  • Patent number: 7662196
Abstract: Procedure for the use of glycerine as biomass, for the production of energy by means of a spray gasification process, based on the use of a mixture of oxygen, vapour and atmospheric air as gasifying agents, which are introduced into a Gasification Chamber at temperatures above 900° C., so that the gas produced is transferred to a Reformer wherein, also at temperatures above 900° C., the different partial oxidation/thermal cracking reactions in the presence of metal oxides are completed and, subsequently, hot cycloned to retain ashes greater than 5 microns in size, whereupon the gas is sharply cooled using a basket-type Evaporator.

  • Patent number: 7658566
Abstract: A butterer for dispensing butter to hot corn on the cob. The butterer includes a two part body that is adapted to be disassembled for cleaning and a central channel for receiving butter. The body also removably receives salt and pepper dispensers. The body is ovate in cross section and shaped to conform to the hand of a user. A pusher is positioned over the butter in the channel and allows a user to urge butter through the channel. A lower grill resists direct contact of semisolid butter with the corn, but transfers heat from the corn and allows melted butter to pass to the corn. A stand and storage tray supports the butterer during non use and allows storage with butter therein in a refrigerator.

  • Patent number: 7651502
Abstract: A tool for implantation of a rod into a bone screw implanted in a human spine includes a guide member having a laterally opening channel disposed along an entire length thereof for side loading and receiving an implant fastener. A rod pushing member and a handle with a laterally opening channel are coaxial with the guide member, with the rod pushing member being rotatingly mateable to the guide member and the handle having a spring attachment mechanism for attaching the handle to the guide member. The guide member includes spring tabs for attachment to a bone screw, the tabs biased away from the bone screw. The rod pushing member includes a sleeve that extends substantially about the guide member, pressing the spring tabs toward the bone screw and into apertures on the bone screw arms. The rod pushing member sleeve also operatively functions as a rod pusher that abuts a rod as the sleeve is translated along the guide member and toward the bone screw.

  • Patent number: 7625396
Abstract: A polyaxial bone screw assembly includes a threaded shank body having an upper capture structure, a head and a multi-piece retainer, articulation structure. The geometry of the retainer structure pieces corresponds and cooperates with the external geometry of the capture structure to frictionally envelope the retainer structure between the capture structure and an internal surface defining a cavity of the head. The head has a U-shaped cradle defining a channel for receiving a spinal fixation or stabilization longitudinal connecting member. The head channel communicates with the cavity and further with a restrictive opening that receives retainer pieces and the capture structure into the head but prevents passage of frictionally engaged retainer and capture structures out of the head. The retainer structure includes a substantially spherical surface that mates with the internal surface of the head, providing a ball joint, enabling the head to be disposed at an angle relative to the shank body.

  • Patent number: 7623945
Abstract: A robotic master controller having a series of linking members interconnected by pivots to each other and a hand grip with relative position sensors therein and sensing yaw and pitch of the hand grip due to movement of the user. The final linking member including an arched section that terminates in a pivot for the hand grip that is located within the user's hand during use and has an axis of rotation that generally aligns with a roll axis of rotation of the arm when the user's hand rotates between a palm up configuration to a palm down configuration. The final linking member also includes an arched section that extends over and cradles the outer palm of the hand when the hand is in the palm up configuration. The user reaches around the outside (to the right for a right arm controller) to grasp the hand grip.

  • Patent number: 7621918
Abstract: A spinal implant tool set includes end guide tools having flexible back wall flaps that receive opposite ends of the rod and intermediate guide tools that hold the rod in intermediate locations between the end guide tools. Both the end and intermediate guide tools include an attachment structure for operably connecting the guide tool to a bone screw. A multi-function installation tool and a bone screw driver each mate and cooperate with the guide tools. A method utilizing the tool set allows a surgeon to percutaneously implant the bone screws and the rod in the patient.

  • Patent number: 7574816
Abstract: A drier apparatus for removing water or other liquids from various materials includes a mixer, drying chamber, separator and regenerator and a method for use of the apparatus. The material to be dried is mixed with a heated media to form a mixture which then passes through the chamber. While passing through the chamber, a comparatively cool fluid is passed counter current through the mixture so that the mixture becomes cooler and drier and the fluid becomes hotter and more saturated with moisture. The mixture is then separated into drier material and media. The media is transferred to the regenerator and heated therein by the hot fluid from the chamber and supplemental heat is supplied to bring the media to a preselected temperature for mixing with the incoming material to be dried. In a closed loop embodiment of the apparatus, the fluid is also recycled from the regenerator to the chamber and a chiller is utilized to reduce the temperature of the fluid to a preselected temperature and dew point temperature.

  • Patent number: 7572279
Abstract: A polyaxial bone screw assembly includes a threaded shank body having an upper capture structure, a head and an open, compressible retainer collar. The capture structure and retainer collar are both threaded for rotatable attachment within a cavity of the head. The head has a U-shaped cradle defining a channel for receiving a spinal fixation rod. The head channel communicates with the cavity and further with a restrictive opening that allows for loading the capture structure into the head but prevents passage of the attached retainer collar out of the head. The open retainer collar may be bottom- or top-loaded by compressing open ends of the ring towards each other, the collar springing back into a rounded shape after insertion in the head. The open collar has an external substantially spherical surface that mates with an internal surface of the head, providing a ball joint, enabling the head to be disposed at an angle relative to the shank body.

  • Patent number: 7507343
Abstract: The device of the invention includes the following 5 new elements in each mixer-settler: a) agitators with blunt edged turbines, b) decreasing degree of agitation throughout the series of mixing compartments, c) baffle with a central window in the settler interface, located after the flow buffers, and d) baffle without a window, centered in the settler interface, located after the baffle with a window. These elements allow for an operative method which inhibits secondary dispersion, reducing the formation of micro-droplets, without affecting the mass transfer between the phases. Consequently, this obtains a phase separation process with entrainments so small that it is possible to drastically increase the quality of the product, by obtaining an ultra-pure aqueous extract, simultaneously reducing the settling surface required.

  • Patent number: 7473816
Abstract: A multilayer breathable moisture management and compressive device, having a laminate material that includes a thin, hydrophillic polyurethane foam coated on both surfaces with an adhesive. A stretchable elastomeric polymer layer is bonded to each of the adhesive surfaces. The polymer layers preferably are microfibers having a greater number of filaments on a skin engaging side than on an opposite side thereof. The resulting device draws moisture from the skin whereby moisture generated by the underlying skin is absorbed into the device and is thereafter conveyed into the polyurethane foam and then into the outer polymer layer such that the moisture is permitted to evaporate from the surface of the device. The device may be used as a sleeve for providing compression especially during exercise or may be used as a wound dressing or the like, providing moisture management and/or heat retention under compression.
