  • Patent number: 6938163
Abstract: A technique for securely storing data within a memory is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the technique is realized by encrypting the data using a non-verifiable personal identifier, and then encrypting a reminder using the same non-verifiable personal identifier. The encrypted data and the encrypted reminder are then stored in the memory. The stored encrypted data and the stored encrypted reminder can only be correctly decrypted using the non-verifiable personal identifier. Also, a correctly decrypted reminder provides an indication of correctly decrypted data. The non-verifiable personal identifier is not stored in the memory so as to insure security of the system.

  • Patent number: 6928277
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for handling global challenge authentication registration in a cellular telecommunications network. A Mobile Switching Center (MSC) receives a registration message from a mobile station, and it determines whether it has capabilities for bypassing global challenge authentication. In instances where the MSC has capabilities for bypassing global challenge authentication, it verifies whether a Visitor Location Register (VLR) relating thereto has a record for the mobile station from which the registration message has been received, and if so, it bypasses the global challenge authentication for the mobile station. When the VLR does not have a record for the mobile station from which the registration message has been received, it performs the global challenge authentication.

  • Patent number: 6922551
Abstract: In a radio communications unit with several transceivers communicating in different frequency bands, a signal parameter of a selected channel is monitored in order to detect interference due to intermodulation products. The select channel is for example used by a long range radio communications link and the interfering channel on a short range radio link. Once the channel causing interference has been identified, transmissions on it are prevented.

  • Patent number: 6913700
Abstract: A method of and an arrangement for continuous hydrolysis of organic material in the form of sludge with a dry solids content of 1-20%. A sludge containing the organic material with a low content of abrasive components and a dry solids content of 1-20% is heated to a temperature of approximately 100° C. The sludge is mixed with steam at a pressure of 1-4 bars. The sludge/steam mixture is lead to a preheating tank. The pressure of the sludge/steam mixture is increased from 3 to 10 bars. The sludge-steam mixture is lead to a reactor. A depressurizing tank depressurizes the sludge/steam mixture to 1-4 bars. The sludge and steam are separated and may be cooled.

  • Patent number: 6914947
Abstract: A method for maintaining synchronization between a transmitter and a receiver is disclosed. The method offsets time drift which causes a degradation in the quality of communication between a transmitter and a receiver. The method comprises using a first sampling time to obtain a first sequence of hard decision symbols for decoding contents of a portion of a received packet, switching to a second sampling time upon degradation in a reliability of the symbols, and using the second sampling time to obtain a second sequence of hard decision symbols for decoding contents of a remaining portion of the received packet.

  • Patent number: 6907016
Abstract: In a cellular telecommunications network, a method and system for performing dormant hand-off for a dormant Mobile Node (MN) between a source packet zone an a target packet zone, when the MN still has an active A10 and Point-to Point Protocol (PPP) connection in the target packet zone. According to the method, when handed-off, the MN issues an origination request with a Data Ready to Sent (DRS) parameter set to zero for the target Base Station Controller (BSC-T) which responsive to the request further sends an A9-setup-A8 registration request to a target Packet Control Function (PCF-T). The PCF-T then sends an A-11 Registration Request message to a Packet Data Service Node (PDSN-T) of the target packet zone. Responsive to the receipt of the Registration request, the PDSN-T sends an agent advertisement message to the MN and initiates the Mobile IP (MIP) registration procedure, and the MN can register the care-of-address information relating to the new serving PDSN, the PDSN-T, with its Home Agent (HA).

  • Patent number: 6904033
Abstract: In an IP-based cellular telecommunications network, such as for example in a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) 2000 cellular telecommunications network, a method, a system and a Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN) for registering a Mobile Node (MN) with the PDSN. Once a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection is established between the MN and the PDSN, a PPP timer is started, the PPP timer being set to expire after a predetermined period of time. A Mobile Internet Protocol (MIP) registration takes place between the MN and the PDSN. The PDSN detects if the MIP registration is successful and if so, resets the PPP timer to a substantially higher value and the PPP session continues until one of the involved parties terminates it. If the MIP registration is not successful, the PDSN further detects if a new MIP registration request is received before the expiration of the predefined period of time, and if so, the PDSN resets the PPP timer again to the predefined period of time.

  • Patent number: 6904104
Abstract: A receiver section recovers the in-phase and quadrature components of a linear modulated data signal. The in-phase signal is sampled and quantized producing an in-phase sample stream, and the quadrature phase signal is sampled and quantized producing a quadrature sample stream. The in-phase sample stream and the quadrature sample stream are both over-sampled at a rate of N times a symbol rate of the data signal. A decimation section filters the quantized in-phase sample stream and the quantized quadrature sample stream to produce a reduced in-phase sample stream and a reduced quadrature sample stream at a rate of M times the symbol rate, wherein M is less than or equal to N.
