  • Patent number: 6573726
Abstract: A system for detecting ground faults in a compensated electric power distribution network includes the determination of zero sequence voltage (V0) and zero sequence current (I0) on a power line and calculating the zero sequence conductance (G0) therefrom. The operation of the conductance calculation circuit occurs only under selected power line conditions involving minimum values of zero sequence voltage, zero sequence current and positive sequence voltage, to ensure the accuracy of a fault direction determination. The conductance values are processed on an adaptive basis in which the difference between the most recent conductance value and a conductance value from a selected previous point in time is determined and then compared against threshold values to make forward and reverse fault declarations.

  • Patent number: 6568985
Abstract: An aerial toy includes a hollow sleeve member which is open at both ends and a base member which acts as a pump into which the sleeve fits longitudinally in a sliding arrangement, wherein movement of the base member from a first extended position to a second position along the hollow sleeve member results in air moving out the upper end of the sleeve. A launch tube portion fits onto an upper end of the hollow sleeve member. A flying member which is made from a compressible foam is mountable on the launch tube, the flying member having at least one constriction along its length, wherein the internal diameter of a body portion of the flying member is slightly decreased at the constriction, providing a tighter fit between the flying member and the launch tube without significantly increasing the force necessary to mount the flying member on the launch tube.

  • Patent number: 6560132
Abstract: The system includes a plurality of voltage transformers in a protective relay for A, B and C-phase power system voltages, responsive to the secondary windings of corresponding voltage transformers for the power system, the secondary windings of the voltage system power transformers being connected in a broken delta arrangement. The primary windings of the relay voltage transformers are arranged in a broken delta configuration and connected to the secondary windings of the power system voltage transformers so that A-phase, B-phase and C-phase voltage are provided at the secondary windings of the relay voltage transformers. The three-phase voltages may then be summed to produce a residual voltage value.

  • Patent number: 6559622
Abstract: The system includes an enable signal applied to an output AND element. A comparator compares the voltage ratio of selected measured and calculated phase-to-phase or single phase voltages against a threshold value. An AND gate is responsive to a high signal from the comparator and indications of a three pole open condition, a single pole open condition for selected poles, and a loss of potential condition. A high output from the AND gate is applied to a timer, which produces a high output for a short period of time, which controls the output element. The output element provides a blocking signal for the protective elements under particular conditions and a permissive signal under other conditions.

  • Patent number: 6554152
Abstract: The cover member is adapted to receive a fuel-containing cell for a vehicle, such as a stock car racing vehicle, and is configured to cover and fit snugly against substantially all of the surfaces of the fuel cell. The cover member comprises a plurality of layers of penetration-resistant, synthetic material, which is lightweight but high strength, flexible and, to an extent, stretchable, so that in the event of a penetration of the fuel cell by a moving object, such as debris caused by a vehicle crash, material in the vicinity of the penetration is drawn through the opening in the fuel cell with the object, preventing contact of the object and the exposed edges of the opening in the fuel cell.

  • Patent number: 6550118
Abstract: The apparatus and method includes a spindle portion which holds a cutting tool. The drill is initially moved forwardly of a pressure foot portion of the apparatus. The pressure foot portion is then moved forwardly along with the spindle and drill to clamp the mechanical assembly. A thrust control arrangement produces a reduction of the thrust on the tool holder such that as the assembly is being clamped, the tool initially contacts the workpiece and then remains stationary while the pressure foot moves forward to complete clamp-up. The positions of the tip of the tool and the surface of the workpiece are recorded and compensation is then made to the apex position of the spindle stroke, using a previously determined reference position of the tool relative to the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 6543206
Abstract: An apparatus and method for evacuating and sealing a bag made of a sealable material and containing a comminuted product. The bag is positioned with its open upper end around a sleeve through which a hollow probe can be extended. A pair of upper jaw members close to form an outer temporary seal above an intermediate region of the bag above the level of the surface of the charge in the bag where a permanent seal is to be formed. A pair of lower jaws members close to form an inner temporary seal about a lower region of the bag above the surface of the charge. With the probe extended through the sleeve into the bag, the bag is evacuated through the probe. After evacuation is completed and after withdrawal of the hollow probe, a pair of sealing members close against the intermediate region of the bag in order to form a permanent seal for the bag.

  • Patent number: 6525543
Abstract: The fault identification system includes a first logic circuit which is responsive to conventional protective elements which recognize the presence of low resistance single line-to-ground faults for the A, B and C phases on a power transmission line. The first logic circuit includes a portion thereof for recognizing and providing an output indication of single line-to-ground faults, faults involving two phases and three-phase faults, in response to the occurrence of different combinations of outputs from the protective elements. A calculation circuit, when enabled, is used to determine the angular difference between the total zero sequence current and the total negative sequence current for high resistance faults when the protective elements themselves cannot identify fault conditions. The angular difference is in one of three pre-selected angular sectors.

  • Patent number: 6518767
Abstract: In a power line current differential protection system, all three phase current values (IA, IB and IC) are obtained from both the local end and the remote end of a power transmission line. The magnitude of the ratio of the remote current values to the local current values are calculated. Also, the angle difference between the local and the remote current values for each phase are calculated. Comparison elements then compare the ratio and angle values against preselected values which establish a restrain region in the current ratio plane. Current values which result in the ratio being within the region do not result in a tripping signal for the circuit breaker on the power transmission line, while current values which result in a ratio outside of the region result in a tripping of the circuit breaker. Similar circuitry is used for negative sequence current quantities, with the negative sequence preselected values being set substantially lower to produce a more sensitive response to possible faults in the line.

  • Patent number: 6508682
Abstract: The water trampoline includes a generally doughnut-shaped inflatable tube having an open center area. A mesh rebound member extends over the open center area and is secured around its entire periphery to the tube on the upper surface of the tube member. The attaching/securing elements include a plurality of side-by-side loop elements which extend toward the open center area of the tube from the upper surface thereof and a plurality of side-by-side loop elements which extend from the periphery of the rebound member. A first cord extends through the loop members, alternately between alternate tube loop members and rebound element loop members. A second cord member extends through the loop members through which the first cord does not extend. The cord members are tightened, moving the loop members together endwise.
