  • Patent number: 4096596
Abstract: A furniture deck edging strip providing for pillow retention, cushioning and wear protection between the wire or other structural elements of a furniture deck, at the edges of the top load surface of the deck, and padding layers applied over the deck in the finishing of the furniture, the edging strip being elongated and of uniform cross-sectional contour, being formed of a flexibly resilient material, and having a pair of laterally spaced apart projecting fins or flaps, one of which forms a re-entrant notch with the body of the strip for interlocking engagement over the edge of the deck to secure the strip to the deck, and the other fin being attachable to the deck by clips or the like, so that the notch is locked in engagement with the deck. The strip may be provided with a tough surface layer to provide good purchase for the clips, and structural strength for the rib forming the notch.

  • Patent number: 4084357
Abstract: A valve cleaning machine consisting of a cabinet in which are mounted a plurality of jet nozzles adapted to eject compressed air jets containing granular abrasive material, each adapted to clean a given peripheral portion of an automotive engine valve. The valves to be cleaned are mounted in a rotating carousel so that each valve is presented sequentially to each of the nozzles, and the valves are rotated in the carousel to insure that the entire periphery of each valve is presented to each nozzle. The nozzles may be operated simultaneously if sufficient compressed air capacity is available, or one at a time in sequence if only a lesser compressed air capacity is available. The polished bearing surfaces of the valve stems are protected from the abrasive air blasts, and provision is made for alternative use of the device for cleaning single hand-held objects when desired.

  • Patent number: 4052138
Abstract: A method of firing coal-powered boilers to produce both heat to operate the boiler at its full rated capacity, and also to produce a usable fuel gas generally equal in heat content to the heat consumed in the boiler to produce steam, said method consisting of burning pulverized coal in the presence of varying proportions of steam and oxygen. The boiler is over-fired with coal, but with an undersupply of oxygen, in order that the total available heat content of the coal is divided between heat released by the incomplete combustion thereof, which may be sufficient to operate the boiler at full steam capacity, and heat content contained in combustible flue gases, which may be utilized for many different purposes.
