  • Patent number: 4664263
Abstract: A tab formed on a length of pressure-sensitive adhesive tape and having a cut in the tab permits tearing of the tab and tape lengthwise to open a hole in a flexible packaging material to expose the contents. The tape is placed over an opening formed in the material and the tearing of the tape tab by separating the two portions on either side of the cut will cause a tearing of the tape longitudinally causing a single tear at the opening to propagate in opposite directions from the opening.

  • Patent number: 4650082
Abstract: The barrier in a closure liner can be formed with a distinctive design or logo when the closure liner is inserted in the cap by placing a male embossing die against the sealing layer of the closure liner with sufficient force to emboss an image in the foil layer. The embossing of indicia into the liner at the time the cap is to be placed on the container provides the manufacturer with his own distinctive logo which cannot be readily duplicated thus making the container closure tamper-resistant.

  • Patent number: 4650537
Abstract: A tape applicator for use in applying lengths of tape transversely at spaced parallel positions to a continuously moving receptor web. The applicator applies the lengths of tape to the moving web from a polygonal vacuum head which is moved into contact with the web at web speed to transfer the tape to the web. The vacuum applicator is rotatable about an axis and supports the length of tape prior to transfer on a surface disposed transversely to the direction of movement of the web.

  • Patent number: 4643093
Abstract: To mount a lithoplate onto a plate cylinder of a conventional web press, the lithoplate is double crimped, a stiffener is fitted snugly between the two crimps, and the stiffener and crimped portion of the lithoplate are inserted into a longitudinal channel in a plate cylinder. The invention permits for the first time precision mounting of a lithoplate which has a stretchable base such as a polyester base. A stretchable lithoplate preferably is mounted over underpacking with which it has a high effective coefficient of friction.
