Patent number: 6819094Abstract: Methods and circuits implementing a constant-current/constant-voltage circuit architecture are provided. The methods and circuits preferably provide a charging system that provides current to a load using a fixed current until the load is charged. When the load is charged, the methods and circuits preferably provide a variable current to the load in order to maintain the voltage level across the load. This variable current varies according to the voltage across the load. In one embodiment of the invention, a constant power current may also be used as one of the load charging currents. The constant power current may act as a limit on the charging circuit's power output.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2003Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventors: Trevor W. Barcelo, Robert L. Reay, David M. Dwelley

Patent number: 6803752Abstract: A multi-phase multi-channel voltage regulator having high efficiency at light loads is provided. The regulator increases efficiency at light loads by shutting down a select channel of the regulator. In addition, the regulator may place remaining channels in Burst Mode.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2000Date of Patent: October 12, 2004Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventor: Wei Chen

Patent number: 6772947Abstract: A method and system for scanning bar code data that can be published in near real time on Internet or intranet sites. The format is preferably XML-based, so the data is ready for e-commerce applications without further manipulation or conversion. The data can also be translated to more traditional bar code formats for backward compatibility with established barcode scanning practices.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2003Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Elizabeth C. Patent number: 6754639Abstract: A data processing system receives a continuous stream of real time transactional data regarding market transactions of fixed income securities. The incoming data is qualified and then used to determine the term structure of interest rates based on price information. The system provides linear interpolation techniques to complete an operative data set. This set is updated with current trade data, with term structure shifting using pivot points from newly qualified data. An index value for a pre-select portfolio of securities is then calculated and expressed in terms of price relative to par, yield to maturity and duration.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1999Date of Patent: June 22, 2004Assignee: CFPH, LLCInventor: Philip Myron Ginsberg

Patent number: 6750690Abstract: A high-speed, current-driven latch is provided. The latch conducts a current and includes an output, a SET circuit and a RESET circuit. The output is variable between a first state and a second state. The SET circuit conducts the current present in the latch at the first state such that the SET circuit is maintained close to a level required to change the output of the transistor from the first to the second level, and the RESET circuit conducts the current at the second level such that the RESET circuit is close to a level required to change the output of the transistor from the second level to the first level.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2003Date of Patent: June 15, 2004Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventor: Karl Edwards

Patent number: 6724174Abstract: Switching regulator circuits and methods are provided for regulating output voltage that include an adjustable minimum peak inductor current level for Burst Mode in current-mode DC-DC regulators. Minimum peak inductor current level control is achieved during Burst Mode by allowing external control for adjusting the burst threshold level. A single pin can be used to distinguish between forced continuous and Burst Mode as well as set the burst threshold level during Burst Mode, or an alternate method of setting a variable burst threshold level can be implemented in which two pins are used, one for selecting the mode of operation and the other for setting the burst threshold level during Burst Mode. The above principles can be applied to both step-up and step-down regulator circuit configurations, as well as both synchronous switching regulators and non-synchronous switching regulators.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2002Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Linear Technology Corp.Inventors: Joey Martin Esteves, Randy Guy Flatness

Patent number: 6708915Abstract: A winder and system for winding wire onto core supports of dynamo-electric cores with translational, rotational and radial motions with respect to a central longitudinal axis of the dynamo-electric core is provided. The radial motion may preferably be provided by an independent assembly. In one embodiment of the invention, the radial motion may be provided by rotating a cam disk which is movably connected to, and causes radial motion of, a pair of rollers. The pair of rollers are mounted on support arms which are connected to a needle for dispensing the wire such that movement of the pair causes similar movement of the needle. In another embodiment of the invention, an inclined way is coupled to a slide portion of the needle. When the inclined way is moved parallel to the axis, it causes a radial motion of the slide portion.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2003Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Axis U.S.A., Inc.Inventors: Raffaele Becherucci, Gianfranco Stratico, Vieri Ancillotti

Patent number: 6702720Abstract: Systems and methods for promoting ischemic preconditioning in individuals are provided. Ischemic preconditioning is provided by exercise treatments. The exercise treatments consist of breathing exercise regimens with breathing sequences of oxygenating and non-oxygenating phases co-ordinated with stress-relaxation cycles. The breathing sequences are designed to induce periods of ischemia. The individualized exercise treatments can induce optimal number of periods of ischemia separated by suitable intervals to provide effective ischemic preconditioning.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2001Date of Patent: March 9, 2004Assignee: Lifewaves International, Inc.Inventor: Irving I. Dardik

Patent number: 6674274Abstract: Multiple phase switching regulators with stage shedding are provided. Multiple phase switching regulators of the present invention have a plurality of single phase switching regulators coupled in parallel to an output capacitor. The plurality of single phase switching regulators supply current to a load at a regulated voltage. A comparator monitors the load current and causes one or more of the single phase switching regulators to be OFF at a low load current threshold. At least one of the single phase switching regulators that remains ON increases its output current so that the multiple phase switching regulator output current continues to match the load current. The present invention may include a second comparator that causes additional single phase switching regulators to be OFF at a second low load current threshold that is lower than the first low load current threshold.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2001Date of Patent: January 6, 2004Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventors: Stephen W. Hobrecht, Randy G. Flatness

Patent number: 6659398Abstract: The apparatus of the invention enables a two-brake torque limiting device to fix the position of one or more flaps and/or slats on an airplane wing when unplanned or abnormal conditions exist. The two-brake torque limiting device may include a trigger brake, a lock down brake, and a speed-increasing device. The trigger brake may use an electromagnetic brake to apply a braking force to the lock down section. The braking force transferred to the lock down section from the trigger section may be transferred through a speed-increasing device. The speed-increasing device allows for the use of a small and a lightweight electromagnetic brake. The invention also provides a method for reducing asymmetry in the wings of an aircraft using an asymmetry detection device, using a trigger brake, using a speed-increasing gear, and using a lock down brake.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2001Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Smiths Aerospace, Inc.Inventor: Mark R.
