  • Patent number: 6878838
Abstract: Chiral porous zirconium phosphonates containing metal complex moieties are provided, synthesized via a molecular building block approach, and characterized by a variety of techniques including TGA, adsorption isotherms, XRD, SEM, IR, and microanalysis. These hybrid solids may be used for enantioselective heterogeneous asymmetric hydrogenation of aromatic ketones with remarkably high e.e. values of up to 99.2%. Similarly prepared chiral porous solids may be used for asymmetric hydrogenation of ?-keto esters with e.e.'s of up to 95%. The solid catalysts can also be easily recycled and reused multiple times without the loss of activity and enantioselectivity. Ready tunability of such a molecular building block approach allows the optimization of these hybrid materials to provide practically useful heterogeneous asymmetric catalysts.

  • Patent number: 6869453
Abstract: A reactive dye compound comprising: (a) at least one chromophore moiety; (b) at least one nitrogen-containing heterocycle; (c) a linking group to link each chromophore moiety to each nitrogen-containing heterocycle; characterised in that at least one nitrogen-containing heterocycle is substituted with at least one Y group wherein Y is a phosphonate or a borate derivative. The compounds herein have high Exhaustion Values (E), high Fixation Values (F) and high Efficiency Values (T) and show significant improvements in terms of reducing spent dyestuff in effluent, increasing dye affinity to the substrate, increasing the dye-substrate covalent bonding, increasing the ability to dye substrates at room temperature, decreasing the amount of dye that is removed during the post dyeing “soaping off process” and therefore simplifying the post dyeing “soaping off process” traditionally associated with dyeing cotton with fibre reactive dyes and reduction of staining of adjacent white fabrics.

  • Patent number: 6867227
Abstract: Asymmetric derivatives of furamidines with one of the phenyl rings of furamidine replaced with a benzimidazole have been found by quantitative footprinting analyses to bind GC containing sites on DNA more strongly than to pure AT sequences. These compounds have been shown to bind in the minor groove at specific GC containing sequences of DNA in a highly cooperative manner as a stacked dimer. Compounds of the present invention find use in selectively binding mixed sequence DNA, and may also be used in methods of regulating gene expression, methods of treating opportunistic infections and cancer, as well as in methods of detecting certain sequences of DNA.

  • Patent number: 6868111
Abstract: A method and system for maintaining synchronization and identifying received codewords in a spread spectrum communication system is disclosed. According to the method and system, a spread spectrum transmitter divides information being transmitted into pairs of tetrads. The transmitter then substitutes modulating codes selected from first and second groups of modulating codes for each pair of tetrads. The bit stream consists of codewords alternatingly selected from the first and second code groups. The bit stream does not contain any codes from the first and second groups other than the selected codes in the selected positions. The transmitter modulates a carrier using the modulating codes and transmits the signal to a spread spectrum receiver. The spread spectrum receiver synchronizes itself with the incoming signal and identifies the transmitted information by detecting the alternating sequence of codewords from the first and second code groups.

  • Patent number: 6853705
Abstract: In a method for sequentially generating segment fields for use in delivering intensity modulated radiotherapy an input continuous intensity map is generated. A segment field is generated directly from the input intensity map. A residual continuous intensity map is generated that is based on the respective photon fluence contributions from the input intensity map and a fractionally intensity map corresponding to the segment field. These steps are repeated for a number of iterations to generate a like number of additional segment fields and residual maps derived therefrom. In each iteration, the residual map generated in the previous iteration is used as the input intensity map.

  • Patent number: 6839423
Abstract: A multiple point code routing node is configured to recognize multiple point codes as true point codes. The multiple point code routing node originates, terminates, and processes messages having any of its any of its true point codes. As a result, the multiple point code routing node can replace two or more signal transfer points in a conventional telecommunications network without requiring reconfiguration of other nodes in the telecommunications network. Multiple point code routing node may also recognize multiple adjacent point codes or secondary adjacent point codes of a mated multiple point code routing node. Because the multiple point code routing node can associate multiple point codes with its mate, the number of logical or physical signaling links between adjacent multiple point code routing nodes can be increased.

  • Patent number: 6836477
Abstract: A flexible routing node for re-directing signaling messages in a communications network is disclosed. Re-direction or re-routing of signaling message packets is accomplished through the use of a range or block-based database in conjunction with an exception-based database. The range-based routing instruction databases incorporates a data structure that maps ranges or blocks of mobile identification numbers (MINs) to a single destination network address, while the exceptions database stores any exceptions to these range or block-based rules. The pair of routing databases is implemented such that, when a signaling message is received that requires re-direction, the exception-based database is queried first. If a match is found in the exceptions database, the signaling message is modified using the returned routing instructions and transmitted into an associated communication network. If no match is found in the exception-based database, a default query is performed against the range-based database.
