Patent number: 6389939Abstract: A multiple spindle bar machine is disclosed including a cylindrical spindle carrier assembly supporting a spaced apart array of spindle bearings. Workpiece holding spindles are rotatably journaled in the spindle bearings. A hollow spindle drive shaft extends through a central opening in the spindle carrier and includes a drive gear pinned to an end of the shaft. The drive gear intermeshes with spindle gears to drive the spindles at a uniform rotational speed. The spindle carrier assembly is rotatably supported by at least one set of tapered roller bearings bearing against an outer peripheral surface of a spindle carrier. The set of roller bearings are disposed in a notched annulus in an inner peripheral surface a headstock upright. Patent number: 6390016Abstract: A sight flow indicator having a viewing window for monitoring liquid flowing therethrough is disclosed. The flow indicator is configured to disentrain gas and particulate from a portion of the fluid. The flow indicator is also configured to reduce the velocity of fluid flowing therethrough. The portion of the fluid from which gas and particulate has been disentrained is diverted from the main flow stream, past the viewing window. The relatively clean liquid sample flowing past the viewing window lends itself to relatively accurate optical analysis using, compared to the bulk fluid flowing through the flow indicator. The flow indicator is well-suited for use with a spectrometer or other optical analyzer.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1999Date of Patent: May 21, 2002Assignee: Penberthy, Inc.Inventor: Gary G. Sanders

Patent number: 6386588Abstract: A cam buckle system has a lever arm which is pivotally connected to a base plate. The lever arm rotates a lock arm with cam teeth into abutment with a strap to lock the strap against movement. The strap also extends through a capture slot on the lever arm so that manual movement of the strap will open or lock the cam buckle as well as tension the strap. The cam buckle can be used for any tension member, but has particular utility to interconnect a pair of wrist straps of a ski pole grip. The straps and cam buckle form an adjustable length loop which can be tightened to form a heel support for the ski grip. A single point attachment at a top of the handle includes a vertical slot and spreader plate to vertically orient and open the pair of straps. This creates a wrist strap adjustment system that can be quickly manipulated using a single gloved hand.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2000Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Inventors: John Young, Charles French, Jr., Robert Youmans

Patent number: 6378443Abstract: A pneumatic outlet gate of a railroad hopper car has an valve member mounted for rotation in a discharge tube between open and closed positions. The valve member is an arcuate segment terminating laterally at edge faces. The edge faces are angled such that in the upper half of the discharge tube they always slant downwardly from the surface of the tube, while in the lower half of the discharge tube the edge faces face downwardly. An arrangement of stops and abutments prevents rotation of the valve member to a location where the edge faces could trap lading against the discharge tube. Accordingly, the edge faces are self-emptying.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2001Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Salco Products, Inc.Inventors: William F. Burian, Andrew C. Crouse, Daniel T. Patent number: 6369815Abstract: For simultaneous deformations of multiple surfaces, a constraint called a link constraint is created to link two faces that are to be deformed together. The link constraint consists of a relationship between a constraint curve in each face to be deformed. The selected constraint curve may be any curve, including trimmed curves and part of a boundary curve. As the faces are deformed, the link constraint limits the deformation of the faces by acting as a zipper between the two surfaces along the selected constraint curve. For local deformations within a surface, a hierarchy is created within specific areas, known as patches, of an individual face in a model, ensuring that when a patch in the hierarchy is deformed, the deformation affects patches lower in the hierarchy than that patch, but the deformation does not affect patches higher in the hierarchy.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1999Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: Spatial Technology, Inc.Inventors: George Celniker, Richard M. Sowar, John H. Sloan, IV

Patent number: 6370251Abstract: Key escrow is achieved without a key escrow facility. An escrow key pair is generated and stored in the terminal. A key escrow field that includes a traffic key encrypted with the escrow key is provided before encrypted traffic is communicated. When access to the traffic key is authorized, the escrow key is extracted from the terminal and used to decrypt the traffic key. The private portion of the escrow key is covered in the terminal with an escrow key access number. The escrow key access number is preferably generated by the terminal manufacturer with a secret algorithm using the terminal serial number. Alternatively, the escrow key is stored within a user token, rather than the terminal.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1998Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: General Dynamics Decision Systems, Inc.Inventors: Douglas Allan Hardy, Douglas Matthew East
