  • Patent number: 4882760
Abstract: A system for reproducing sound, particularly musical sound, giving enhanced pleasure to the listener. The system utilizes a pair of low frequency range speakers, a plurality of high frequency range speakers and may employ one or more mid frequency range speakers, all of which speakers are of conventional construction. These speakers are, however, disposed in a novel mechanical arrangement and electrically interconnected in a manner to emanate sound in essentially a non-directional manner. The listener thus perceives the sound to be emanating from the diemensional space surrounding the system, rather than from a single point or plane, and experiences the sound much as if he or she were in the same enclosure with live performers, rather than listening to a recording.

  • Patent number: 4862451
Abstract: In a switching exchange for circuit-switched/synchronous traffic (CS) and packet-switched/asynchronous data packet traffic (PS), transmission lines communicate with FIFO buffers interconnected by a data bus on which information is transferred in periodic frames. CS traffic is collected in FIFO input buffers in minipackets each carrying a local routing address. The last minipacket per frame period is identified by a special end tag. Once per frame a daisy-chain signal propagates through access control lines to sequentially read out from FIFO input buffers all CS minipackets up to the next one having a special end tag, transferring them through the data bus to FIFO output buffers. Thereafter a token access mechanism starts enabling selective PS data packet transfer between FIFO input and output buffers. When a new frame begins, and PS data packet transfer is interrupted for a CS minipacket readout process, and thereafter transfer of the interrupted PS packet is resumed.

  • Patent number: 4858267
Abstract: An apparatus for wet cleaning in particular window panes includes an elongated carrier for a removable, fur-like cleaning body surrounding said carrier and a shaft-like handle being mounted at said carrier rectangularly thereto. The cleaning body has an outer cover with a longitudinal slot by means of which it can be applied to the carrier. This apparatus is superior as compared with the known apparatuses in that a holder is secured to the front end of the handle which has at each of its ends short threaded pins, two elongated arms being screwed onto the threaded pins which forms, together with the holder, the carrier for the cleaning body which is open at both ends. The longitudinal slot in the outer cover of the cleaning body is associated with the holder and comprises a length corresponding to that of the holder together with a threaded pin.

  • Patent number: 4856069
Abstract: A typing station at a remote location having a central processing unit and a terminal is interconnected with an information storage and retrieval system via a single telephone line. A typist at the remote location depresses a foot pedal associated with the central processing unit and controls shared transmission of audio messages and digital data between the typing station and the information storage and retrieval system. When the foot pedal is depressed, audio information is transmitted from the information storage and retrieval system at a central location to the typing station at the remote location. When the foot pedal is released, digital data defining previously transcribed audio information which is stored in the central processing unit is transmitted to the information storage and retrieval system via the single telephone line.

  • Patent number: 4848561
Abstract: A continuous line of laterally moving cigarettes is provided by extracting a row of cigarettes from an 80-column hopper 10, supporting the row by suction on the underside of a fluted beam 18 mounted on a pair of cranks 20, and cyclically rotating the cranks to bring the speed of the beam up to that of a fluted conveyor 32, where the row is deposited at the end of a previously transferred row. From the continuous line of cigarettes shorter rows are subsequently removed by known suction drums to form a succession of groups ready for packing on a continuous packer.

  • Patent number: 4847938
Abstract: A cleaning apparatus, particularly for cleaning window panes includes a shaft-like hollow handle and a replaceable approximately strip-shaped cleaning tool mounted between two clamping jaws which are adjustable relative to one another. One of the clamping jaws has an extension by with which it is connected to the handle by means of a hinged bolt. This cleaning apparatus is superior as compared with usual apparatuses in that the extension of the one clamping jaw is pivotably connected to an elongation of the handle and comprises at its broad side facing away from the elongation an arcuately extending, relatively coarse toothing which is in cooperation in a manner known per se with a spring-loaded stop lever guided in the handle and formed as a slide.

  • Patent number: 4847937
Abstract: In the case of hair brushes the arcuately shaped bristle members of which are studded with bristles, mounted in the side walls of a housing being U-shaped in cross section, are arranged in a plurality adjacently and with a distance from one another and are pivotable by means of a slide guided in the housing below these bristle members from a position of non-use into a position of use, this pivoting into the position of use and back into the position of non-use is complicated and time-consuming.This disadvantage is eliminated in that the slide has at its longitudinal edges edge cutouts facing one another, the bristle members resting between these edge cutouts on the slide in such a manner so as to be secured against unintended pivot movement. The slide can be approached with its edge cutouts to the ends of the bristle members by sliding movement in such a manner that the bristle members, by a sliding pressure by hand on the bristles, obliquely engage in the edge cutouts in the position of non-use.

  • Patent number: 4834116
Abstract: Groups of cigarettes are formed by axially extracting cigarettes from the bases of two hoppers (10, 12), each having vertical columns (14, 20) spaced apart by a cigarette diameter. The columns of the hoppers are staggered so that a cigarette extracted from the rear hopper (12) enters the gap between adjacent cigarettes of the front hopper (10, FIG. 3). The base plate (22) of the front hopper is initially higher than the base plate (18) of the rear hopper to allow clearance during intercalation of the cigarettes.

  • Patent number: 4828491
Abstract: A unitary preassembled disposable intra-oral rubber dam device comprises an annular resilient frame member such as a resilient plastic cord frame, and an elastic latex membrane, the perimeter of the membrane being secured to the frame member such that the membrane is maintained in substantially the same plane as the frame member. The annular frame member, having a predetermined configuration, has a memory characteristic such that when pressure applied to distort the frame member is relaxed the frame member returns to substantially its predetermined configuration.

  • Patent number: 4804312
Abstract: This arrangement concerns a flow guide surface for ship propellers, at least for twin propellers, the propellers being mounted by means of propeller brackets. It is provided for to arrange, at least in the region between the arms of the propeller brackets, a sectioned arcuate guide surface. This guide surface possesses a mean camber line converging backwardly towards the propeller shaft and the outlet edge has a distance to the propeller shaft amounting to between 70 and 130% of the propeller radius. This arcuate section of the guide surface is connected, on the side facing the ship's hull, to an approximately horizontal radial part.

  • Patent number: 4785928
Abstract: A mass flow of cigarettes is reduced in width as it passes downwardly through chutes into a passage in which the cigarettes are formed as a stream two rows deep. The cigarettes are fed onto a fluted drum and accelerated to form gaps between them, the cigarettes in one row being held by suction in the flutes and those in the other row resting on top of them and being kept in place by suction. From the fluted drum the cigarettes are transferred to a further fluted drum as a single row, by being fed between a stripper and a fixed plate which are positioned so that only one cigarette, from each row alternately, can pass into a flute on the further drum. The cigarettes may then be collated into groups ready for packing.
