent the oil sump.

  • Patent number: 4935678
Abstract: A speed control circuit in combination with an electrical motor for use in a hand-held food mixer operated on AC household electrical current. The motor is a universal type having a series connected armature winding and field winding wherein the field winding includes a plurality of taps each selectably connectable to the current source by a multipoint switch. A Quadrac.TM. semiconductor switch containing a triac and triggering diac in one package conducts electrical current from the current source through the armature winding and the selected portion of said field winding over a portion of each cycle of the current source. A trigger signal causes switching of the semiconductor switch at a predetermined phase angle relative to the voltage waveform of the current source. An error signal of a magnitude proportional to motor speed and based on counter EMF of the motor is generated by the entirety of the field winding.

  • Patent number: 4934742
Abstract: A fluid coupling assembly particularly adapted for connecting hydraulic conduits to the ports of a fluid manifold. The coupling comprises a male member which is threadedly connected to the port and which includes tapered locking surfaces on the male and female members, respectively, that are in tight frictional engagement when the male member is threaded into the female member. An O-ring is positioned in a pocket and disposed between the threads and the tapered locking surfaces to isolate the locking surfaces from hydraulic fluid, thereby ensuring a dry, frictional wedge lock. The O-ring is of a size that permits it to move axially in the pocket. In a modified embodiment of the coupling, there is provided an adjustable fitting which includes a lock nut having a skirt portion that is wedged into the tapered O-ring pocket.
