Patent number: 6650174Abstract: Circuitry and methods are provided for reducing rise time associated with signals on an open-drain or open-collector signal line. Signal line voltage is monitored to determine if the signal line is being pulled LOW. If the signal line is not being pulled LOW, as indicated by signal line voltage exceeding a threshold level, additional pullup current is provided. The additional current may be provided gradually in relation to the signal line voltage, or may be provided in full whenever voltage exceeds the threshold. Circuitry may also be provided to monitor voltage slew rate on the signal line, and to enable the additional pullup current only when the slew rate exceeds a positive threshold level.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2001Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventor: David Bundy Bell

Patent number: 6637200Abstract: A hydraulic actuator that is capable of substantial actuation but does not require a conventional pump, uses only deflectable membranes and passive valves, or, at most, a minimum of active valves, and, under certain circumstances, may be free to move when the actuator is de-energized, is provided. The actuator utilizes the deflectable membranes to move fluid throughout the actuator. The movement of the fluid actuates a shaft or other suitable device, as required.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2001Date of Patent: October 28, 2003Assignee: Smiths Industries Aerospace Actuation Systems, Inc.Inventors: Valentin Barba, Khoi T. Patent number: 6622955Abstract: A winder for winding wire onto coil supports of dynamo-electric cores with translational, rotational, and stratification motions with respect to a central longitudinal axis of the dynamo-electric core is provided. The rotational motion may preferably be provided by the rocking motion of a gear sector. The stratification motion may preferably be provided by the implementation of a spiral groove. The spiral groove preferably shares the same longitudinal axis as the winder. The rotation of the spiral groove preferably creates a relative motion between the groove and the needles, thereby producing the radial stratification motion of the needles. Additionally, the winder includes a motor arrangement which is programmable and controllable. The motor arrangement may also provide a dampening effect to limit unwanted stratification motion.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2001Date of Patent: September 23, 2003Assignee: Axis USA, Inc.Inventors: Gianfranco Stratico, Emanuelle Bandinelli

Patent number: 6614313Abstract: A precision oscillator circuit providing a periodic waveform is provided. A periodic waveform is provided by the use of an integrating op-amp circuit in conjunction with a switched capacitor frequency control loop and a user input adapted to be coupled with a frequency-setting resistor. The frequency of the periodic waveform is determined by the values of the switched capacitor and the resistor. The oscillator circuit has an arrangement which minimizes the effect of the op-amp circuit's offset voltage. The user input is kept robust against user-introduced capacitance by the use of controllable current sources and/or controllable voltage sources to bias the op-amp circuit. A linearity correction circuit is also provided to correct for non-ideal op-amp circuits.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2001Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventors: Andrew H. Crofts, Michael A. Kultgen

Patent number: 6570372Abstract: Methods and circuits implementing a constant-current/constant-voltage circuit architecture are provided. The methods and circuits preferably provide a charging system that provides current to a load using a fixed current until the load is charged. When the load is charged, the methods and circuits preferably provide a variable current to the load in order to maintain the voltage level across the load. This variable current varies according to the voltage across the load. In one embodiment of the invention, a constant power current may also be used as one of the load charging currents. The constant power current may act as a limit on the charging circuit's power output.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2002Date of Patent: May 27, 2003Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventors: Trevor W. Patent number: 6535042Abstract: A high-speed, current-driven latch is provided. The latch conducts a current and includes an output, a SET circuit and a RESET circuit. The output is variable between a first state and a second state. The SET circuit conducts the current present in the latch at the first state such that the SET circuit is maintained close to a level required to change the output of the transistor from the first to the second level, and the RESET circuit conducts the current at the second level such that the RESET circuit is close to a level required to change the output of the transistor from the second level to the first level.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2000Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventor: Karl Edwards

Patent number: 6533208Abstract: A winder and system for winding wire onto core supports of dynamo-electric cores with translational, rotational and radial motions with respect to a central longitudinal axis of the dynamo-electric core is provided. The radial motion may preferably be provided by an independent assembly. In one embodiment of the invention, the radial motion may be provided by rotating a cam disk which is movably connected to, and causes radial motion of, a pair of rollers. The pair of rollers are mounted on support arms which are connected to a needle for dispensing the wire such that movement of the pair causes similar movement of The needle. In another embodiment of the invention, an inclined way is coupled to a slide portion of the needle. When the inclined way is moved parallel to the axis, it causes a radial motion of the slide portion.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2000Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Axis U.S.A., Inc.Inventors: Raffaele Becherucci, Gianfranco Stratico, Vieri Ancillotti

Patent number: 6531909Abstract: Techniques and circuits for high speed switching of transistors are provided. These techniques and circuits switch an output device while varying the drive current to the output device in proportion to the output current through the output device. In addition, these techniques and circuits provide a switching circuit with substantially no quiescent currents. This is accomplished by sampling the output current conducted by the output device and using the sample as a signal to drive either the output device fully ON or to switch the output device fully OFF.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1999Date of Patent: March 11, 2003Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventor: Karl Edwards

Patent number: 6459321Abstract: Gate protection clamping circuits and techniques with controlled output discharge current are provided. Circuits and methods according to the invention are implemented to relatively rapidly disengage single or multiple loads from a power supply without creating thermal overload.
