  • Patent number: 5020242
Abstract: A guide roll for a porous belt, for instance for the drying wire of a paper machine, is described. A perforated roll shell rotates about a stationary air guide box. The guide box has two air chambers which extend across the length of the guide roll. One air chamber serves the discharge of blowing air and the other air chamber serves the intake and removal of suction air. Contained between the air guide box and the roll shell is an annular space in which a blowing zone and a suction zone are defined by longitudinal seals. Considering that blowing air and suction air may have different temperatures, the two air chambers of the air guide box are movable axially relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 5012730
Abstract: Press roll with a tubular cylinder, featuring on each of its two ends a roll head with a journal, specifically for use in a roll press consisting of the press roll and a backing roll with controlled deflection, for the treatment of web type material such as a paper web or the like. The inside surface of the tubular cylinder is so shaped across the web width that the shape of the flex line of the tubular cylinder will approximate during operation the flex line of the roll shell of the backing roll. This yields a press roll having a relatively thin-walled tubular cylinder which is lightweight. Nonetheless, an extensively constant line force is achieved in the press gap of the roll press across the web width.

  • Patent number: 5012594
Abstract: A web drying unit, e.g. for a paper making machine, has several drying cylinders, over which a web to be dried can pass, and also several guide rolls for at least one endless supporting belt for pressing the web to be dried against the drying cylinders. Only some of the drying cylinders are provided with a drive gear connected by gears to a drive pinion, the gears being disposed inside a gear housing, which is also used to house cylinder journal pins for the drive motor. At least one of the guide rolls is also provided with a drive gear, which is connected to a drive gear of the drying cylinder. A gear housing also contains the drive gear of the guide roller and its bearing on the drive side. Only one common drive is needed for the unit, and uniform ventilation conditions are enabled to occur over the cross-direction of the paper web. To ensure no obstruction to maintenance personnel on the drive side of the unit, the drive pinion is disposed in the upper region of the gear housing.

  • Patent number: 5013225
Abstract: A hermetic scroll compressor is disclosed including within a hermetically sealed housing a fixed scroll member, an orbiting scroll member, and a crankshaft operably coupled to the orbiting scroll member and driven by a motor. The crankshaft has an axial passageway therein that is in fluid communication with an oil sump located in a discharged pressure chamber within the housing. Upon rotation of the crankshaft, a centrifugal oil pump delivers oil through the axial passageway to the bottom surface of a plate portion of the orbiting scroll member. An oil passage extends through the orbiting scroll plate to introduce oil into a discharge compression chamber established by the intermeshing fixed and orbiting scroll members. Accordingly, oil is introduced into the compression chamber and intermediate the scroll members without the creation of an intentional pressure leak. The size of the oil passage can be varied to affect the amount of oil introduced into the compression chamber.

  • Patent number: 5012071
Abstract: A splatter capture shield for impingement ovens. The shield has a plurality of elements which are vertically overlapping but not physically touching to allow the jetted air streams of the impingement oven into a baking pan, but not to allow escaping gas with entrained grease to pass through the shield without hitting one of the shield elements. The vaporized grease collects on the shield elements and then drips back down on the food item, thus self-basting the food item.

  • Patent number: 5007807
Abstract: A compressor assembly is disclosed including a compressor mechanism resiliently mounted within a hermetically sealed housing. The compressor mechanism includes a crankcase having a radially extending mounting flange portion, which is resiliently connected to the housing sidewall at a plurality of circumferentially spaced locations by a plurality of mounting assemblies. Each mounting assembly comprises a rubber bushing received within a hole in the mounting flange, and a threaded stud that extends through a hole in the bushing and engages a threaded hole in a steel block welded to the housing sidewall above the mounting flange. A washer and retaining nut on the bottom of the threaded stud suspendingly support the mounting flange. In this manner, only a peripheral portion of the washer contacts the mounting flange circumjacent the hole therein, thereby minimizing noise transmission to the housing. Lateral movement of the compressor mechanism is absorbed by the bushing.

  • Patent number: 5004977
Abstract: A contact probe, comprising: an electroconductive needle member; a tubular holder slidable receiving the needle member; a compression coil spring fitted on the needle member in the tubular holder to urge the needle member so as to project a forward end of the needle member from one end of the tubular holder; a stopper arrangement for restricting the extent to which the forward end of the needle member projects from the one end of the tubular holder; and a lead wire preferably continuous and integral with the needle member for electrically connecting the needle member to an external circuit. Owing to the use of the compression coil spring which may extend substantially the entire length of the contact probe, a favorable spring property can be obtained. The use of the compression coil spring surrounding the needle member permits generation of a large spring force, and the outer diameter of the contact probe is not required to be increased.
