  • Patent number: 5469152
Abstract: A remote control device controls an electronic system that has a number of functions. The remote control device has a limited number of function keys, and certain keys correspond to different functions of the electronic system. In order to permit discrimination of the function keys, the length of time during which the function key is actuated is employed in the electronic system. To prevent erroneous control caused by artificial interruption of the control signal, the remote control device appends one of two different time code signals to the key code corresponding to the actuated function key, whereby discrimination of the actuation time at the electronic system is made possible.

  • Patent number: 5465403
Abstract: A radio receiver of synthesizer type having a phase-locked loop therein and capable of selecting a desired broadcasting station by frequency conversion of a reception signal in conformity with an oscillation signal obtained from the phase-locked loop. The receiver includes a data table including frequency data for receiving programs from broadcasting stations, and time data indicative of the broadcast start time of each station; a timer circuit; a memory for the timer; and station select keys. When desired frequency data has been selected out of the data table by depressing one of the select keys for timer reservation, the selected frequency data and the time data corresponding thereto are read out from the data table and are written in the timer memory.

  • Patent number: 5463702
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing color compression uses human factors to weight a distance metric in order to select a set of k presentation colors to represent n colors in an original image, where n>k. This same distance metric is used as part of a process to select an optimal mapping of the original image pixels to the presentation colors. The presentation colors are selected based upon a data clustering scheme in which clusters of colors are selected based upon their respective distance from each color within a given cluster and from colors in other clusters. Colors in different clusters are required to be farther apart than colors in the same clusters. This accounts for colors with high importance in accurately presenting the presentation image but having low overall occurrence in the image file.

  • Patent number: 5459947
Abstract: A decorative attachment for a lace-up type shoe which simulates a fold-down shoe tongue. A tongue simulating portion, having a top surface and a bottom surface, a top end and a bottom end, substantially covers a lace and knot portion of the shoe. The tongue simulating portion is preferably tapered to be narrower at the bottom end than at the top end. A decorative indicia is silkscreened to the top surface of the tongue simulating portion, and preferably represents a foot of a mascot for an athletic team. A strap extends from the end of the tongue simulating portion and is folded under the laces of the shoe. The strap has an upper surface which lies adjacent the lower surface of the tongue simulating portion when the strap is folded under the laces of the shoe and sandwiches the laces between the bottom surface of the tongue simulating portion and the upper surface of the strap. The tongue simulating portion and the strap are cut from a single sheet of leather, canvas or plastic material.

  • Patent number: 5459763
Abstract: Signals representing navigation messages from four GPS artificial satellites are received by a GPS receiver and supplied to receiving processors of respective channels, which spectrally reverse-spread and demodulate the signals by way of PSK to produce the navigation messages. The navigation messages are then supplied to a CPU that determines the position of the GPS receiver using satellite time and orbit data contained in the navigation messages. The CPU determines whether each channel is synchronized or not based on the level of a spectrally reverse-spread output (correlated output) signal. If a channel is out of synchronism, the CPU effects a synchronization process. After the synchronization process, the CPU obtains time base data equal to or higher than a bit number. To obtain such time base data in a channel after the synchronization process, the CPU uses time base data equal to or higher than a bit number of another channel that has already been synchronized.

  • Patent number: 5451976
Abstract: An image display apparatus is described for reducing the possibility of the occurrence of minor discomforts such as headaches, eyestrain, fatigue and the like in users. A symbol indicating distance such as 1m, 3m, or .infin. is displayed on an outer periphery of a virtual image adjusting knob. When the user aligns a mark on the virtual image position adjusting knob with a position corresponding to one of the predetermined symbols, the virtual image is set so as to be displayed at a position corresponding to the symbol. Consequently, the user can more easily recognize the displayed position of the virtual image so that the generation of a minor discomfort due to long term use which is more than necessary of the image display apparatus is substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 5447002
Abstract: A device for preventing contamination of a clean room during the performance of unclean work. Wall members are provided to be connected in series, to surround and isolate the unclean work. Each wall member includes an interlocking receiving channel that can be slipped over the frame member of an adjacent wall member. This allows the wall members to be connected in series. Each wall member also has wedging means that allows the wall member to be tightly wedged between the ceiling and floor of the clean room, to prevent contaminants produced by unclean work from traveling from the work area to the rest of the clean room. If the unclean work includes making an opening in the wall of the clean room, a similar arrangement can be constructed on the opposite side of the wall, if that area also needs to be kept clean.

  • Patent number: 5442653
Abstract: A signal transmitting and receiving apparatus includes a transmitting circuit block which has a carrier signal supplying portion for supplying first and second carrier signals having the same frequency and a relative phase angle difference of substantially ninety degrees to be used for producing a transmissible digital phase-modulated signal. A receiving circuit block in which received digital data are obtained is based on a received digital phase-modulated signal, wherein the carrier signal supplying portion comprises a carrier signal generator for generating an additional carrier signal having a frequency twice as high as the frequency of each of the first and second carrier signals. A first flip-flop circuit produces the first carrier signal based on the additional carrier signal. A second flip-flop circuit produces the second carrier signal based on the additional carrier signal having been phase-inverted.

  • Patent number: 5433396
Abstract: A reel base braking mechanism for a reel base of a video tape recorder in which the number of assembly parts can be reduced and an accurate braking timing can be obtained by employing a so-called one-way mechanism using a plane cam. In a ganged relation with a slide operation of a slide plate on which a plane cam formed of first and second guide grooves is formed when a tape loading and tape unloading are carried out, a pin of a braking arm is selectively engaged with the first and second guide grooves to rotate the braking arm to control the timing at which said supply-reel base is operated with brakes-on and off.

  • Patent number: 5429704
Abstract: A tool for etching at least one selected area of a silicon dixoide layer on a wafer. The tool includes a container which is partially filled with hydrofluoric (HF) acid. The tool further includes a template having an aperture extending between each selected area and the container. Vapors of the HF acid pass through each aperture to contact and etch each selected area in order to expose a test die on the wafer. An O-ring is associated with each selected area for sealing each of the selected areas from the remaining areas on the silicon dioxide layer such that substantially only the selected areas are etched by the vapors.
