  • Patent number: 4657383
Abstract: The viability of a pack of stored blood platelets is monitored by gripping the pack between two plates (6) and (7) which are closed to pinch together the walls of the bag (10) along an L-shaped seal (14), leaving a channel (17), squeezing a part (15) of the bag by means of a reciprocating plunger (19), so that the platelets continually flow to and fro between the part (15) and the part (16), through the channel (17), and passing a beam of light from an LED (27) through the channel (17), to a photoresistor (29). The AC signal from the photoresistor corresponds to the fluctuations in the intensity of the light passing through the channel (17) and the amplitude of this signal is representative of the viability, and hence the clinical acceptability, of the platelets.

  • Patent number: 4657318
Abstract: A cabinet comprising an enclosure with a front surface in which there is an opening. A tambour door is slidably attached to the enclosure. The tambour door is movable between an open position, in which the opening provides direct access to the enclosure interior, and a closed position in which the opening is closed by the door. The cabinet further includes a rear brake means for exerting a force opposing the movement of the tambour door from the open to the closed position when engaged by the tambour door. The tambour door engages the rear brake means at a first selected distance from the closed position that is sufficiently great so that the rear brake means can exert an adequate opposing force on the tambour door so that the tambour door gently closes.

  • Patent number: 4651540
Abstract: A suction accumulator including a casing for defining a liquid storage vessel. The casing includes an upper and lower end cap. A baffle is disposed in an upper portion of the casing adjacent the upper end cap whereby refrigerant flowing into the inlet will be deflected by the baffle from an axial entry direction to flow in a horizontal plane and will be confined by the baffle until the fluid flows generally tangentially to the casing wall. At this point, the fluid leaves the baffle and flows into the liquid storage vessel. An elongated conduit is disposed in the casing whereby gaseous refrigerant flows through a tortuous path to enter the conduit and then flows through the conduit to the fluid outlet of the suction accumulator. The baffle and conduit may be molded or extruded from plastic material.

  • Patent number: 4641549
Abstract: A change spur gear of reducer unit design features two paths of force. The first path of force comprises a unit which provides gearing to high speed, a hydrodynamic torque converter and, following it, a multiple shift gear. The second path of force comprises as well a unit which provides gearing to high speed, on the high speed shaft of which there is a hydrodynamic servoclutch arranged. The secondary vane wheel connects through appropriate reducers with the transmission output. In shifting from one gear to another, the servoclutch is filled first, then the respective shift detent is disengaged under no load, the servoclutch is adjusted to the slip corresponding with the next gear thereby enabling a no-load shifting of the detent of the next gear. Upon emptying of the servoclutch, the engine moment is again assumed by the first path of force without any interruption of the traction force.
